Just saw on MLB Net that Tim McCarver passed away.  Not on  the news/google yet.

yeah he was a talker, but that imho that was consistent w/his personality as a man and a ballplayer, and I liked that about him. for a kid who from age 8 on would fall asleep in the summer time w/a 9 volt transistor radio stuffed inside a toy tiger tuning in any am station that had a ballgame on, I can remember many a night listening to jack buck and harry carry (and later mike shannon) on kmox catching the final few innings of cardinals games since they started an hour or two later than the reds/tribe did here, hearing mccarver's name constantly.

this aging thing sucks.

The wonderment of radio skip. I remember listening once, driving to KC listening to a radio broadcast of a baseball game that originated from Curacao.

A bit before your time but not everyone had the same rules limiting station power. In Mexico, on the border w the USA, they had stations w 250,00 watts. Five times the legal USA limit. Birds died if they flew too close. Became the home of Wolfman Jack for a bit. You could listen to him on xerf am from coast to coast in the States. Sidebar: WMJ based part of his act on Cleveland’s Moon Dog, Alan Freed who used the same howl back in the early 60s.
