Pat Dooley says to not expect the 2014 SEC schedule to be released at SEC Media Days. Pat says every time they think they have the schedule that someone complains. It's probably bama not wanting to play UF even with the game in Tuscaloser.

You certainly know the Canes better than I, but I'm going off of what I've seen, and what information I can glean from the games the Canes have played. Porter played in 4 games last year, and in 3 of the 4, the opponent rushed for more than their season average. He's played in 7 games total over the last 3 years, starting 3, and has 4.5 TFL for his career, and 0 sacks. In his defense, he's been hurt...but if he's missed most of the last 3 years due to injury, it doesn't say much for the rest of the line that he's the best you got. I said that I like Pierre, and think he's a solid player, but he doesn't strike fear in the heart of any rushing offense. And you made my point for me regarding depth. If you are talking about relying on kids who aren't even in school yet to become significant contributors this fall, it means your depth is sorely lacking. Porter isn't going to be able to play 50 snaps a game. Com I believe I have conceded that problem we have with depth on the D line before. As for Porter, when he is in, he is dominant. But in the few games he played last year he really wasn't in football condition but for maybe the last one or two. He made a huge difference in the run defense up the middle when he was in, but coming off abdominal surgery he was not able to play an inordinate number of snaps per game, so the total for the game doesn't mean a lot. In our defense under DeOnfrio you are not going to see the DT's get a lot of sacks, as he plays a read and control for the DT's and allow the linebackers to clean up. Two of the new guys this year are juco transfers, not freshmen, which is why they are expected to contribute immediately. And they were recruited specifically because of their talent for rushing off the edge. The one freshman, AQM, is just one of those freakish kids who seems to have been born to rush a QB. I think the DT rotation will be much better with Porter, Pierre and Robinson all appearing healthy coming into the season after all of them having injury problems last year. All have done well in S & C with great gains reported in the weight room numbers. I also look for the young guys like Corey King and Earl Moore, neither of whom should have played last year, to be much better with another year under their belts. King in particular is suppose to be over 40 plus reps on the bench press now whereas I believe he couldn't do ten when he got to school.

The SEC Media Days media voted UF to finish 3rd in the East behind UGALY and USC. I'm not buying it - just more bulletin board material. They obviously forgot you win with defense in the SEC. Of the three teams, the poodles have the weakest defense by far.
In the West, it's bama followed by aTm and then LSU. That's closer to being right than the East.

HOOVER, Ala. -- The Florida Gators find themselves right where they were a year ago, picked to finish third in the SEC’s Eastern Division by the media that covers the league.
Georgia is the pick to win the East, with South Carolina finishing second. UF received only 19-first place votes to Georgia’s 149 and USC’s 75.
Defending national champion Alabama was an overwhelming pick to win the Western Division and the SEC title. The Tide received 225 first-place votes to runner-up Texas A&M’s 11 in the division race, while receiving 182 first-place votes to Georgia’s 38 for SEC champion.
The Gators are well-represented on the media’s preseason All-SEC team that was released Thursday at SEC Media Days.
UF placed three players on the first team — defensive tackle Dominique Easley, cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy and punter Kyle Christy. The Gators had no position players on the first two teams a year ago.
The Gators have two players on the second team — offensive guard Jon Halapio and cornerback Marcus Roberson.
Tailback Matt Jones, center Jon Harrison, linebacker Ronald Powell and return specialist Andre Debose are on the third team, along with Purifoy (all-purpose player).
As for the SEC predictions, the media does not have a successful track record picking the SEC champion. The writers and broadcasters have been right only four times — Florida in 1994, 1995 and 2008 and LSU in 2007.
LSU was picked to win the conference last season.

Rumors flying this morning that Anthony Moten has decommitted from UF and they he and Cook will be committing to the U over the weekend. Miami picked up 4 star DE Chad Thomas this morning and CB Nigel Bethel last night, both out of BT Washington HS. Any scuttlebutt on the UF boards?

Moten has been rumored to decommit for quite a while. If it happens, Miami is getting a stud. It'll take a year to get him ready, but he has the frame to grow into a dominant DT. His family has been advising him to be uncommitted while taking visits so it'll be interesting to see if he acts to decommit and then recommits right away to Miami.
Cook would be a surprise with UF's RB depth chart and the fact that he was out in Oregon recruiting other players for UF.
I expect a lot of happenings now through Friday Night Lights later this month.

