      Secondly, defense is half of the real game.

      The NBA All Star Game is all about individual show-boating-- with no defense.

It was a real game back in the day….60’s, for example. Directly led to NBA’s first national TV contract. Look up the 1964 All Star game story.

It didn’t become a marketing event until the 80’s. That mindset took off after the ‘87 Slam Dunk in Chicago. And it’s steadily become more flash than substance since then.

I think, for a good bit of time, the event has been/is for the international TV market. MAybe w a focus on China and India.

It’s a different game….lot more shooters than basketball players these days. But, that’s what sells and brings in viewers. The 3-point shot has really changed the game. The analytics say shoot as many 3’s as you can.
