On this stop and the way the cops handled the guns. Not trying to be an ass just want your professional opinion At 2:51, you cannot enter private property to take anything out of it without a warrant, permission from the owner, or probable cause. So we have a clear violation of civil rights, here. The correct procedure is to have him identify himself and produce all the applicable permits for his weapons, while keeping him and all the officers' hands-off of them. If you need another officer to keep an eye on the car, well, take the time to get another officer. This is NOT a hot shooting scene in progress. No need to rush.
3:15 Officer Stallman most likely violates departmental policy by not clearing the Taurus, or immediately handing it to someone who is more competent than she to clear the gun and make it safe. If there was no one else there smarter than her, she should have placed it on the floor of an open unit trunk, so it could not fall to the pavement and create an AD.
4:16 The Sergeant muzzle sweeps the officer with an AR pistol that HE obviously does not know how to operate, either.
It looks to me like 1) These officers are anti-gunners who are looking for ANYTHING to nail the citizen with. 2) They need retraining on search and seizure, AND 3) They all need to be taught how to safely handle and clear any firearm they may commonly come into contact with. That includes the bevy of semiauto pistols out there, most of which operate the same way, AR types (ditto) and AK's (ditto again). I think the biggest challenge to their lack of gun knowledge would be a single action revolver. But maybe Alec Baldwin could explain to them how to do it.
Just because someone is a cop, don't expect him to understand guns. A lot of cops are "gun people" and a lot of them are incompetents who MIGHT only know their duty gun, and only because they are required to carry it.
This citizen could probably win a nice lawsuit if he wanted to push the issue.

A large percentage of trainees go into LE having never touched a gun in their life. So there is that.

A large percentage of trainees go into LE having never touched a gun in their life. So there is that. That's also a problem with the current military.
The generals and admirals only care about making sure that homos are not molested by other troops. They also don't care that lowering the fitness standards for recruits leads to the pussification of our forces.
Overall, we wouldn't stand much of a chance going hand to hand with Russian or Chinese troops. They train HARD, and if someone dies in training, well, it happens. There is no big inquiry into trying to ruin a soldier's career for a training accident. Shit happens in real life.

Thank you. I appreciate it Because the cops are inept, that doesn't make them bad.
I did more research and it is illegal in Maryland to carry a firearm in the passenger compartment of a motor vehicle (STUPID LAW). That being said, if the officer observed a firearm from outside the vehicle, he DID have the right to reach into the car and secure it. Probable cause of an existing crime had been established. I was wrong there.
From a legal standpoint, these officers did nothing wrong, and they seemed to be pretty relaxed in dealing with the perpetrator, too.
