As a student at Kent State in the late 1980's___a local pub had .25 cent beer night__It was a mess at the end of the night with cops being called. That was the last and only time they held that promotion too. There was another promotion that didnt work for the Canton Indians AA team in the early 1990's. A mini-bat was given to the first 1000 fans....lol

Disco Demolition night is another one. What could possibly go wrong? 😂 Bill Veeck might have been BB most interesting character. In the days before the internet when you could get old books for cheap at a local used book store, Veeck As In Wreck, about Veeck and a Hustler's Handbook by Veeck, would have been worthy and cheap entertainment.

He was quite the entertainer. The powers that be in baseball hated him with a passion….they never forgave him for sending a midget up to the plate. 😂 He used to hold court at Miller’s Pub in downtown Chicago. Never got to know him during my baseball days, but did get to know his son, Mike, who is also a solid guy. Some may already know this, but Bill Veeck is the guy who planted the ivy on the walls at Wrigley Field.

I've told the story here before but my Uncle had a minor league offer w the Indians, signed by Veeck, which my cousins still have. Played a bit, injured his shoulder and moved on w life. He loved BB but never talking about his time in it or his time in the S Pacific w the Navy during wwII. His best memory, according to my aunt, was when Clev played an exhibition V minor league prospects and he drove a gapper against Bob Feller, which I never knew until after he passed far too soon.

Cool story to have in your back pocket when watching a game__Veeck was the team owner of Cleveland's last world series title in 1948

FWIW, your uncle is lucky he didn’t face Feller again…likely would’ve drilled him. 😂 In his later years Feller was, shall we say, a bit irascible. Not a fun guy to be around, even the old timers shied away from him.

Which is why the other owners despised him. 😂 Sadly, I am only half kidding.
