It was the big Caitlin Clark/Angel Reese controversy that got the big draw for college women's basketball, carrying over from 2023. EVERYONE wanted to see a rematch. At least I THINK they were all real women, although neither Reese nor Clark look very feminine. In actuality, the two girls respect each other, but playing up their gamesmanship added to the drama.
I wouldn't call getting big money from the WNBA "retiring." I don't think they have farm teams, although I might be wrong.
But I have to agree partially. Nobody, including myself, gives a shit about the WNBA --- or the NBA. Never watched one of their games in my life. If I want to watch blacks jump up and down, scream and act like fools, I'll go to one their BLM rallies. Nope, I'm not making it up. www.statista.com/statistics/1375205/wnba-players-ethnicity/
"Published by Statista Research Department, Oct 9, 2023 The National Basketball Association has one of the highest percentages of African American players from the big four professional sports leagues in North America. In 2023, approximately 70.4 percent of NBA players were African American. Meanwhile, ethnically white players constituted a 17.5 percent share of all NBA players that year. After the WNBA and NBA, the National Football League had the largest share of African Americans in a professional sports league in North America. "

Time will tell. I am from Iowa, so Clarkmania is rampant here. I returned this week from my biannual golf outing with my brothers which was held this week at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. On the day the women's draft was held we went to a slightly upscale sports bar to witness the WNBA draft for this year. The bar was full, and everyone was going nuts about Caitlin Clark except one young guy who my younger brother put in place rather quickly. It was interesting to see how much interest Clark has generated in a different state. I think it is safe to say she can take credit for the sold-out arenas in every city she played in this past season. People drove or flew from miles and miles to watch her play. I personally had the pleasure of watching her in person a few times at Carver Hawkeye this past season and I think I can lay claim to witnessing some type of history. According to the news her Indiana jersey has already sold out, there is signage everywhere in Indy so she has definitely created an interest that was not there before. Personally, the only WNBA I have every watched was a minute or two as I was channel surfing. I will watch her this year and make my decision as to whether I enjoy watching her in the pro-game as much as I enjoyed her collegiate game. I never watch an NBA game anymore as I think it has become a joke. Last time I watched the NBA was during MJ's reign and the Bird-Johnson era. So, we will see what happens in the future, if Clark generates as much interest in the pros as she did at Iowa and that interest transcends to the rest of the league it would be great for women's BB. That IMO is a pretty steep hill to climb and for now I guess I will just take a wait and see attitude.

Hope she’s up to the task at hand, but she’s gonna have some rough moments ahead. And, unlike other rookies, every mistake will be magnified. I wish her the best as she seems like a great kid.

Let me know what happens. I won't waste a single minute watching WNBA. LSU has had 8 first round picks in the WNBA, and I can only name two of them.
Hell, I can't name many LSU players who played in the NBA. Bob Pettit, Pete Maravich, Chris Jackson (changed his name to some muslim bullshit), Shaq, and ........... well, who watches NBA anyway?

We loved it and will absolutely be making a return trip.
