dear lord, please strengthen those treating this young man tonight to help him survive. such a sad and scary situation. from what i've been reading, and nothing is confirmed, but it looks like his vitals are back to normal. hope that news continues to trend in a positive way. really impressed with the players, coaches and fans last night. the league will take some backlash for whoever decided to try to continue the game after a 5 minute warm up but they eventually made the right call.

Very shocking, sad situation.
The critical issue is whether they were able to oxygenate his brain in time to prevent permanent neuronal damage.
Apparently, he had a trauma-induced arrhythmia, but I still haven't heard any news about whether it may have been a pericardial bleed/tamponade.
Is American football too violent?
I wonder.

The league has come a long way regarding player safety and their well-being in general. I'm not sure that would have happened that way even a decade ago.

Good news.
Damar Hamlin allegedly woke up and wrote, "Did we win?" today.

Good news. Damar Hamlin allegedly woke up and wrote, "Did we win?" today. more encouraging news... overnight hamlin had his breathing tube removed, is breathing on his own, able to talk w/his family and medical staff, and facetimed w/his team this morning. how 'bout that? one other tidbit... the bills' assistant trainer who almost immediately was administering cpr on the field monday night, danny kellington, is a tosu grad. he got his masters here in '02, and was a grad assistant trainer w/the field hockey and women's lacrosse teams before moving on to syracuse and later buffalo.

He saved Hamlin's life. I did a lot of CPR back in the day, (med school, internship, residency) but never on anyone who was younger than 50-60. Hamlin's youth and fitness probably contributed to his remarkable survival.
