The thing that jumped out at me as I was checking everything was that Beamon had lettered in '74 as a Frosh (& I thought I remembered the name)...when I didn't see him listed in the AA or All Big Ten, or anything in Jack Park's Encyclopedia, I wondered, so I read all the Team Guides. I joined the Army in Dec, 74 after a rough year. With limited exposure, it was hard to keep up. I was in Germany before the Oklahoma game, & we didn't even get THAT. I think between the time I joined until the time we came back from Germany in summer of '80, I only got to watch about 3-5 OSU games. I'm glad I have you two 'old farts' to add to this general list & countdown... Only so many AA awards to pass around, Eddie got lost in the shuffle. Met him a few times during and after his career at OSU. My M-I-L was in charge of collecting and reporting grades in the ADs office. She saw the name, thought he was a pretty nice guy, He played the 76 season........ Yeah, he lettered all four years...I didn't see anything about his injury in the Encyclopedia... I was surprised he didn't at least make All big Ten, but there was a hell of a lot of talent passing thru Columbus back then...

Would you like me to send you a copy? Not really, but if you have a copy of the SECOND game... Well, I'll be damned...I knew the 2nd game was in Norman, but I didn't realize it was six years later...September 1983...I was close, too...Fort Lost in the Woods, Misery...

Was a 2nd team All Big Ten selection in 1964 as Guard. Was an honor student in Pre-med, and was an Academic All Big Ten Honoree in 65 & 66. Justin Boren, All Big Ten Selection for the Buckeyes in 2009 and 2010 and All Big Ten Honorable mention as a soph at MissedAgain. One of only three men to play for both programs. (Coincidentally, while researching this, I found that J.T. White, another of the three, lettered at Ohio State in Football and Basketball in 1942, was transferred to MissedAgain due to his US Navy commitment and was an AA selection at Center there in 1947. He played on the 1942 and 1947 National Championship teams. To make the story complete, after graduation, he began coaching at his second school under Bennie Oosterbaan, before moving on to Penn State in 1954 under Rip Engle & later, JoePa, as a Defensive Line Coach.) Under normal circumstances, and the way I've chosen to do this, I would next post a pic of Pat Elflein, as an All Big Ten selection in 2014 & 15 as a guard. But as he's decided to return for his redshirt senior year, and for the experience, and good of the team agreed to transfer to Center, he may not get the anticipated All America Selection this year. He has also been selected to serve as Captain this year. So with his time/service/awards being incomplete, I'll present a Three-year letterman, former protégé of Woody who has been in the news recenlty as our third illustration. Rand Hart. Lettered at OSU in 1967, 68, & 69. His write up in the 1969 team guide was; 65--HART, Randy, 21, 6-2, 234, senior...from Willooughby...has been used briefly for two years...was much improved in spring practice...will play behind Cheney on the right side...has gained 15 pounds without affecting his quickness...the only boy in a family of three...a marketing major...hobby is water sports...captained his high school football, wrestling, and track teams... After graduating, he got his start in coaching as a grad assistant for Woody, and recently announce his retirement after coaching for 46 years. www.seattletimes.com/sports/uw-husky-football/longtime-uw-assistant-coach-randy-hart-announces-retirement/

osu has hired ex-kentucky head coach joker phillips as an offensive quality control coach. he coached at uk from 2010-2012, then spent a couple years as an assistant at uf, but was forced to resign after he met with a recruit off-campus during a dead period, which is a ncaa violation. he was a wr coach under mike pettine w/the browns last year. brian knorr has also been hired as a qc assistant coach. he was the head coach at ohio u for 4 years '01-'04. since then he's been an assistant at air force, wake forest and iu last year.

