The bye week allowed the Florida football team to get guys healthy and work on the issues from the Miami loss.
It also gave Will Muschamp and his staff some time to hit the road and conduct prospect evaluations.

I'm thinking LSU, but he's from the same school as Antonio Morrison. We have a shot. Our options at LB are few:

Garrett gears up for Gainesville

One of Florida’s few options at the linebacker position for 2014 is officially visiting this weekend.
South (Ill.) Plainfield’s Clifton Garrett will be on hand Saturday when Florida hosts Tennessee. The Gators and the Vols are two of his finalists.
“I’m ready to see them go at it,” he said. “It’s a rivalry game and I know there’s going to be a crazy atmosphere.”
Garrett visited Gainesville in late June and was impressed by Jeff Dillman and his strength and conditioning program.
“Getting a chance to go in the weight room and meet coach Dillman was the highlight of my trip,” he said. “He’s an intense guys and gets everyone fired up. All the facilities are right in the stadium, so that’s real convenient for the players and it’s a real nice area.”
The 6-foot-2, 224-pounder hopes to see much more of UF this weekend since it will likely be his last chance to visit.
“This is probably my last trip to Florida, so I want to see everything they have to offer,” he said. “I can’t wait to spend time with the coaches and see what gameday is like. I just want to get the full experience and I’m looking forward to every part of it. I’m not really sure what to expect, but I know it’s going to be fun.”
This will be the first of five officials for Garrett, a consensus top-100 recruit who is ranked the No. 3 inside linebacker by ESPN and Rivals. He currently has a Top 5 — in order — of LSU, Florida, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Oregon.
“I like LSU a lot, but those other schools are not far behind at all,” Garrett said. “I’m going to start narrowing things down after I take my trips and weigh the pros and cons of all the schools. Right now the plan is for me to announce at the Army All-American Bowl.”

Brent Pease Speaks - this from Gator Country:
Written byAndrew Spivey, September 17, 2013, 0 Comments,

After a week off offensive coordinator Brent Pease met with the media on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the upcoming game against Tennessee.
Here’s a quick notebook to get you up to speed on what Pease said to the media on Tuesday. •Pease doesn’t see Florida going to an uptempo offense against Tennessee this week like Oregon did a week ago. •Matt Jones is more comfortable and ready for this week’s game then he was against Miami two weeks ago. •Pease believes Driskel is more confident in his decision making process than he was a year ago. •Trey Burton did in fact run the wrong route on the interception in the Miami game. •Pease said he made two bad calls in the redzone and one of those was calling for the quarterback sneak on fourth down. •The wildcat formation is something that Pease believes is successful more than it’s not. •Demarcus Robinson has been targeted some but the coverage has taken away his ability to make plays. •Jeff Driskel took a couple of days off but he will be all right according to Pease. •Kent Taylor is young and is getting better according to Pease.

#4 Gators Volleyball Sweeps #17 nolies in tight match - this from Gatorzone:
The No. 4 University of Florida volleyball team swept in-state foe No. 17 Florida State, 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-23), in a thrilling match on Tuesday night at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. The Gators were bolstered by double-digit kill outputs by senior middle blocker Chloe Mann and sophomore outside hitter Živa Recek, who both had 12 kills.
Florida State jumped ahead by four early in the first two sets but impressive serving by Taylor Unroe got the Gators even with the Seminoles as she aided Florida in going on a 4-0 run in each stanza.
QUICK HITS:
· Sophomore middle blocker Simone Antwi tallied a career-high seven stuffs against the Seminoles, adding five kills and a service ace en route to Florida’s victory.
· Freshman Alex Holston notched six errorless kills on a .462 offensive clip, stuffing four blocks Tuesday, the second-most of the season for the Gator rookie.
· The Gators have out-blocked eight opponents on the season and have registered double-figure block-assist performances in seven matches in 2013.
· Florida served up five aces against the Seminoles, tying for the second-highest in a three-set match this season.
· Junior defensive specialist Holly Pole used a diving save to record her first kill of the season, just the second of her career.
ALL-TIME: Under Gator head coach Mary Wise, Florida has gone a remarkable 29-3 against FSU, including an undefeated 17-0 at home. The Gators recorded their 21st sweep of Florida State in program history and moved to 36-17 all-time against the Seminoles.
RECORDS: Florida: 9-1, Florida State: 6-4
MARY’S MINUTE: “It was a really tight match tonight. Just looking at the box score, I think people see a sweep and think it was easy. This was a tough, tight match. I was really proud of how hard we played. I thought our blocking improved tonight. It’s just like we were talking about yesterday, the transition from high school to college is the hardest with blocking. While I’m pleased with Alex’s offensive numbers, hitting .462, I think she would be most pleased with the four blocks.”
MARY BY THE NUMBERS:
At Florida: 695-81
All-Time: 776-144
UP NEXT: Florida travels to the state of Wisconsin to take on Marquette (Fri., Sept. 20 – 8 p.m. ET) and Wisconsin-Milwaukee (Sat., Sept. 21 – 7 p.m. ET) at the Marquette Invitational. The next two matches are Florida’s last of the non-conference slate before starting SEC play in the Magnolia State against Mississippi State (Fri., Sept. 27 – 8 p.m. ET) and Ole Miss (Sun., Sept. 29 – 2:30 p.m. ET).

