Robbie Andreu of the Gainesville Sun ranks the Gators DL as 3rd best in the SEC behind Auburn and Alabama. Given the experience, depth, and talent across the DL, I'm not so sure that the Gators don't have the best DL in the SEC. I'm more optimistic on Kyree Campbell coming back off injury and Marlon Dunlap transferring in than Andreu. UF goes 6 deep at DT. As Charley Pell once said, God smiles on teams with good DTs. UF is loaded both inside and outside: www.gatorsports.com/2018/08/uf-defensive-line-breakdown-end-position-loaded-tackles-need-to-rise-above/

Turnovers expected to increase under DC Todd Grantham's attacking defense: www.gatorcountry.com/feature/florida-gators-expect-new-defense-to-create-more-turnovers/The 3 keys to having the 18 defense return to elite status: 1. DTs who can collapse the pocket - Check 2. DEs who can pressure the QB - Check 3. DBs who can cover - Check It wouldn't surprise me to see the Gators defense rebound to top 10 status. The talent and depth exists to do so. As one of my preseason predictions, the Gators defense will return to top 10 status.

Special Teams Getting Extra Emphasis: www.gatorcountry.com/florida-gators-football/gators-putting-extra-emphasis-on-forgotten-aspect-of-the-game/The special teams players eat first. I noticed in the 26-3 UF win in 08 over Miami countdown video that Brent Mussberger commented that UF special teams had a lot of starters in on the UF blocked punt for a safety just before halftime. It was a policy during the Urban Meyer era that the special teams players ate first. Dan Mullen continued that policy at Mississippi State and now back at UF. The more I read about this team, the more excited I'm getting about the season. The only exception so far is at QB where Mullen has much work to do.

In just about every article I've read, strength and conditioning coordinator Nick Savage has gotten rave reviews for his work with the players. Mullen has even involved him into the practices. All comments are about the better conditioning, better muscular weight, and better physicality and strength of the players. Khairi Clark admitted that UF was physically overmatched in many games under McElwain due to a lack of commitment to weight lifting and physical conditioning. Nick Savage is a huge upgrade and a terrific Mullen hire who will help the Gators to get better on the field results.

DE Adam Shuler came in from West Virginia at 6'4"/275. That's up 5 lbs. over media reports. He'll lose the weight sweating in the Florida heat. He should be used to it since he's from the Orlando area. He's a good graduate transfer addition with 2 years remaining to play.

Elijah Conliffe is a stud mentally and physically. floridagators.com/news/2018/8/7/football-conliffe-embraces-double-teams-if-needed.aspxBoth he and fellow sophomore TJ Slaton are going to be fixtures at NT along with senior Khairi Clark. The Gators are blessed to be deep on the DL. These are UF's NTs and DTs: NT Khairi Clark 6'1"/311 NT Tedarrell (TJ) Slaton 6'5"/343 NT Elijah Conliffe 6'4"/317 - Can play NT, DT, and DE. DT Kyree Campbell 6'3"/304 DT Marlon Dunlap 6'3"/295 DT Luke Ancrum 6'5"/264 - For his size, he has a knack for putting pressure on the QB from inside. DL Malik Langham 6'4"/286 - True freshman so it will be interesting to see how he develops. He's from Huntsville, Al. Bama and AU wanted him.

Player Observations on Newcomers - Take with grain of salt as media is excluded from most of practice: 247sports.com/college/florida/ContentGallery/Florida-Gators-Football-Newcomer-Notes-10-Early-Standouts-Observations-120475737/#120475737_11I see Adam Shuler as starting with the 3 technique DT, but he will get reps at DE too. At 6'4"/275, they are trying out his flexibility. In either case, he will be a contributor. Malik Langham was not an early enrollee. He may be look the part at 6'4"/286, but he has a lot of work to do. No one knows now whether he will develop into a DE, DT, or a combo of both. He has talent, but zero college experience. It's too bad he didn't enroll in January to participate in spring practice.

Nick de la Torre @nickdelatorregc
Sal Sunseri says he thinks the #Gators DL will be three deep at every position when the season rolls around. That's a lot of depth and they plan to have a healthy rotation of players throughout games.