Recruiting is never boring, to say the least. I had heard several times Moten wouldn't stick. He and Clark had long been considered Miami locks. But STA kids have the reputation of never decommitting, so it didn't seem feasible. I guess maybe the new coach there doesn't have the influence that Coach Smith did for so many years. Cook will be interesting. His brother is playing Miami basketball this year and he will be on campus for most of the games, at least that is what we hear. Him and Yearby are tight and, lets face it, they are both five star recruits and studs. They know they will play wherever they wind up. I must admit, I'd love a rotation of Duke, Yearby and Cook for one year.

Moten decommitted officially today. An insider said he basically decommitted 3 weeks ago. This wasn't a surprise. My guess is he wouldn't be a safe commit for any team including Miami at this stage. I'm pretty sure Muschamp will continue to recruit the kid regardless of what he says or does.
I'll let you know if I see any Cook rumors. I asked about the rumor in the Moten thread on Gator Country so I'm guessing it will get some responses.

The consensus is Cook isn't decommitting from UF this weekend.
The following from the Gainesville Sun on Moten. I have a feeling this doesn't bother the coaches too much. Muschamp has shown a tendency to not be concerned about players more worried about depth charts than players doing everything they can to compete to get on the field. Moten would not likely play at UF as a true freshmen:
Moten decommits from UF's 2014 class By Zach Abolverdi Correspondent

Anthony Moten was in and out of Florida’s football recruiting class before even visiting Gainesville.
The Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas defensive tackle decommitted from UF on Saturday, putting the Gators at 10 commits for 2014.
The 6-foot-4, 292-pounder originally pledged to Florida on April 2 but began wavering in late June after UF hosted two junior college defensive tackles (Abu Lamin and DaVonte Lambert) on official visits and landed Army All-American Khairi Clark.
A desire for early playing time also caused Moten to change his mind. He has dropped the Gators from consideration and is now looking at Florida State, Miami and South Carolina.
“Florida is loaded at DT and I’m trying to get on the field,” Moten wrote in a text message to The Sun.

Twenty years ago this kind of stuff drove me crazy. Now, sixty years old, I could give a shit less about the wandering mind of a bunch of 18 year old kids. One thing I have grown to accept, come signing day we will have a whole group of kids committed to Miami who want to be Canes and they will usually turn out to be a pretty good group of kids.

I'll go a step further Darrell, I expect a few early commitments to decommit or be decommitted. It happens every year and is nothing to get worked up over. Last year, UF had decommits, decommitted by UF, several to commit to UF after decommitting elsewhere, and a couple of players who decommitted UF and then recommitted to UF later. It's a squirrelly process.
The Gators are going to sign a class of 22+-1 come February. I suspect the class will be pretty good and will likely be ranked outside the top 5 based on the low number of recruits, but hopefully will be in the top 10, say the 8-10 range. It's just way too early to know or care who those players will be.

I am not sure where we are right now right now. I don't really even care. Just give us a class of solid football players who want to be Canes and I'm happy.

I don't care that he is the projected starting MLB. I think he should be booted from the team for evidencing excessive stupidity:
AntonioMorrisonarrestedforbarking
Nick De La Torre | July 21, 2013 | 0 Comments
Antonio Morrison was arrested early Sunday morning for the second time in as many months.
Antonio Morrison was arrested late last night and charged with harassing/interfering with a police animal.
Morrison was out at a club when police were called due to an unrelated incident. Morrison made barking noises at the police dog that was with an officer, causing the dog to start barking as well. The officer became annoyed with the situation and confronted Morrison. Morrison was additionally charged with resisting arrest without violence.
This is the second time that Morrison has been arrested this offseason. Morrison was previously arrested for an incident at a hookah lounge, where he assaulted the bouncer. Morrison received deferred prosecution for that incident, requiring him to pay $100 to the state for court costs, make a $150 donation to CDS Family & Behavioral Services, complete 12 hours of community service, complete a Florida drug and alcohol education program, attend an anger management program, and participate in two hour ride-alongs with UF police. Woof, that’s harsh.
Gatorcountry.com is still waiting to receive the arrest record and will have more on this developing story soon.

Dumbass Morrison Update:
Will Muschamp released a statement through the football team’s twitter saying, “I’m extremely disappointed in Antonio Morrison’s decision making. He has been suspended from the team and will miss at least two games to begin the season.”
My guess is 3 game, Toledo, at Miami, and Tennessee, will be missed.
Reports are Antonio was intoxicated again.
