Huge loss for the Gators if true. Seems like the good breaks you caught last year are heading in the opposite direction so far this year.
And to add....I feel for the kid. You never hope for an injury to a player, even one who plays for a heated rival.

Muschamp is calling it a tweaked knee that needs more information. The more information is an MRI that couldn't be done yesterday when the injury happened. I'm not sure the MRI has been done yet. The coaches said the same thing about Andre Debose having a tweaked knee. When the MRI result came in, it was announced as a season ending torn ACL. People may think it's a torn ACL, but there is no way of knowing without the results of an MRI. Still, it doesn't look good for Easley. I've seen him projected in the next NFL draft as a 1st rounder as high as number 9. UF starters with season ending injuries: Chaz Green - OL Andre Debose - WR Jeff Driskel - QB Dominique Easley - DT (pending MRI confirmation) If Easley is lost for the season, the coaches are saying true freshman Jay-nard Bostwick will be gotten ready to play which will end his chance at a redshirt. Meet Jay-nard Bostwick - He'll play this season if Dominique Easley is lost or gone for a significant time: www.gatorzone.com/football/bios.php?year=2013&player_id=376He's 6'3"/ 305 and from south Florida competition. He's going to be a good one, just sooner than everyone thought he would be needed. There is still no official word on Dominique Easley.

Defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin met with the media today as rumors swirled about a possible serious injury to senior defensive tackle Dominique Easley. Durkin did not address to what extent Easley was injured but he did address how the Gators would handle playing without Easley if needed as well as recapping how his unit played against Tennessee and previewing Kentucky.
On Easley •Florida is very deep at just about every position on defense and Durkin insisted that the rotation would be fine without Easley. Injuries are a part of the game and the coaching staff has to be prepared for them.
Quotable: “I think at every position on our defense, we have a pretty healthy rotation to where obviously it’s part of the game. It’s nothing you want to happen to anyone or at any position, but we plan for that everywhere. That’s why we play a lot of guys.” •Dominique Easley “tweaked” his knee on a non-contact play while chasing down a screen pass. •Durkin complemented the way that Easley has played this season but downplayed how big of a hit it would be to lose him for the season to a serious injury.
Quotable: “Dominique is a guy that has a great motor, great enthusiasm as you can see on the field. I think that’s a contagious thing. I think he’s been very disruptive to many teams in the backfield. He plays the game the way we want guys to play on defense. With all that being said, he’s a part of a whole team of guys that I think are playing well and doing things.” •Florida is not afraid to play freshmen, especially on defense, The staff is confident that several of the freshmen defensive tackles could move in and play if need be. •Jay-nard Bostwick, Joey Ivie and Bryan Cox Jr. (a redshirt freshman) are players who will be asked to step up in the event that Easley’s injury keeps him out for any length of time.
On Kentucky •Joker Phillips has helped prepare not only the offensive players but the defensive players as well. Phillips recruited almost the whole roster of players at Kentucky and is very familiar with the team. •Kentucky has rotated both Jalen Whitlow and Maxwell Smith this season and the Gators are preparing to face both quarterbacks. Whitlow is a dual-threat quarterback and Smith is more of a pocket-passer for the Wildcats.
Quotable: “I think we just have to be prepared for both obviously. They do play both of them and play both of them in all the games and both guys have maybe a different skill-set, but a strong skill-set. They both look like they’re executing what they want to do on offense. And they’ve been able to move the ball and do well. So, we’re obviously watching to see who’s in there and what they like to do with each one. There are some similarities, but there’s also some differences, so we’re just preparing for those.”
On the defense as a whole •The defense hasn’t played its best game yet. Durkin believes the unit can be more consistent and that there are some things that can be cleaned up. •Vernon Hargreaves has emerged to be what the coaching staff and fans thought he was coming out of Tampa Wharton and he might even exceed expectations.
Quotable: “He (Hargreaves) has played a lot in every game. He proved early on that he’s mature enough and has the ability to really help us this year, and I think everyone has seen that. It has been pretty apparent when he’s out on the field.” •Florida’s secondary was hit with injuries and had a player kicked out of the game last week but the unit is so deep that they went largely unaffected. Durkin called having that much depth a “luxury.” •Loucheiz Purifoy is recovering from a thigh contusion but will reportedly be able to play this week. •Antonio Morrison is leading the team in tackles despite missing the season opener. Durkin credited Morrison’s preparation as well as his football IQ and instincts as to why he has been able to play so well this season.
Quotable: “Antonio is a guy that practices hard every single day, prepares well in the meeting room, he’s really involved watching film. He loves football and he loves preparing. He’ll continue to improve and get better and better. That’s what makes him a great player.” •Dante Fowler Jr. had a breakout game against Tennessee. Durkin said that Fowler is just scratching the surface of his potential right now.
On special teams •Since becoming the defensive coordinator Durkin does not spend nearly as much time coaching on special teams as he used to. •Kyle Christy’s production has seen a huge drop-off from last season. Durkin said he knows he’s talented and that he will work through whatever is keeping him from performing up to his standard. •Johnny Townsend was on track to redshirt this season but Christy’s job as the starting punter is not safe. The staff will not hesitate to pull Townsend’s redshirt status if they feel like he is the better option at any point this season.

