just got to campus. absolutely gorgeous fall day. sunny w 55 at kickofff and low 60s by 2nd half.
there’s nothing worse after a tough loss than having a bye week for that disappointment to linger. I expect unl to be motivated after being embarrassed at iu.
just heard ransom is out at safety. he’s been a solid presence but just can’t stay healthy. hoping that’s short term. simmons is out for season and kacmarek also got hurt early vs uo and won’t play today. interested to see how we managed those hurdles.
would love to see the running game get more established all 4 qtrs especially if judkins’ hand injury is healed up. and the d-line needs to make its presence known for 60 min. going w/49-10. o… h…

O-Line has no push today. cant turn a 3rd and 1 into a first down my god the offense has been non existent. I predicted 49 pts.. so far in the 2nd half we have 16 total yds, 0 1st downs. d has been on the field for most of the last 20:00. down 17-14, time to reverse that trend.

Watched most of the game at Garth's new place in Nashville. Table next us had Nebraska gear on. They were a little more disappointed than I was. Win and move on...

the view from 24-bbox...
well, after another slow start out of the gate (possessions starting at the unl 35 then at the 50 produced no points. next possession inside the tosu 10 ends up w/a td. lol), I thought the 2nd qtr was paving the way for a comfortable win. beautiful pass by howard to smith right down the middle for about 60 yds and a td about midway thru the period. you get a 3 and out from a defense that had played real well to that point, bucks drive to about the 25 but stall out and miss a fg.
instead, the huskers drill a 50+ yd fg to make it 14-6, and the entire game seemed to flip. bucks had no push across the o-line and seemed allergic to continue quick pitches that really seemed to generate the only yards our backs had (the strength of uni's team is their d-line. why??? is it a ploy to not show psu anything???). I'm pretty sure we had only 16 yards of total offense in the next 20 minute, and I know we had neither any points nor any 1st downs. had it not been for a solid performance by the d, including a fantastic goal line stand, and raiola missing 2 wide open receivers in the end zone in the 2nd, this would've been a massive upset.
to the bucks' credit, after nebraska took the 17-14 lead in the 4th, the offense awakens w/its best (really, the only) drive of the day. that's 45 straight wins over non-ranked opponents. that the best in the country right now, and that's a good thing. losses to the Iowa's, purdue;'s and nebraska's have a tendency to negate the power of wins over the ranked folks. that said, the o-line which began the season both having a couple questions marks and having very little depth, is hurting. simmons being lost for the season is huge. his replacement, zen michalski, struggled from the get-go in his 1st ever start, but you had to figure there was at least a chance of a more stabilized performance in start #2 had he not gotten hurt in the 2nd half. it took him 3-4 minutes to slowly walk off the field... that didn't look good.
moving jackson over to tackle and inserting montgomery at guard helped, but now going on the road to another extremely hostile environment vs a very good nitt front 7 is not an optimum combination. if te will kacmarek (imho our best blocking te) remains out for next week, the run game becomes an even bigger question mark. and in order to maximize the strength of this team, our wr's, you need henderson and judkins to be effective.
I expect the offense to be a little more dynamic saturday in state college. to make december madness (ha), survive and advance.

yeah I saw that clip at halftime of the sunday night game last night. tressel used to call those 'teachable moments', but on a nfl level? not only was the game not over... he was back near the end zone because the entire planet knew the ball was going that direction and he's not even paying attention w/his back turned seconds AFTER the snap? wow. talk about a bad look...