By SCOTT CARTER GatorZone.com Senior Writer
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The tweets started to pop up in the second half as the score grew wider and wider.
This one from ESPN’s Pac-12 blog got a lot of play on Twitter: Oregon is clearing its bench with four minutes left in the third quarter against an SEC team.
The No. 2-ranked Ducks, in their 59-14 victory over Tennessee on Saturday, scored 59 unanswered points after the Vols grabbed the early lead. By the time the third quarter was over, Oregon led by 52 and had amassed 658 yards of total offense – the most an SEC team has allowed through three quarters over the past 10 years.
Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota threw for a career-high 456 yards and four touchdowns as the Ducks finished with 687 yards against a Tennessee defense that never had a chance.
Known for its high-powered, up-tempo offense under former coach Chip Kelly, the Vols learned not much has changed in Eugene since Kelly left for the NFL and was replaced by Mark Helfrich, his offensive coordinator the past four seasons.
Oregon’s offensive explosion caught everyone’s attention, including Gators offensive coordinator Brent Pease.
Coming off a 21-16 loss at Miami, the Gators had a bye week and some of the players and coaches watched the Oregon-Tennessee game with the Vols coming to town Saturday in the SEC opener for both schools.
With Oregon’s up-tempo offense racing up and down the field against the Vols as if on the Autobahn, Pease took notes. Still, don’t look for the Gators to scrap their playbook and try to duplicate the Ducks’ offense.
That is no easy task.
“It’s always interesting to do some of that,’’ Pease said Tuesday. “You have to understand how they have built this thing for the last five to six years, their kids and how dialed in they are. It’s tough for us to say ‘that’s us’ all of a sudden.
“We practice it. You saw us to it a little bit last year to start off games, kind of to get the kids in a flow. It’s something we always have prepared.”
Facing a Tennessee defense that features eight starters who are juniors or seniors, the Ducks scored touchdowns on eight of nine drives during one stretch. Oregon put together scoring drives of 37, 78, 80, 80, 92, 73, 89 and 63 yards.
The Ducks’ longest touchdown drive in time of possession: 2 minutes, 18 seconds.
That is an up-tempo offense running on high octane.
“We're probably more designed to go six to 12 plays in a drive, rather than three to four, and hold onto the ball for more than two minutes in a drive,’’ Pease said. “We have to make sure our components are going to fit to what we feel are our matchups and how we attack teams.”
The Gators are averaging 414 yards per game through two games, which ranks 11th in the conference. Meanwhile, Tennessee’s defense is 11th in the league, surrendering an average of 430.3 yards per game. In wins over Austin Peay and Western Kentucky to start the season under first-year coach Butch Jones, the Vols allowed 302 yards per game.
That average got blown up by the Ducks.
As Jones prepares to bring the Volunteers to town for his first game in The Swamp, he is focused on trying to flush last week’s blowout from his team’s psyche.
“Right now, moving forward, we are not a very mentally tough football team," Jones said Monday. "Everything we do in our football program is about mental conditioning, mental toughness, and when you go on the road you have to have a road focus about yourself.”
Tennessee senior defensive line Daniel Hood has yet to win a game against the Gators. The Vols have lost eight in a row in the series, last winning in 2004.
Hood is concerned about the loss at Oregon having a lingering effect like some early season losses in recent seasons for the Vols. Tennessee is 1-23 against Top 25 teams since 2008 and has lost 17 in a row to ranked opponents.
“We never really developed that mental toughness last season to overcome the bad things that happened," Hood told reporters Monday. “We can't let that happen this time. We've got to follow Coach Jones's rule about Snap and Clear. You've got to forget about it, clear it from your mind."
The Gators’ goal is to do something that delivers a flashback for the Vols’ defense. An early touchdown or two in the red zone would be ideal after Florida went 1-for-6 on scoring touchdowns inside the red zone at Miami.
Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel said during the bye week the Gators focused on ball security and decision-making, starting with him.
“No one’s been able to stop us when we haven’t had a turnover or a penalty, so just worry about us first and then taking care of the other team second,’’ Driskel said. “If we can handle us, we’ll be fine. On an off-week you do work on yourself before you get into your opponent, so it timed out well for us.”
Pease took some of the blame Monday for the offense’s lack of execution at critical moments in the loss at Miami. One drive ended on a quarterback sneak that Miami’s defensive line squeezed out. Pease said he should have called a different play in that situation.
The Gators plan to mix it up against a Tennessee defense that looked very fragile at Oregon. Just don’t expect the Gators to hurry up and down the field the way the Ducks did.
“There’s some things you can draw from [what Oregon did],’’ Pease said. “But in the same sense, what we told our kids, you gotta throw that out because one, this is the SEC, they’re coming here to play us and it’s a rivalry game. They gotta understand that the passion between the two teams and probably some hatred between the two teams and the competition level of what you’re gonna get from them, you’re gonna get their best shot.
“You can’t say, ‘well, gosh, we’re running this same play that Oregon ran.’ There’s different situation of circumstances there of how the flow of the game went compared to what we’re probably gonna be in.”

