After Yamamoto got rocked today, they may need her.
Also, this Ohtani story is about to get crazy. I don't see any possible way he wasn't involved in the actual gambling when the money was sent from his bank account directly to the bookie. Not his brightest move.
Michael Jordan all over again???

Haven't been paying attention to this. I guess I'll have to. Yamamoto got rocked in spring training as well, after which the Dodgers said, "We have some things we need to work on...". Unofficially, it was said to be pitch-tipping in his mechanics.

Ohtani update: The story now is Ohtani was helping his friend out of a jam and inadvertantly violated federal law. When that was realized, the story about theft of the money was floated. That is in the process of getting eviscerated by investigative reporting. My guess: He is charged with a crime. Unless there is mandatory jail time for paying an illegal bookie, this is all going to end up as a hefty fine and a lesson about American gambling laws learned.

Yes, that is one of the two different stories he has told. His first one was pretty detailed and directly implicated Ohtani in a federal crime. This story was corroborated by an unnamed spokeman for Ohtani as well. Not surprisingly, Mizuhara quickly changed his story and said Ohtani knew nothing of the gambling debts. That's when Ohtani's camp came up with the theft story and MLB essentially, "ok, sounds good" and did nothing. Besides the fact that Mizuhara's resume appears to be completely made up, he is set to be the fall guy for baseball's biggest star and MLB can't run from the story fast enough. After being pressured by the media for days for answers, they finally said they would start their own investigation on Friday. They, and the Dodgers, knew about the illegal wire transfers on Monday when ESPN reached out to Ohtani's agent. Why it took them nearly four days to act is another story, I guess. Regardless of which of the stories is true, if Ohtani's bank account was actually tied to an illegal bookie, the FBI and the IRS will surely find out whether Shohei was involved or not. What happens then depends on how much money and power MLB has to keep the story quiet.
