When I was growing up in Denver back in the 60s, many of us learned Spanish, as a second language, in the Denver Public Schools, beginning in the 5th grade. I took Spanish as an elective in junior high and high school, and even studied Spanish one summer in Saltillo, Mexico when I was 15. It was, ultimately, more useful than my trigonometry, analytic geometry, and calculus classes in high school. I even worked one afternoon a week at a psychiatric clinic for Spanish-speaking immigrants for a few years in the 90s, and I also had Spanish-speaking patients in my private practice. (I wasn't fluent enough to do psychotherapy, but I was able to do medication management in Spanish.) Here's a useful map for the MAGAts.

Is Spanish the oldest non-native language spoken in the Geographic USA? Spanish certainly preceded English. Some argue the language of the Vikings, Old Norse preceded Spanish. I'll, however, suggest the language of King Solomon, ancient Hebrew, is the oldest.

Isn't that a Mormon teaching -- i.e., that one of the Twelve Tribes of Israel somehow migrated to North America in ancient times?

Isn't that a Mormon teaching -- i.e., that one of the Twelve Tribes of Israel somehow migrated to North America in ancient times? My interest in the whole Phoenician/Solomon era world travel is passive at best. I find it interesting, however. But my comments were tongue in cheek, re your thread. The Phoenicians had the navigation awareness and the physical capability to travel 100 miles/day via the seas. Greek theologians have noted that. For me, the bigger issue in covering the Atlantic, in their 100 ft crafts, was food and water. Though, unlike Columbus who was trapped in the Sargasso Sea for 21 days, Solomon/The Phoenicians would have had oars, along w a sail.
The Nords kept close to the shore and hopped along. Going around Africa, as the Phoenicians were said to have done, again, permits them to hop along, replenishing. But the Atlantic is a long stretch of nothing but ocean.
The returning Mormons, from the Mex-Amer War, were said to be complicit in creating the tablet in NM, allegedly left by Solomon's inter-continent travelers. But who created their remnants in the S America?
The Solomon of old would have had, knowledge, raw materials and money to be a world traveler. And they all didn't think the world was flat.
IAC, it's all interesting, to me, that adventurers could have predated Columbus by a thousand years or more.
