Cause it's their 1st year at Div 1-A. They just made the jump

it's actually year 2 for jmu, but the ncaa requires a 2 year transition period before bowl qualification, and jmu agreed w/the league to a 2 year delay before being able to play in the sun belt ccg.

Any screwup is an automatic DQ for the game.

my understanding on the temporary bowl ban is to make sure programs have the necessary infrastructure needed to remain a fbs program, deterring fcs schools from jumping up only to drop back to fcs. jmu can do a bowl this yr if there aren’t enough 6-6 or better schools to fill out all the openings. I’m guessing the ‘can’t win the sun belt’ deal was related to that thinking.
