My Dad was shipping out to the Pacific Theater from Treasure Island around that time, maybe a little before June 6th. He was still 17 years old.

My Dad was in the air on June 5th, forming up with the other C-47's to drop paratroopers a bit later on.
My mother's brother was also in the air, as a paratrooper who dropped into Normandy. He was shot in the leg on June 6, and his war was over.

They already knew each other, but they couldn't find each other on the tarmac before they launched.
