Mac's Wednesday Presser - Joey Ivie out for 4 to 5 weeks, back for UGALY, is a blow at DT. He has been playing very good inside: GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida coach Jim McElwain held his final media session of the week Wednesday night. Here were the highlights from his news conference: “We got a lot of stuff done today. It was really good. I think the aftermath and everything is done, it’s over. Let’s go correct and let’s get ourselves a little bit better. I thought it was pretty crisp and we got some good things done.” Injuries: DT Joey Ivie will be out for a while. “He had his hand worked on and that will be four or five (weeks) whenever that thing gets taken care of.” … Right guard Tyler Jordan did non-contact stuff today and will be more “of an emergency guy.” … LB Daniel McMillian reinjured his trap. On QB Luke Del Rio: “He did some of the individual drills. … “We’ll see how that feels really in the morning. He would go (on the trip) anyway just like he did last week, but moving forward Austin has had a good week and is ready to go play again and that should be good.” On Vanderbilt: “This is a good football team we’re playing. They’ve got good players. Look at what they did to us last year. Our guys know.” On replacing Joey Ivie: “Caleb (Brantley) has got to get us a little more probably inside. Taven Bryan is a guy who has to step up and Khairi Clark, who’s been playing (well) anyways. … CeCe (Jefferson) is going to be called on to do a little more. Jachai Polite, who’s played some for us, Luke Ancrum, those guys are going to have to step in there. … The communication when you get new guys in there has got to be utmost.” On Tyrie Cleveland: “He’s just got to become more comfortable with what he’s doing, understand his assignments, the attention to detail it takes to be in the right spots. This guy’s got a chance to be something special here.” On No. 2 quarterback: “Feleipe (Franks) took (more) of the reps. I haven’t seen today’s count.” More on Del Rio, and whether he could be backup quarterback this week: “He’s definitely questionable. I think the big piece based on what he did today in practice, we’ve got to see how the injury responds moving forward. Obviously he’d be a guy we could put in there hopefully, but if not one of those other guys would be ready to go.” Getting ugly thin at DT....

We only have three who can play NT on running plays, Caleb Brantley/Khairi Clark/Taven Bryan. CeCe Jefferson plays the 3 and Jachai Polite has cross trained to play the 3. That is thin indeed. UF can't afford another DT injury. Fortunately, UF gets an off week before UGALY. Joey Ivie may or may not have to wear some sort of soft cast for his thumb, but you can bet he'll play against the poodles. The good news is UF has 3 DTs committed for 17, one being a solid JUCO, and is likely to add a 4th to the class.

This doesn't mean anything for Callaway, but UF clearly wasn't pleased with the Title IX process:
Florida has fired deputy Title IX coordinator Chris Loschiavo, who was involved in the Antonio Callaway sexual assault investigation, and is conducting an internal investigation, according to the Tampa Bay Times’ Claire McNeill. The university sent Loschiavo a termination letter Aug. 23, but did not provide a reason for his dismissal. Callaway’s lawyers reportedly complained to the school about Loschiavo’s supervision of the sexual assault case. They argued that Loschiavo’s work as a consultant with the National Center for Higher Education Risk Management created a conflict of interest. The university did not comment on whether those complaints were the reason for Loschiavo’s termination. Callaway’s attorneys had also said previously that Loschiavo’s role as “the investigator, the prosecutor and the judge” in the case made it an unfair situation for the Florida wideout. Loschiavo was supposed to judge Callaway’s Title IX hearing, but the university later appointed Jake Schickel, a Jacksonville lawyer and Florida athletics booster, to oversee the case instead. Callaway’s accuser boycotted the hearing because of Schickel’s relationship with the football program. Callaway was cleared of wrongdoing Aug. 12.