C.................... 1955-57 Wiggins, Larry..................................1972 Williams, David M..................... 1953-54 Jim Lachey, All America selection 1984. Jim Lachey entered his senior season with just four career starts. But in his final year, Lachey established himself as one of the top linemen in all of college football and was named first team All-America. Blessed with unusual speed and strength for a man his size, Lachey played guard for the Buckeyes, but could easily have played tackle. Lachey played a key role in the Ohio State offense in 1984, paving the way for junior running back Keith Byars, who led the nation in rushing (1,764 yards), scoring (24 touchdowns) and in all-purpose running (2,441 yards). In 1995, the San Diego Chargers drafted Lachey, a St. Henry, Ohio, native, with the 12th pick in the first round. In 1991, he started at left tackle for the Super Bowl champion Washington Redskins. In his 11-year NFL career, he was named All-Pro nine times and established himself as one of the game’s top linemen. He was elected to the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999. He is currently the analyst on the Buckeye radio broadcasts. Aurelius Thomas, All America selection 1957. Inducted into CFB HOF in 1989. On offense he played in the line as a blocker. On defense he was a middle guard, sometimes a linebacker. He wasn't big. Only 202 pounds. But Ohio State's Aurealius Thomas played big enough to make the All-America team at guard in 1957. He lacked size but had tremendous technique as a blocker and mobility as a tackler. In his senior year, 1957, he averaged 52 minutes a game in playing time. He was always able to out- manoeuvre opponents who were bigger. After graduation, Thomas taught and coached seven years. In the first year he was an assistant on the Woody Hayes staff at Ohio State. Then he coached East High School in Columbus. His last team at East, in 1964, had a 9-0 record. He left coaching as a winner and started a career with New York Life Insurance. After 16 years, he left to start his own insurance brokerage in Columbus, Ohio. Thomas had a long list of credits for community service - past president, Columbus Recreation Board; adviser, Small Business Group for Southern Ohio; trustee, Ohio State Varsity "0" Association; trustee, Ohio State University Student Loan Foundation; president, Columbus Leadership Conference; volunteer agent, United Negro College Fund. Robert Michael (Mike) Ingram, All Big Ten and Captain selection in 1961. A two year starter who was key in helping quell the near riots after the faculty voted to not send the team to the Rose Bowl: "The picture of a Woody Hayes speaking moderately did not escape the notice of the diehards back in Columbus, who always had looked upon him as their General Patton. By the second day the public demonstrations began to simmer down. They came to a halt when football Co-captain Mike Ingram announced to the crowds through a police loudspeaker, "They're not going to change their minds. We might as well face it. We're not going to the Rose Bowl. Go home before somebody gets hurt." There were a few boos, whereupon husky Linebacker Ingram pulled out his last stop. "The team did all the damn work!" he said. "If they can accept the decision, you certainly can. You college kids leave and let the police pick up the high school kids hanging around." Telephone calls excepted, that was the end of anarchy in Columbus." Others listed above deserving of more note: Bill Lukens, All Big Ten and Captain selection in 1976. Father of the Lukens who was a walk on in 2004. Bill Conley, two year letterman who turned to coaching and just left the HC position at Ohio Dominican.

What a remarkable story. Coming out of Massilon to START for Woody Hayes as a freshman in 1951, Reichenbach had the distinction of blocking for Vic Janowicz as a freshman and Hop Cassady as a senior. He coached briefly for Lee Tressel at Baldwin Wallace before returning to his roots and becoming a legend in NE Ohio/Stark County High School coaching annals. During all that time, until his death in 2009, he continued to farm his 125 acre family farm. He touched many lives and prepared boys to become men, including Dan Dierdorf. He was inducted into the Stark County HS Football HOF in 2005. Michael Bennett, All America an Captain selection in 2014. Hasn't been gone from Columbus to have much of a story, but based upon him coming out of Centerville, & his actions and achievements while at Ohio State, you have to think he's going to go forth and do great and glorious things...Pay it Forward. Doug Adams, a three-year starter and All Big Ten LB in 1969 and team captain in 1970. Went on to play four years in the NFL, and then returned to Ohio State and the School of Dentistry. Tragically killed in 1997 while bicycling early one morning and was hit and killed by a 3rd shift worker who fell asleep while on his way home after work. He was just 48 years old. The Xenia High School Fitness Center and the football team's MVP award are named after him. Also noteworthy from the above list is Kirk Lowdermilk, All Big Ten selection & captain in 1984 and Ernie Wright, who was drafted by former Buckeye Sid Gillman and was one of the original Los Angeles Chargers. He was one of only 20 men to play all 10 years of the AFL's existence. He died of cancer in 2007.
