I'd guess that average ticket price is about $35, parking is another $25-30, so I figured split that for a couple. Now you're at around $50 and you haven't bought beer yet. $70-80 isn't out of reach. Note I don't know the real number. I'm just pulling it outta my butt based on my experience. But I've spent $80 at a game after that second beer and a $7 bag o' peanuts around the 5th inning, a program and a hat, or some such thing.. You could certainly get out for a lot less. Sit in the bleachers and take the shuttle saves a ton o' money.

Simple answer is to pay the bills. I believe you mean ... to make more profit.Yes. That said, players wouldn't be all that crazy about shorter season either as would likely cause salaries to go down.

We focused on loss of revenue of fannies and beer in seats at the ballpark. We did not factor in 60 or 70 commercials lost per game x 18 games. Taken together, that would definitely reduce salaries.

Okay...Found a site that broke it down. Average revenue per game in MLB = $3.9 million.(2021 numbers), so we are talking a roughly $70 million hit per team in the shorter schedule we are talking about.
IMO that is substantial.

It would be about half of that amount since half the games would be road games for each team. Still substantial, though and having the salaries reduced accordingly would be a non-starter for the MLBPA.

My question was somewhat rhetorical as I know money is the driver of all decisions these days. My point is, if cutting the season back is meant to solve a problem, then actually make a meaningful cut. Cutting 8 games does nothing, IMO. If you buy into a first round bye for the top two, you are no worse off. Which I'll admit, today, is too late in the season, absent a dedicated WS site. Like the LLWS.thing is, you could argue that getting a week off after the regular season ends is not always a good thing, too. baseball players, more than any other pro sport, are creatures of daily habits in terms of playing.

Okay...now that I have gotten over the tragedy of the Dodger collapse, I have actually started enjoying the post-season and have changed my opinion.
I think it is actually really good for baseball that the Phillies are in the WS. It shows every +/- .500 team that they too have a shot at the WS even if they are 19 games behind the division leader.
That increases interest and hope for your team in the dog days that there is still something to cheer about.

Weekend games in the 4th week of OCT are going to get a lot of competition for eyeballs from CFB and NFL. That MBA bean-counter better have his resume up to date.

Some of this can probably be explained within the CBA. Or maybe with the TV contracts. That said, 4 days between games seems to be a lot of bullshit imo.
