They could convict a lot of parents using similar criteria to those in the Crumbley case.

A sane higher court will most likely reverse the verdict on appeal.

A sane higher court will most likely reverse the verdict on appeal. The details in this case seem to fully support the jury's verdict. The same thing is true in the case of the young man who murdered people at the LGBT bar in Colorado Springs. That guy told told his mother that he wanted to be a mass shooter. She not only took him to gun ranges, she bought him body armor for Christmas!

I agree that the woman is a complete idiot, unsuited to ever oversee any progeny, but I have a problem with putting her in jail because her kid is a space case.
While I get the idea, something is wrong about it.
I agree with Mutt. This gets overturned.

So, naturally, the parents bought him a gun.

I think the woman loses bigtime in civil court, (not that she's got anything much to lose) but I just can't see the criminal aspect of it.

Of course, all that said, we weren't in the court, so we sorta have to add a caveat. For all I know, there could have been evidence that the kid said, "Mom, I'd really like to shoot up the school", and mom responded, "That's nice dear, let's go buy you a gun.". I am presuming that didn't happen.

So if your teen takes the family car out one night and kills someone in a wreck, should the parents be charged with manslaughter? It depends on what role the parents played in facilitating or trying to prevent the impending accident. If they gave the kid a bottle of Jack Daniels and the car keys and said, "Go for a joy ride!" I would think they might share culpability. Or, if the kid told them he wanted to kill someone with the car, and they gave him the keys, they would be complicit, IMO.

It would depend on the circumstances of how the teen 'takes the family car out', would it not? Hence the 'what ifs'.

In the Michigan case, the parents, apparently knew the kid was hearing voices and thinking about shooting people, and they gave him a gun. In the Colorado Springs case, mom knew the kid wanted to be a mass shooter and she took him to the gun range and bought him some body armor for Christmas.

You and your Leftist sister The FDFD are both too cowardly do answer.