I'd say OL coach Mike Summers had better kick start his offensive line in terms of pad level and aggression or he could be looking at getting cut at the end of the season. He's a fine man and I hope he lights a fire under the OL, but he has been less than a solid OL recruiter so I'm not sure he would be missed much. This from floridagators.com:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Their work done for the day, the Gators faced the swarm of Florida fans in the visiting stands at Vanderbilt Stadium and saluted them with waves and hugs.
They then began to stream toward the locker room, where a few minutes after a 13-6 victory over the host Commodores on Saturday, you could hear the celebration inside.
No one among the announced crowd of 30,565 will consider Florida's 13th consecutive win at Vanderbilt a thing of beauty unless alcohol is involved, but for the Gators, it was an elixir that helped them move past their loss at Tennessee the previous week.
The final dose was a tipped pass by linebacker Jarrad Davis that was caught by defensive back Nick Washington for a game-clinching interception with 54 seconds left.
The No. 23-ranked Gators could exhale. And move on from the previous week.
"No one on this team has ever been in that situation, to be up 21-3 going into the half and to come out and basically just get blown out in the second half,'' Davis said. "We had no answer for that. We didn't know what happened, what went wrong. We couldn't even explain to ourselves what went wrong.
"That's just something we had to put behind us."
It took a while Saturday for the Gators to do that as both teams played like they stumbled out of bed for the 11 a.m. CT kickoff. Seven of the first eight drives in the game resulted in a punt. The other an interception by Gators cornerback Teez Tabor.
What did the Gators do after Tabor's pick? They punted.
Florida broke the scoreless tie with 6:27 left before halftime when Jordan Scarlett scored on a 4-yard run. Florida led 10-3 at halftime and in the second half, the teams traded a pair of field goals. That was all the scoring.
Gators head coach Jim McElwain summed up the victory afterward in his own special way.
"A wise man once told me, no matter what, you even got to bring them ugly babies home from the hospital," McElwain quipped. "And that was ugly. I feel really good about the fact that our guys figured out a way to win."
The Gators (4-1, 2-1) managed to win despite McElwain's disappointment in their physicality. He said the Gators "got pushed around" on both the offensive and defensive lines.
Vanderbilt rushed for 147 yards to Florida's 92. The Commodores outgained the Gators 265-236 overall, many of the issues up front.
Defensively, the Gators were limited by an injuries to defensive linemen Joey Ivie (did not play) Jordan Sherit (did not play), Bryan Cox (limited duty) and Caleb Brantley (in and out of lineup).
Davis finished with a season-high 15 tackles as a wave of young players got most of the reps up front. Meanwhile, the offensive line got little push up front as the Gators averaged only 2.6 yards on 35 rushes. Quarterback Austin Appleby faced consistent pressure, throwing for just 144 yards on 19 completions in 28 attempts.
"Shoot, we were getting sacked on four-man, three-man rushes, getting pressured,'' McElwain said. "And then not being able to run the ball inside, it wasn't like they loaded the box or anything. Look, I know those guys are working hard and they feel as bad as anybody, so we've got to play with better pad level and we've got to get off the ball with a sense of urgency and quit waiting for somebody else to hit you in the mouth.
"It's that simple. I'm sick of seeing it."

UF opened offshore at +1 for the LSU game. It'll be interesting to see how the betting goes over the next couple of days.

DE isn't an issue because of depth, but the young guys don't set the edge nearly as well as the starters. Look for LSU to break a lot of long runs going off tackle because the UF DE didn't hold his lane as he pushed inside too far. UF is too thin at DT with one out and one marginalized. Vandy marched down the field running the ball until they reached the UF 40 when UF would insert Brantley and Cox to stop the run. That worked against the dores, but the tigers will get a roll that won't be stopped with the insertion of the starters:
Rush DE Jordan Sherit is out for the next two weeks as he is having his knee scoped this week. He'll be back for UGALY.
NT Joey Ivie broke his thumb at UT and will likely be out until UGALY.
DT Caleb Brantley may have to play one handed with a soft cast on an injured hand. My guess is he will play.
SDE Bryan Cox Jr. has an unspecified leg injury and will be in and out of the lineup like at Vandy, mostly out.
In case you missed it, that's two DL starters out and two playing significantly banged up. That's not what you want for a run dominating team like LSU. If I'm Ed Orgeron, I line the offense up in the I formation with a blocking fullback and hammer the UF D mercilessly. UF safeties will cheat up to help stop the run, but that'll set up a couple or three long pass plays to set up easy scores.
If I wasn't a Gator, I'd be laying the points to UF and taking LSU. Even if Luke Del Rio returns, I don't think UF can score enough points to keep up with what LSU is going to put on the board. Fournette and Guice are going to have career days. This could get ugly.
LSU 38; UF 24

