Gee ............. I wonder why. And look! CALIFORNIA is #2 in most gun sales! Looks like Californians are fed up with their tyrannical gov't. Texas is obviously #1 because of the failed Bitem/Harris Invasion of the Illegals. The Border Patrol and Texas DPS can't stop them alone.

If you are ready to become a smart American and buy a gun, buy it with CASH. It shouldn't be too hard to find a place that will give you a signature loan for $1500, which is more than enough to buy a good gun and ammunition to start with.
Hell, Taurus makes very good 9MM semiauto pistols suitable for self-defense and recreational shooting for around $300. I own 2 of those Taurus pistols, and I guarantee they are all you NEED. Yes, you can spend more if you want to, but if you are cash strapped, you don't need to spend more on a "name" I own two "name brand" striker fired pistols, too, and I will match the Taurus guns with them any day. The Taurus pistols are actually better, because they have second strike capability, and their trigger pulls are lighter than the "name" guns.

What's your other "name" striker besides the G36?

What's your other "name" striker besides the G36? I don't own a G36. I had to look it up to even know what it is. I own a G30SF and a G19. Glocks are the original plastic fantastics, and everybody else, including Taurus, is simply riding their coattails as far as innovation goes.
My Taruses are the G3 and G3c. The only advantage the Glocks have over them is a tactile loaded chamber indicator that is actually useful, even in total darkness. IF you need them, the Tauruses are also equipped with 1911 style safeties, which I find redundant.
Certainly, anyone can buy anything he wants, but not everyone can afford big bucks. A Toyota will get you the same places that a Mercedes can, and a criminal isn't interested in the brand of gun you shoot him with, if necessary.

If I was to get a 9mm Glock the G45 is at the top of the list.

If I was to get a 9mm Glock the G45 is at the top of the list. I don't see the need for the longer, less concealable grip of the G45. If you can't do the job with 16 9MM's from a G19, you don't need to waste 2 more rounds.
I'm still completely comfortable with my 6 shot Colt Agent, stoked with Buffalo Bore .38+P 158 gr, LSWCHP. Admittedly it is no fun to shoot, but you don't shoot costly Buffalo Bore ammo for fun. The Colt has an aluminum alloy frame, and a steady diet of +P's would not be good for it. When I shoot it, I normally use gentle .38 wadcutters. It's a fun gun now.

Heck, my std. carry is a P220 and that's a full size pistol in every way. Conceals just fine.

I doubt I'll buy another Glock - never liked them very much and that mush trigger sucks compared to my Sigs. Having said that, I love my G20SF, but then again I've tricked out the trigger system so it's not the standard heavy mush. I never carry it and and it's strictly a range gun but if I ever do need a woods gun that would be the one. Not much chance of needing a woods gun around here though so it's the P220 or Sig Pro as my two carries.

My advice was intended for new gun owners who are just starting out, and for people who have the 2A right, but shouldn't be denied it because of a gun's price. If the only thing a ghetto mom can afford is a Hi-Point, then that is better than nothing to protect herself and her family.
Truth be told, I'd recommend a nice DA .38 revolver for new shooters over any semiauto. Revolvers are much easier and simpler to operate. Easier to check for loaded condition, and nothing to operate but the trigger, if you need to use it.
Nowadays, I'd rather spend the big bucks on a quality pre-1990 S&W DA revolver than any semiauto pistol. Revolvers are precision instruments that can't be thrown together by trained monkeys like semiautos can, and S&W DA's are the cream of the crop.. The older Colts are just as good, but with Col, you are paying for the NAME.
Colt just reintroduced a blued Python that is not as good as the original and has an MSRP of $1600. Nope, I will NOT be buying one. I love the Python look, but I love my $1600 even more. My 1980's 6" Model 686 looks every bit as good (brand new, actually) and was only $850.

Put them in a stressful shooting situation and you have a recipe for disaster.

I might be prejudiced, since the first handguns I shot were a Webley Mk VI DA revolver in .455, using .45ACP ammo in half-moon clips, and a Ruger Single Six SA .22. My older brother also owned a Browning H-Power in 9mm, but I don't know if I ever actually shot it. A revolver isn't affected by limp-wristing, either.

All manner of malfunctions are possible with a pistol that are completely absent with a revolver. And then there's the maintenance and lubrication upkeep that goes along with a pistol. Nothing is more simple and maintenance-free than a revolver by comparison.