I am sure they will get the MRI for confirmation once the swelling goes down a bit, but if the ortho felt it was probably an ACL before, most likely the MRI will confirm it.

The MRI was done at midday today. Muschamp will probably officially announce the result at his press conference tomorrow.

It's official, Dominique Easley has been lost for the season. In addition, his Gator career is over as he's going to rehab and move on to the NFL. With the 4 starters missing the season along with freshman LBer Matt Rolin, UF is down to 78 ship players:

The potentially devastating news that many had been anticipating all afternoon finally broke early Wednesday evening with the announcement that Florida defensive tackle Dominique Easley will miss the rest of the season with a major knee injury.
UF coach Will Muschamp announced that Easley tore the anterior cruciate ligament and medial meniscus in his right knee during a non-contact drill in Tuesday’s practice.
Earlier in the day, Muschamp said Easley had tweaked his knee and was expected to be fine, but that he was still waiting for an official diagnosis from doctors.
“As I said earlier today on the SEC conference call, Dominique injured his right knee in practice late Tuesday night in a non-contact situation,” Muschamp said in a UF release. “Test results have revealed that he suffered a tear of both his ACL and medial meniscus, which will require season-ending surgery.
“I talked to Dominique and the team this afternoon and we will continue to look for his leadership and experience throughout the season.
“Watching any of your players go through this is one of the hardest things about being a coach. Obviously, it is hardest on Dominique. We are disappointed for him, but we will be there for him every step of the way through his surgery and rehab process.”
The bad news on Easley comes only a few days after the Gators lost starting quarterback Jeff Driskel for the season after he broke his lower right leg in last Saturday’s win over Tennessee.
Driskel underwent surgery Wednesday to have a plate and screws inserted for the fibula fracture.
Easley, a senior, indicated on his Twitter account earlier in the day that his UF career was over.

When the next depth chart comes out next Monday, I think the DT depth chart will look like this:
Nose: Leon Orr 6'5"/302 - Damien Jacobs 6'3"/300 Tackle: Darious Cummings 6'1"/305 - Jay-nard Bostwick 6'3"/305 - Joey Ivie 6'3"/270 OR Bryan Cox, Jr. 6'3"/260
This presumes DJ Durkin's comments earlier today were correct and UF doesn't sustain any DT injuries at UK. Bostwick is going to burn his redshirt and Ivie and Cox are going to help out. This according to DJ Durkin.
The line will be bigger at DT as all of the 1s and 2s are 300+. However, there is no way to replace what Easley brought to the table in leadership, speed, and skill.