Injury Updates for UF and LSU:
UF - Everybody on defense will be ready to play except for NT Joey Ivie and Rush DE Jordan Sherit. LT David Sharpe has practiced through his shoulder injury and is likely to play. Luke Del Rio will likely play unless he develops swelling issues that haven't been enough so far this week to keep him out of the game.
LSU - OL Will Clapp is out with a shoulder injury. RB Leonard Fournette didn't practice through Wednesday this week and is listed as doubtful. That's less than out so UF will prepare for him.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — We’re almost halfway through the season and there’s been one constant for No. 18 Florida — inconsistent offensive line play. The expectation this year was for the position to be improved and a potential team strength. That hasn’t happened. The Gators have repeatedly struggled up front and drew criticism from Florida coach Jim McElwain on Saturday. “We’ve got to play with better pad level and we’ve got to get off the ball with a sense of urgency and quit waiting for somebody else to hit you in the mouth,” McElwain said. “It’s that simple. I’m sick of seeing it.” One bright spot is center Cam Dillard. According to analysis from Pro Football Focus, he’s allowed just three QB pressures in 179 pass blocking snaps this season and graded out higher than any Florida offensive player during the past two weeks. True freshman Jawaan Taylor has also quickly emerged as one of Florida’s best lineman and is starting at right tackle. He took the job from Fred Johnson, who has since moved to right guard and is playing well at that spot. But Dillard knows the unit as a whole isn’t getting the job done. “I think we definitely can improve and I think we need to continue to do that,” Dillard said. “(McElwain) just wants to see us be great and he knows how good we can be. “The team goes as we go, so we take that on us. That’s part of the job at the University of Florida. You come here and you’re supposed to take care of your job.” The left side has been the weak link on the offensive line. The Martez Ivey experiment is not working out at guard and David Sharpe was beaten badly against Tennessee and Vanderbilt. A lineup change could be coming this week out of necessity. “Sharpe, he’s got a shoulder (injury),” McElwain said Monday. “We’ll see what we can get out of him. If not, we can move Tez out there. We’ve got Tyler Jordan back obviously. So I was thinking we can move him over there (to left guard) and keep Fred at right. We’ve got some options there and we’ll see what happens as the week goes on.” This may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the Gators. Jordan is their most versatile lineman and would have no trouble switching sides. But the prospect of Ivey playing left tackle is intriguing. He was a 5-star recruit and the nation’s No. 2 overall player in 2015 because of his ability as an offensive tackle in high school. That is Ivey’s natural position, and his skill set has not translated to guard. A move back to his old spot could not only give him new life and a better fit, but it might light a fire under Sharpe to step up his game if Ivey excels. McElwain isn’t sure how it will shake out, but he called Ivey the obvious answer at left tackle. “Whoever does go is going to go,” McElwain said. “They’re going to do everything they can to help the Gators take the pressure off and just go play, just have a good time.”

Mizzou next up in Gainesville on 10/15 - Televised on SEC Network at 4 PM EDT - NT Joey Ivie is out; Rush DE Jordan Sherit is out; LB Daniel McMillian is questionable, but I think he will likely play; OL Tyler Jordan is back and starting; QB Luke Del Rio is back and starting; LB Jeremiah Moon is back at practice this week, but it's too early to tell if he is playing and is back on the depth chart. Barring injuries in the Mizzou game, it looks like UF will be 100% for UGALY on 10/29.

