www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24449174/report-phillies-turn-unsigned-draft-pick-in-to-ncaa-for-using-an-agentso the philadelphia phillies drafted a pitcher from oregon state in the 5th round. the player declined to sign with the phillies, opting to return for his senior season at oregon state. before he decided to return to school, he had hired an agent as sort of an informal advisor while negotiating with the phillies. with so much money at stake, it's not a surprise that a 20 year old would want an expert dealing with the phillies. but b/c the ncaa has a bunch of ridiculous, immoral, despicable rules, a player is not allowed to be in contact with an agent and keep his eligibility if he chooses not to sign. it's a rule that makes zero sense at any level. why should a player no longer be considered an amateur if he decides to remain at school after hiring an agent to negotiate with a pro team after being drafted? where is the slippery slope if no money was made? well anyway, b/c the rule is so illogical, no one really follows it. and it's an open secret that many drafted players hire agents to negotiate, even if they decided to return to school later on and not sign with the pro team. no one really gets in trouble for it. but the phillies for really dick reasons, decided to inform the ncaa and the player has been indefinitely suspended, although he is appealing the ruling. the ncaa looks dumb yet again. the phillies look like childish pricks. and the star player is unfairly punished.

Had a good one at OU the other day as well. Seems that 3 juniors attending the Senior Banquet in 2013 were served a ate a disallowed amount of pasta (they got seconds) so they were ordered to pay $3.83 to charity to remain eligible this season. You can't make this shit up.

This is an NCAA rule that has never made sense to me. You would think they would want these young kids to get professional advice on such a big decision. Miami linebacker about 15 or so years ago, Nate Webster, declared for the draft, hired an agent and then had a change of heart and decided to return for school his senior year. Same story, the NCAA said that since he had hired an agent he was now a pro and he could return to school but he would be ineligible for football. He eventually decided not to fight the ruling and went into the draft.