SEC POWER RATINGS
1. Alabama: The Tide seems to be in that mode where you win and don't worry about style points.
2. LSU: Did you see how many people left Tiger Stadium at halftime? That was stunning.
3. Texas A&M: The Aggies still have a tough schedule ahead of them and still have a chance for everything they want.
4. Georgia: Finally, the Bulldogs have to play a tough West team. And we thought it was against the rules.
5. South Carolina: It's hard to believe the Gamecocks have to travel to UCF.
6. Florida: Gators have suffered so many injuries that you wondered Saturday if they had enough to field a team.
7. Ole Miss: The Rebels could become a national story if they knock off Alabama.
8. Missouri: The Tigers are a tough team to figure because of who they have played.
9. Auburn: Gus Malzahn's team hung in there, but did you ever think they could win at LSU?
10. Arkansas: Tough week when you lose a game with an awful fourth quarter and have to prepare for Johnny Football.
11. Vanderbilt: The Commodores got a win they had to have if they plan to go bowling.
12. Mississippi State: Bulldogs throttled Troy last week with 35 second-quarter points.
13. Tennessee: The Vols have some issues that are going to take some time to straighten out.
14. Kentucky: The Wildcats defense appears to be pretty strong and will be a test for UF's Tyler Murphy.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The irony of the task ahead is not lost on Chris Leak.
The Florida Gators, with their starting quarterback Jeff Driskel out for the season with a broken leg, head north this weekend for a Southeastern Conference road date against Kentucky, where fourth-year junior Tyler Murphy will get the first start of his career at Commonwealth Stadium.
“It’s kind of deja vu for me,” Leak said. “But I think it’s a different situation.”
As UF’s offensive graduate assistant, Leak has worked closely in helping Murphy prep for the experience that awaits in Lexington, be it the pressure, the anxiety or the blitzes the Wildcats surely will send at the Florida quarterback in his first road test.
Probably even told a story or two of his own experience.
Like that one nearly a decade ago to the day. Sept. 27, 2003. Against Kentucky. On the road. The first start of Leak’s career.
And what a start it was.
Make that, what a finish it was.
Down by two touchdowns in the first half, then by 18 points heading into the fourth quarter, the Gators rallied to score the game’s final 21 points and stole a 24-21 victory -- completing the biggest road comeback in school history -- before a shell-shocked Bluegrass crowd that collectively believed its 17-game losing streak in the series finally had come to an end.
That streak is now 26 in row.
“Embrace adversity,” Leak said in thinking back to the night 10 years ago when he became just the fourth true freshman in Florida history to start a game at quarterback and the first since Jesse Palmer in 1997. “We took on adversity all season long that year.”
UF-UK ’03 differed from the ’13 edition for a couple reasons relative to the Gators' starting quarterbacks. Leak, a true freshman at the time and top recruit at his position in the country the year before, had played in Florida’s four previous games, taking a series here and there from Ingle Martin.
While Leak was a not a fourth-year player ingrained in the program, like Murphy, he believed he was going into the game very prepared, courtesy of Coach Ron Zook and offensive coordinator Ed Zaunbrecher, and with the idea of playing his game and having fun.
“I was on a mission from the start to get Florida back to prominence, with the help of the younger guys on the team and the seniors in that group,” Leak said. “I did exactly what my head coach told me to do: ‘Go out and be Chris Leak and play to the best of your ability.’ I felt like I did that that game.”
It didn’t start perfectly -- Leak threw a first-quarter interception into double coverage -- and the Gators trailed 21-3 entering the final period. But they were driving.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Leak threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Carlos Perez to cap a nine-play, 83-yard drive. The two-point conversion attempt failed and the Gators trailed 21-9.
The UF defense forced a UK punt, but Leak threw an interception with nine minutes to go.
Hello, adversity. Again.
But Florida’s defense held, the special teams got a 25-yard punt return from Keiwan Ratliff, and Leak had the ball again.
“Anytime you have a young quarterback like myself at the time, your defense is going to have to pick up the slack. There is going to be growing pains on the offensive side of the ball,” Leak said. “But we stuck together. Offense, defense and special teams played very well.”
Ratliff’s runback started UF at the Kentucky 28. The Gators were in big trouble on fourth-and-goal from the 10, but Leak hit Perez for the clutch score and the point-after made it 21-16 with 4:46 to go.
Then senior Jared Lorenzen, the Wildcats' popular wide-bodied quarterback ("The Pillsbury Throwboy"), made a pivotal mistake that proved the difference against the Gators and his rookie counterpart.
Under pressure from linebacker Channing Crowder, Lorenzen tried to spin out of a sack and make a throw, but instead passed the ball right to UF cornerback Johnny Lamar, who returned the interception to the Kentucky 1.
That made things easy for the Gators' freshman QB.
Ran Carthon’s 1-yard touchdown run with 3:15 remaining, plus a Leak-to-Kelvin Kite 2-point conversion, made it Florida 24-21.
UK’s Taylor Begley missed a 50-yard field goal with 44 seconds to play, leaving Leak to take a knee for his first win.
“I still remember the locker room after the game,” said Leak, who finished 20 of 35 for 268 yards, two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions. “The guys and the joy on their faces.”
Some examples from that day:
Sophomore center Mike Degory: “Chris graduated today. He’s like a senior now.”
Senior offensive tackle Max Starks: “There’s no description for the excitement and joy and all the adjectives that relate to that [comeback]. It was just unbelievable. Our whole sideline just erupted after the interception. It was awesome. We knew it was our game from that point.”
And this from Zook: “Chris did some things he knows he can’t do. He’ll learn an awful lot from this. We’ve said this all along, but the only way he’s going to to get experience is if he plays. This was a big win for him and a heck of a job by him.”
A springboard performance to a career that ended, of course, with a national championship.
“Doesn’t seem like 10 years ago,” Leak said with a smile.
Now, Leak wants Murphy to bring home his own set of special (and victorious) memories this weekend.
Preferably, without so much drama.
“He’s been here and paid his dues a long time,” Leak said. “I think he’s going to be a little more even-keeled than I was being an 18-year-old. I’m expecting a great many things from him.”