LSU AD Joe Alleva has already rejected that date as it would mean LSU closes with 3 straight SEC road games and the Thanksgiving game with aTm would have to played on Saturday due to expressed by LSU safety of the players issues. Presbyterian would have to reschedule a conference game. As of Sunday, nobody had contacted LSU's 11/19 opponent, South Alabama. They would have to reschedule a conference game too. Unless the SEC moves back the SECCG to allow UF and LSU to play December 3 in Gainesville, I'm beginning to think the game won't happen. Georgia isn't willing to help either. This from SEC Country: If the Florida-LSU game is going to be played, it won’t be at the expense of the Georgia-Florida game. Georgia Athletic Director Greg McGarity appeared on the Paul Finebaum show on Monday to discuss the difficulties with moving up the Georgia-Florida game. Finebaum asked McGarity if the rivalry game could be moved up a week. Florida and Georgia both have bye weeks on the 22nd, and LSU has a bye on the 29th. Some thought the Florida-LSU game could be played the 29th, with the Georgia game being played on the 22nd. But McGarity said that it would be impractical to play the Georgia-Florida game on a date other than the 29th. “It’s impractical and I don’t think it’s an option whatsoever,” Mcgarity said McGarity also brought up that the Jacksonville Jaguars host the Oakland Raiders on Oct. 23 and that the changes that needed to be made to the stadium for both games could could not be done in time. “It’s really impractical. We have over 15,000 temporary seats placed in the stadium just for that game,” McGarity said. “We have an off week next week and things are in place to play Florida on the 29th. It’s such a traditional game, with 40,000 Georgia fans and 40,000 Florida fans.” The Georgia-Florida game is one of two SEC games that are played at a neutral site every year, with the other being Texas A&M-Arkansas in Arlington, Texas. The game between Georgia and Florida is often called the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. Georgia students also have the Friday before the Florida game off every year as a fall break. The Bulldogs are coming off a Sunday win over South Carolina. Georgia hosts Vanderbilt this Saturday. The game can be seen on the SEC Network. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.

Brandon Siler = Mr. Two Bits for Mizzou plus 2006 national championship team honored:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — For an active Florida football player, the whole Mr. Two Bits thing pretty much comes second hand.
"I never saw him when I was playing. Never really even knew who he was or what it was," former UF linebacker Brandon Siler said. "We were in the locker room."
Siler, like all Gators, eventually got educated on the pre-game ritual made famous for 60-plus years by George Edmondson and soon got wind of the modern-day celebratory version adopted in 2013.
In fact, Siler was on the sidelines last month when Billy Donovan and members of his back-to-back NCAA title teams did the Two Bits cheer in unison as part of their 10-year reunion salute before the Kentucky game. Siler was standing among a group of the players, his contemporaries from those glorious football-basketball championship years. A UF marketing assistant came by handing out faux yellow Two Bits T-shirts and handed one to Siler, assuming he was a former basketball player.
He kept it.
Saturday he'll wear it. For real.
Among the festivities highlighting Florida-Missouri homecoming weekend, the 2006 UF team that obliterated Ohio State for the national championship is invited back for its 10-year anniversary and will be saluted at halftime.
Siler, one of the leaders of that squad, will lead the pre-game hype and get things going before kickoff.
"I love it, man," Siler said Tuesday. "You don't know how much it means to Florida, to the Gators, to everybody associated with the school until you actually see it. When you're playing, you don't understand how important Mr. Two Bits is to the fans. But when you come back and you go to a game, you finally get it."
Siler is especially excited about the weekend because he's been lobbying for recognition of that '06 bunch. He brought it up to Jim McElwain during the offseason, to Jeremy Foley, to anyone who would listen. Truth be told, the 10-year marker for Urban Meyer's first crowned team was always on the UAA radar.
Now Siler, who played six years in the NFL and has since settled in Orlando with his wife, two sons and a third child on the way, gets to not only immerse himself in the pre-game pageantry, but be the center of it -- if only for one special cheer -- as well. He thought about that just the other day when his 6-year-old son, Zion, came into the bathroom and saw his father preening at his own image.
"Daddy, you're looking in the mirror like back when you used to be famous."
Siler laughed.
"Running out on Florida Field, man, when you're 18 or 19 years old, you take that for granted," he said. "When you get a little older, you really appreciate those days. Now, our kids get to see us do it. That's big."

LSU is being an absolute butthole about the situation. It was okay for UF to give up a home game and travel to LSU for a third consecutive SEC road game, but they are adamantly unwilling to do it themselves. This is the AD and prez that left Les Miles twisting in the wind for a week last season and then fired Les after 4 games without having a press conference and taking questions. Nuff said about whom we are dealing, lack of dealing, with. There are some amazing possible consequences of LSU pulling the hard ass attitude. If both LSU and UF win out, UF will go to the SECCG while LSU would not if bama loses at LSU and wins the rest. UF would be 6-1, UT would be 6-2, bama would be 7-1, and LSU would be 6-1. Should that happen, LSU president King Alexander and AD Joe Alleva had best have their resumes updated and ready as they will both be fired. Hey, at least they got their home game against the Sun Belt's South Alabama before being shown the door.
