NBC edits CJ Stroud's religious reference out of interviewwww.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/nbc-edits-cj-stroud-s-religious-reference-out-of-interview/ar-AA1nbLRP?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=DCTS&cvid=bddd0357e6924cf882e7c0a2800b8122&ei=69
January 18, 2024
Completing 16 of 21 pass attempts for 274 yards and three touchdowns, C.J. Stroud continued his star-making rookie season in the Houston Texans’ 45-14 victory over the Cleveland Browns in the AFC Wild Card round on Saturday.
So it’s no surprise that NBC’s Kathryn Tappen grabbed Stroud for a postgame interview, asking the Ohio State product what the Texans’ Wild Card win meant to him.
“First of all, I just want to give all glory and praise to my lord and savior, Jesus Christ,” Stroud said. “I mean, it’s been amazing being in this city for as short as I’ve been but the love that I’ve got. I’ve really just been doing it for Houston, man. The people back home, I’m blessed enough to be in the position that I’m in and blessed enough to be playing at a high level right now. We gotta just keep it going, but I’m super blessed.”
Pretty standard stuff.
Tappen’s interview with Stroud, however, soon become an unlikely source of controversy. While the interview aired in its entirety on NBC, a clip of it that was posted to NBC’s Sunday Night in America X (formerly Twitter) account edited the rookie quarterback’s answer down, removing the religious references at the start of his answer.
As people picked up on the discrepancy between Stroud’s actual interview and the clip that was posted to social media, many were quick to criticize NBC for what they viewed as a form of religious censorship.
It’s unclear why NBC made the decision to edit Stroud’s answer. Giving the network the benefit of the doubt, it’s possible it wanted to share just a short clip of the interview on social media and opted to go with the more football-relevant portion of his answer.
Still, NBC should have known better than to remove something as sensitive as religion out of Stroud’s answer, especially without noting that the clip had been condensed. While it’s plausible that the network’s social media team only edited Stroud’s answer due to length and not its content, it opened itself up to unnecessary criticism, especially from those assuming the worst.

Do you think Stroud's god would approve of what you post here? Walter, The issue here, for me, is that this kind of mass media censorship isn't about the separation of church and state-- which I support. This is about Anti-Christianity-- a private media corporation (NBC) deliberately censoring an athlete's profession of faith in Christianity. Why? It's similar to the way the NFL and the media censored Tim Tebow's public expressions of his Christian faith-- "Tebowing." Censoring Tebow was, frankly, anti-Christian, IMO -- but was also about money, and not wanting to offend anti-Christian NFL fans. Fans here in Denver were divided in response to "Tebowing." I listened to a lot of comments-- pro and con -- about Tebowing. And, incidentally, I disagreed with the NBA (and the Denver Nuggets) censoring of Muslim Mahmoud Abdul Rauf during the Bush-Cheney "War on Terror."

And, incidentally, I disagreed with the NBA (and the Denver Nuggets) censoring of Muslim Mahmoud Abdul Rauf during the Bush-Cheney "War on Terror." Addendum: The American tradition of "religious tolerance"-- which originated with Roger Williams in Rhode Island in the 17th century-- wasn't about censoring any expressions of religious belief in public (non-governmental) contexts. It was about tolerating different religious beliefs-- Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and various Christian denominations. But, in modern times, some people in the U.S. seem to think it should be acceptable to censor any public expressions of religious faith. Personally, I don't view a lot of nominal "Christianity" in modern America as truly Christian-- e.g., racist, gun-toting MAGA Evangelicalism-- but even nutty MAGAts should have a right to practice and express their beliefs in non-governmental contexts. The exception should be hate speech-- based on pseudo-Christianity, Islam, etc. In Abdul Rauf's case, he was merely peacefully protesting against the bogus Bush-Cheney War on Islam.

walter makes up his own god in walter's image so quite naturally he thinks everyone makes up their own individual gods and the Bible is all a bunch of fairy tales. He might believe he's offending me (he's not) when he blasphemes and curses God. He only hurts himself when he spews those wicked words. walter is a danger to himself.

Neither were Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. Agnostics and atheists are not inherently unethical-- e.g., Lao Tsu, Buddha, Camus, or ancient Stoical philosophers like Epictetus, Seneca, and Marcus Aurelius. A person can be a rational, ethical atheist. Conversely, many nominal "Christians" may be unethical scoundrels-- e.g., those who believed slavery was acceptable, and those who persecute and oppress the poor and the homeless.

One does not need to be a "godly man" to recognize Fred's unending stream of hate speech against anything he disagrees about. And if you think his are somehow "godly comments", then perhaps you should reconsider the nature of your faith.

It is easy to point fingers. If it was purposely done then I agree with you about censorship. If it saved time allowing them to run another commercial, not so much.
