Man up? Lmao! BAMA will leave the state for an OOC game for the 7th year in a row next season. What about the gators? Besides that little fact BAMA plays tennessee every season. The vols are still the second winningest program in the SEC behind BAMA, despite their current down period. The gators are not a rival game for the Tide and I wouldn't be surprised if Butch Jones doesn't bring tennessee back to being a huge game on the third Saturday in September well before Will Muschamp can lead florida to their first BCS bowl win since the 2009 season. (Maybe even against someone outside the defunct Big East) ua-ut is the 3rd Saturday of October annually, isn't it? welcome back btw. mark scott tosu 81 Thanks Mark..... Yes BAMA vs tennessee is referred to as "The Third Saturday in October" around these parts, even though that rivalry is rarely still played on that particular weekend. The 3rd Saturday in October rivalry was big long before the Iron Bowl or The Worlds Largest Cocktail Party rivalries became well known. That's why BAMA fans hate the thought of giving it up.

Nick Saban released BAMA's depth chart yesterday and I only saw one surprise. No Kenyan Drake. KD was widely believed to have been the number two RB behind TJ Yeldon this year but he's not even discussed in the Tide's top 5 suddenly. Clearly he's in Saban's doghouse for some reason. Suddenly the three hundred RB's BAMA recruited makes sense....
Note to BAMA's RBs: Don't so much as sneeze. You will be replaced immediately.

McCarron in a walking boot because of an ingrown toenail? Talk about gamesmanship.
I would think he would ask his coaches not to make him look soft by wearing a boot on such a minor injury, though. A bit extreme, no?

Not BAMA's best game last night but I'm ok with it. The OL will gel and the starters will take root. I was worried about how focused the team would be with A&M on the horizon and it appears I had good reason. The BAMA defense was impressive. They gave up one huge, uncharacteristic 76 yard rushing TD but then they very characteristically shut the VT offense down afterwards. Keep in mind that the Hokie QB will be playing on Sundays.
Saban certainly has plenty of ammo to use at practice over the next two weeks, and I wouldn't want to be on the other end of his gun. I fully expect to see a very, very fired up, physical BAMA team to take the field in College Station on September 14th. If that doesn't happen there will absolutely be no more talk of any three-peat. I predict it'll happen.

Keep in mind that the Hokie QB will be playing on Sundays. Probably correct............but none of those receivers will. And they won the game for Bama

And they won the game for Bama Actually special teams and defense won it for BAMA. The VT WR's just kept it from being a close game. BAMA's WR's had a couple of drops as well. The story of the game was poor OL play by the Tide. Pitiful. I expect more out of that unit and I expect it quickly. I'm hoping that this VT team is the real deal.

Special teams and defense is UF's formula. While it got us a tie for the best record in the SEC last season at 7-1, it didn't get UF into the SECCG. My guess is aTm or LSU will be in ATL this year even with bama's weak conference schedule of not playing any of the SEC East top 3 teams for a second year in a row. Bama says salute! to the SEC scheduler who happens to be a tide alumnus.
The mistake you made coming in was thinking bama could replace the three OL in terms of ability, experience, and chemistry. Having two weeks to get ready for aTm won't matter. The tide is going down in College Station. VT isn't the real deal. It's eye opening for bama to get less than 100 yards rushing. AJ McCarron won't be able to withstand the beating he's going to take behind this OL.
It didn't show on defense yet, but I still think bama will prove to be a bit off on the defensive line from last year as well.
To sum, bama's run at a 3peat isn't going to happen. There's a reason why it's never happened before. A team can reload in talent, but experience and chemistry has to be developed over time. Bama has an outstanding team, just not a national championship team.
So it has been written, so let it be done. (G)

(G) To all of those who are suddenly so giddy about BAMA only beating VT by 25 points.... * This game was never in question for BAMA. Saban had some things he wanted to do and some new players he wanted to play. This game was approached like a scrimmage. Had it become necessary the game plan would have changed. It was never necessary. The Hokies played a 4-6 defense with a blitz for almost the entire game. If you don't think BAMA would have gone to screens and quick slants to beat that aggressive rush then you haven't watched very much BAMA football. Saban had a game plan that was based on the likelihood that this loaded Tide squad could afford to get some practice in without showing A&M too much. He did the exact thing against Western Kentucky last year and everybody said then that the Tide's OL was in trouble. Had it been necessary to abort the game plan then the game plan would have been aborted. Instead what we saw was a team that stuck with it's same game plan regardless of what the other team was lined up in. I can assure you that AJ is perfectly capable of checking out of a play and that the Tide coaches know how to make adjustments when the need to. They didn't need to and instead were able to stick with exactly the plays they wanted to run from the start.

Less than a 100 yards rushing is not part of Nick Saban's game plan, ever.
35-10 looks great until you realize bama's offensive problems on the OL. Take away the two ST scoring plays and the game is 21-10, not impressive.
LSU had the OL problems last year that the tide has this year. LSU came in over ranked in 12 like bama is over ranked in 13.
Look for the tide to get one loss for sure and possibly two. Maybe a loss at Auburn as they will be better than you think come the end of the season.
On the other hand, bama could win every game with less than 100 yards rushing if they win the turnover battle.
Honestly, I think UF and USC are more bama-like than bama this season.

It should be noted that BAMA scored a rushing TD, a passing TD,a defensive TD, a TD from the punt return team, and a TD off the kickoff return team. Pretty well-rounded if you ask me. IOW it was a nice scrimmage for the Tide team.

All I can really say is that Saban's job certainly got a lot easier as far as keeping the players grounded goes.

I also think its nice not hearing all of the talking heads not harping about how great BAMA is and how bad they're going to punish A&M in two weeks. The 2010 BAMA players heard all of that hype every week and forgot that they actually had to show up ready to play. I'm sure the same goes for the Buckeye players after going 12-0.
