he was the coach of usc in my first trip west to pasadena, and always thought there might not have been a better coach who followed a cfb legend than robinson, who had been an off coord. to head coach for John mckay, left for a year or two to join john madden in oakland before returning to l.a. when mckay moved on to tampa bay/nfl. the trojans just kept on winning rose bowls and mnc's before he went to the rams and was successful there too. always thought he had a cool presence during that golden era for southern cal. r-i-p.

Robinson was one of the standout names I will always associate with USC. I certainly don't know him like USC fans do, but I always saw him as a good guy. RIP, Coach

RIP, Coach Not quite sure why he was there, but his obit says he died in Baton Rouge. Robinson was probably one of the last 'run first' coaches in college football. He never coached a losing season at USC, IIRC, was OC for two NC teams, and HC for another and won a bunch of Bowl games.

I thought he and ed orgeron were friends... maybe they were hanging out at the time...

He had worked at LSU as a consultant to Ed Orgeron, and maybe after Ed left, Robinson decided he liked it here and stayed.
I really don't know.

Could very well be. JR did look like a guy who liked to eat, and I'm certain he wouldn't have any trouble finding good food there.

He definitely made his mark.
Unfortunately his career had the success of the Chinese space program.
FTR, we still growl out "GO TIGAHS!"
