University Of Florida Fraternity Members Allegedly Spit At Wounded Military Veterans GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The University of Florida is investigating allegations that members of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity spat at a group of disabled military veterans last weekend at a resort in Panama City Beach. In an email to Linda Cope, the founder of the Warrior Beach Retreat at Laketown Wharf Resort, University of Florida President Kent Fuchs called the behavior as unacceptable and promised a full investigation. The incidents were reported to Fuchs by Cope and others who witnessed the fraternity members spitting at the veterans and stealing their flags. Fuchs said the school is making every effort to learn what happened and take appropriate action. The Gainesville Sun ( bit.ly/1Hzr5jz ) reports the fraternity is currently on conduct probation for a hazing incident in the fall semester. The fraternity has suspended operations and is cooperating with the investigation. "Being on probation means the organization faces increased consequences if they are found to have violated the probation requirements," university spokeswoman Janine Sikes said. The Sun reports that Zeta Beta Tau members from the University of Florida and Emory University in Georgia were attending their spring formals at the resort last weekend. Emory officials said they are investigating but so far there's no evidence to implicate their students in the incident. About 60 veterans who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan were also attending a retreat which has been held twice a year for the last six years at the resort. Cope started the event in honor of her son Joshua, who lost both legs in Baghdad in 2006 when a roadside bomb exploded under his Humvee. One letter to Fuchs described students spitting on veterans, throwing beer bottles over a balcony and ripping flags off their cars. Cope said she believes the students knew they were insulting veterans because the guests were wearing caps and T-shirts indicating they are veterans. "They knew who they were and they were just getting a kick out of it," she said. "It is heartbreaking for a mom with a son who sacrificed so much for their freedom." Cope said hotel security got the situation under control and the fraternity members were evicted the next morning. "They apologized to me in person, but only because they got caught," she said.Zeta Beta Tau's Florida chapter has 128 active members. Chapter president Tyler Drescher told the newspaper they had no comment. The fraternity sent a letter of apology to Cope. She said she looks forward to the outcome of the investigations.

This is what happens to students and graduates to 5 to 10 years out from graduation when we let the progressive muck ruin our schools and universities. With the progressive agenda accepted as fact, things will only get worse. Sorry to see this. Hopefully, the frat will get axed from UF instead of just suspended. However, that will do nothing to stop the progressive left wing trash out there.

Obviously, it's true. Our universities are ruined by the progressive left wing lunatics that teach their students intolerance for anything except their progressive left wing agenda. It's easy to blanket stereotype our universities when it's a fact. Nitro shouldn't have brought the article to the Florida team board for discussion, but once here, it's open season.

I didn't bring politics into it. Frat boys and football go hand and hand IMO
and for the record...I agree that Liberals/ progressives are taking over the mindsets of our young in school today with ONLY their opinions, thoughts and views, that's why mine go to private school where even there the "liberal" influence is there.

If Nitro would do the honor of deleting the misplaced post and follow up posts, I'm sure myself and Mark will delete our posts as well. 2. The offending post should be posted in the political threads as it has zero to do with Florida football. A frat at UF that is suspended for hazing and does stupid things that only progressive leftist lunatics would do on spring break on Panama City Beach has more in common with the public rape that was ignored by black partiers from Troy University on the same beach. I think all of the rapists have been arrested now. 3. Mark, you dumb stupid f-word, it's those with progressive liberal leftist leanings that teach the intolerance. I'm all for a well rounded education, but as I pointed out above and you conveniently completely ignored because it's your dumb stupid f-ing way only, the students at the universities are being fed an intolerant liberal progressive agenda. They aren't taught the two way street. Consider your dumb stupid f-ing self reminded who teaches intolerance at the universities. 4. Those who serve our country and provide our freedoms should be thanked, not harassed. It's largely the intolerant progressive liberals who have a problem with this simple concept.

That's what campuses should be, but in fact, today's campuses are so full of speech codes, free speech zones and absurdly general harassment policies that differing opinions are muted rather than encouraged. Here is a nice synopsis of the state of Free Speech on College Campuses. www.thefire.org/speech-codes-alive-and-well-10-years-later/This is an interesting topic. If you want to discuss it more we should start another thread.

Been working on the new 400 UF single student housing building, and we have to drive right by the frats on the way to the contracter parking area. They have had a UF police cruiser parked out side the ZBT house constantly since this went down. Have been wondering if its to keep ZBT in line , or gaurd them from some pissed off Recon vets lol.

if that's the way you want me to treat you on here, et, fine. Fine. do you not get that you're being just as disrespectful to me here as those kids were to the vets? are your blinders and perspective actually that narrow? so, you think the stupid, inane actions (and they were stupid and inane) of some drunk uf frat boys is a sign that progressives have taken over america's university system. seriously? that's your leap to judgement? do you think liberals make up the entire population of this particular zbt frat house? even a majority? significant minority? i don't know if you were ever involved in the greek system on any campus, or for that matter have set foot on a campus, let alone a classroom or lab, on any college campus other than a medical center for your cancer treatments. but it sure seems that you don't know the typical make up of a fraternity or sorority, who by there own typically exclusive nature are generally not that attractive to the democrat/liberal/progressive crowd. often because of the costs involved, these kids are usually the children of more conservative or moderately conservative parents who've been relatively successful and/or have been involved in the greek system in the past. which makes your claim of this incident being caused by a bunch of progressives, well, hilarious. as for whether usa colleges are increasingly progressive? based on my experience of paying tuitions, they've certainly seem to have adopted the philosophy of capitalism much more closely than when i was in school in the late 70s, that's for sure. but i have sat in on two college classes at osu since 2011, one for business and one in journalism/communication. and i certainly didn't see flaming liberalism or rigid conservatism oozing out from behind the professor's desk in either of those classes. maybe tosu isn't left wing enough (it's more middle of the road, even slightly right-leaning, compared to schools like michigan, wisconsin, or n'western in the big 10). i also had the chance to audit a sociology class down at clemson for an entire week back in '10... i can tell you w/100% confidence that any overriding progressive-ism was not evident, at all, there. finally, i've had plenty of disagreements on these boards thru the years. calling anyone a 'dumb, stupid f-word' once let alone 3 times is not my idea of healthy, respectful debate. if that's now become yours, that's fine. you'll have one less person to debate with. that crossed a line w/me.

typically exclusive nature are generally not that attractive to the democrat/liberal/progressive crowd. often because of the costs involved, WOW!!!!!!!!! now that certainly isn't a generalization. I didn't join any frats at OSU because it was polar opposite of that. They all acted like east-coast-money.