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Florida defensive tackle Dominique Easley says he sometimes sings along to “Rocky Top” while hearing it over and over again whenever the Gators face Tennessee.
“Something gets so annoying, you got to make the best out of it,” Easley said.
Lately, that's about the only way Tennessee has been able to bother Florida.
Florida has beaten Tennessee eight consecutive times, which represents the Gators' longest winning streak in the 42-game history of this series. The 19th-ranked Gators try to continue their recent mastery of this rivalry Saturday at The Swamp.
Tennessee (2-1, 0-0 Southeastern Conference) hasn't defeated Florida (1-1, 0-0) since a 30-28 victory at Neyland Stadium in 2004. The Vols also have lost their last 17 games against ranked opponents and are 1-23 versus Top 25 teams since 2008.

LOL, very true. You hear it enough, eventually it sticks in your head. Thankfully the only time I saw UT in person, the game was played in a monsoon so the band didn't have as many chances to play Rocky Top.

Rocky Top is even more annoying than the nolie warchant. The UT band plays it whether it's appropriate or not insofar as game action is concerned. It's an annoying pain in the butt.

Although two starters — cornerback Marcus Roberson and offensive tackle Tyler Moore — appeared “gimpy” in practice Tuesday, Florida coach Will Muschamp said he expected the Gators to be close to full health for Saturday's game against Tennessee.
Roberson has been nursing a sprained knee, while Moore continues to deal with an ankle he sprained in the Miami loss two weeks ago.
“Roberson, I think he'll still be able to play,” Muschamp said. “He was a little gimpy yesterday, but should be OK. Tyler Moore the same.”
Muschamp said quarterback Jeff Driskel (knee) and offensive guard Jon Halapio (partially torn pectoral muscle) should be good to go Saturday. Halapio is making his return after missing all of camp and the first two games.
“Halapio has looked really good,” Muschamp said. “Driskel has looked really good. We should be healthy for the game.”

Darrell, I don't think Miami is going to flip this recruit or the other two who want to play together and with Cook. He's recruiting for UF:
September 18th, 2013 03:00pm
Commit of the week: RB Dalvin Cook
by Zach Abolverdi
Florida coach Will Muschamp and assistant Brian White traveled to Miami on Thursday to watch running back commitment Dalvin Cook in action.
The Under Armour All-American made their trip well worth it.
Cook ran for 162 yards and three touchdowns on just nine carries as Central shutout Coral Reef, 49-0. But that was just his official statline.
The 5-foot-11, 192-pounder also had three scores called back in the first quarter — a 90-yard punt return and touchdown runs of 68 and 46 yards.
Cook took an official visit to Texas over the weekend but told The Sun he is still “100 percent” committed to the Gators following the trip.
