No, cops are NOT bastards, but this incident was very badly played.

The Fire Chief on scene failed to tell the firefighters to spray the shit out of the dogs with their high pressure hoses.

He failed to tell the deputies that no human life was at risk inside the house.

The deputies failed to ask if any human life was at risk.
They failed to take into account that the dogs were not acting in an aggressive manner.
It appears the deputies failed to actually FIRE their tasers at the dogs.
The deputies failed to use a non-lethal impact weapon (bean bag gun) if they had one.

The deputies laughing about shooting the dogs and killing one, knowing they were being recorded, was in VERY bad taste.

That one dead dog is going to cost the county a LOT of money, and if those two had been MY deputies, they would be looking for jobs as plumbers, truck drivers, or janitors somewhere.

That fire truck is a big basically armored vehicle that could have safely driven right past the dogs.
The police cars are dog-proof too, with the windows rolled up.  The cars could ridden herd on the dogs while the firemen did their thing, and their turnout gear most likely would have protected them if a dog DID try to take a chunk out of one of them.

This was a total 100% clusterfiick.

The Sheriff is a dork for trying to minimize the fiickup, too.
