This is the sad time of year when a lot of young men see their dreams of making it in the NFL shattered.

TCU's tough young QB, Max Duggan, got cut by the Chargers yesterday.

His scrambling ability in college, obviously, didn't translate into NFL success.

And only about 6-8 serious scrambling threats out of 32 teams.

Not counting Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, especially later in their storied careers.

But, on the subject of broken dreams, Denver acquired a place kicker named Maher this year, who was just waived.

He's the guy who missed all of those extra points in a Dallas playoff game last year.

I kept wondering why the Broncos picked up a Maher, and released Brandon McManus-- a real head scratcher.
