what's everyone's opinion on the tush push/brotherly shove that the eagles have perfected? people either love or hate it.
watching the eagles game last nite, couldn't help laugh that miami's headcoach mike mcdaniels gets lauded for being this genius with this high IQ but the eagles won b/c they simply are unstoppable at pushing the qb from behind and getting 2-3 yards everytime.

Re the push, which I thought was illegal prior to 2005 when the league removed the language in the rule book that prohibited pushing offensive players, actually if the zebras called the play accurately........ As soon as forward motion is stopped and before the "push", the play could be called over.
Although it's clear what the Eagles will do, they don't have to. The D still has to cover the field. I think they sooner rather than later make a rules adjustment.
IAC, once a QB gets kneecapped or has his knee rolled on, that play will lose influence as an option.
What might be interesting is mandate a team to pre commit to the play and both the O & D substitute accordingly. And you'd have Rugby scrums, which generally are pretty even.
Rules change, sometimes at the whim of those who make the rules. The interlocking flying wedge wasn't always illegal.
Bigger issue for me is, and they need to start calling it consistently, involve the offensive tackles "lining up in the backfield".

It also helps to have a qb who squats 600lbs

One of the more famous Ice Bowl pics from GB V Dallas was Chuck Mercein supposedly calling a TD as Bart Starr did the QB sneak. He wasn't. He didn't want to get called for assisting and wanted the Zebras to see his hands.

I remember watching the game as a very young boy... my strongest memories were the reax from my grandfather when 1. dan reeves hit lance rentzel on the option pass td (he wasn't a fan of either team but he hooped and hollered about how great a call that was) and 2. when the packer receiver (boyd dowler?) whiplashed his head onto the ice rink of a field. papaw was afraid he would never recover from that.

Footnote of sorts.
Eight Packers and four Cowboys who took the field that day would be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, along w both coaches.
The day before the game, both teams practiced on the field, working up a good sweat. Temp? 30 deg ABOVE zero, w zero wind. Weather reporting wasn't then what it is today. NOONE considered an artic blast coming in from the North. When they woke up it was a surprising 20 deg BELOW zero. The GB players slept at home the night before. And some had parked their cars outside. Off course their vehicles wouldn't start.
And a few more.

Going to a GB game was a treat for those who didn't have season tickets. I guess I had been to one reg season games from '60 to '64 before college. I had been to the Clev GB Champ game a cpl of years before. I was home from school and Pops gets a call that early morning from a guy he worked with asking if he wanted to buy a cpl of seats for the game. In Milw, it was -16 F w a -38 F windchill. He passed and crawled back into a warm bed. I didn't know that happened for another 20 yrs.
