I don't want to get into the best of all time thing since you never know for sure who worked out and who didn't until until 2nd or 3rd year, but Alabama has the head and shoulders best class in the nation in 2021. Congrats, another masterful job by Nick Saban who gets more out of more, unlike Kirby Smart who gets less out of more. Looks like 5 star S Terrion Arnold out of Tallahassee will sign with Alabama this afternoon. This must have been well known for a time now as Arnold was upgraded from 4 stars to 5 stars recently on 247 Sports. Dan Mullen tried his best to get Arnold to sign with Florida in December. When that didn't happen, Mullen gave his ship to a transfer portal player at a position of need for 2021, one of the graduate transfer DTs coming in to shore up the DL in 2021. One message sent loud and clear to rising high school seniors who are interested in Florida is that you had best take your seat on Florida Jet Airlines in December during the 3 day ESP if you want to guarantee yourself a ship at Florida. Dan Mullen is the King of the transfer portal and Florida is TPU - Transfer Portal U. Well done Dan Mullen, well done! The transfer portal has basically added free agency to college football

Dan Mullen is the King of the transfer portal and Florida is TPU - Transfer Portal U. Well done Dan Mullen, well done! The transfer portal has basically added free agency to college football Yes, but the NCAA is being more liberal with their decisions on transfers due to the China Virus. When back to normal, graduate transfers play immediately, undergraduate transfers have to sit a year or get an NCAA waiver, and SEC to SEC transfers have to have an additional SEC waiver to avoid sitting out a year. It's free agency except with rules. Also, anytime the NCAA is involved, it's a waiver crap shoot. Me? I want to see a permanent blanket waiver for first time only transfers in all sports. It's a one-time only free pass to transfer. I'm thinking the only way to get this is for the P5 to break with the NCAA and make their own rules. Some other top programs using transfers in 2021: Oklahoma - 5 Southern California - 4 Think this transfer thing has caught on. Like Florida, their 2021 recruiting class rankings don't reflect their use of the transfer portal. Florida, Oklahoma, and Southern California should all be solid mid top 10 for 2021 recruiting. The recruiting services aren't keeping up with the times.

Lost in all of this, if they are using the TP, not the other one available to graduate transfers (ie Russell Wilson), is they are transferring for a reason. In some cases they couldn't beat out 1, 2 or 3 guys for PT. 4*-5* in HS sometimes doesn't always translate to 1st/2nd team at the Big Time schools and conf and Fl/SEC is big time. Or they couldn't make the transition from BMOC to a participative key to success involving many. Not much different than assuming a backup will step it up without an impact when an injury occurs. He was a backup for a reason. Though that sometimes works out, many times you are just plugging a hole to get through it. Passionate fans don't always see either.
FTWIW, I don't blame the youngens. They just want to play and if they can't physically or psychology, they move on and should. Maybe it works out for them, maybe not.

Florida has attracted five 5 star players through the transfer portal, two in 2021. When Dan Mullen brings them in, they usually perform at a high level. Me? I would like to see an NCAA blanket eligibility waiver for all first-time transfers only regardless of reason. Any future transfers would need the appropriate NCAA and conference waivers or the player would have to sit a year as they do now. Graduate transfers would be the exception in that once they have graduated, they can do whatever they want to do insofar as playing and where to play is concerned even if they have transferred previously in their college career.

Don't disagree with one caveat. If the coach leaves, all bets are off. You can't recruit me and then bail and make me sit a year when you did not have to. If the coach leaves, the portal opens for the entire team, IMO; all can move.

If the coach leaves, the portal opens for the entire team, IMO; all can move. I'm thinking that the one-time blanket transfer plus the graduate transfer will cover a very high percentage of moves including coaches moving around. Just to clarify what you are saying, it is the head coach you are referring to and only that team gets the waiver to move or stay. If so, I agree with a standalone rule for head coaches leaving. I would not agree with position coaches and coordinators who move around more frequently. Moving program to program is not the only option. When Steve Spurrier came onboard with Florida in 1990, it was a third new system to learn for Emmitt Smith. Instead of staying, he knew he had the ability to bolt to the NFL after his junior year so he did. The rest is history, the leading rusher in NFL history. Very few head coaches leave a team after a year or two, most are 3, 4, 5 and longer. Contracts hold the head coaches and the programs pretty well. The last P5 head coach I recall leaving after a year was Lane Kiffen when he dumped Tennessee for Southern California.

Until just a few years ago NCAA transfer restrictions basically locked a "student-athlete" to the college he first attended, yet coaches could leave and move at will. It was much like the old Major League baseball system where no player could move unless their current team traded them. I would like to see a team be able to tell their HC (and the school that wants him) that if he leaves and takes that new job he and his new school must pay back the entire salary of the remainder of his contract, and that of all assistant coaches. That payback should include all the endorsements and fringe benefits the coach received for the job. A coaches base salary is about 30% of what he actually receives.

UF signed 10 recruits with a team average of right at 90. Given the coaching change and timing of same with Billy Napier not reporting for duty until after ULL's CCG, this isn't bad. Two 5 stars signed with UF yesterday.
Thankfully, ESP is not the end all be all and won't be over until tomorrow (Friday). Napier has a high 3-star OL waiting to sign, but he hasn't met with Napier yet. Napier said at his presser yesterday that his approach to the 2022 recruiting class is one day and one player at a time. By the time February NSD rolls around, UF should be okay even if not a whole class.
Slots not filled with high schoolers have until July 1 to be filled with transfer portal players. Players transferring have until either March 1 or March 31 to announce their intent to transfer, can't remember the date. UF has players transferring out which is not a surprise with the coaching change, but the transfer portal giveth and taketh away.
I feel for QB Emory Jones as he is transferring out after the bowl game, but his lack of performance was his own undoing. Yes, UF plays a bowl game in Tampa against UCF that I have no interest in watching. I have set an over/under of 4 for QB turnovers that result in short field scores or pick 6s. If Jones gets injured, a true freshman who hasn't played a down all year will be taking the snaps. Anthony Richardson had his knee scoped and is reportedly missing the bowl game. Shame as UCF is going to play the game like the Super Bowl for Florida. Gus Malzahn must be salivating at his chance to embarrass the Gators. UF at best has a punchers chance to win the game.
Beyond the above, Napier will have a year to put together his 2023 class which should fill in any blanks. All of UF's student athlete facilities upgrades have been completed so he will have all of the advantages he needs and support from the university to get football back on track sooner rather than later. JMHO, I don't see the UF situation as a longer-term rebuild. I expect 22 to be down, but the Gators will be back on the prowl again for the 23 season. The team maybe will not be championship level but should be good.
Okay, this is a little recruiting and a little football. Sue me.

It was ironic that the commercial after that shoe throwing incident was the Goodyear flying boot commercial. It was also funny that you stated Mullen had recruited his best class last year. This was to be the year for Mullen to beat Georgia, win the SEC, and make the playoff. Florida instead is barely bowl-eligible at 6-6 and went 2-6 in the SEC, and Mullen is looking for a job. Maybe Vanderbilt will hire him as OC for a season. The "QB Whisperer" and "Offensive Guru" couldn't even coach up a QB that has been on the roster for four years. Starting an unprepared AR15 in the Georgia-Florida game was a disaster for the Gators, and he did so simply because the fans wanted it. As for those 5*s he got through the transfer portal, they rarely played out. I told you Brenton Cox would be less that you thought he would be. He took more plays off than on, which is the reason he was kicked down to 3rd string at Georgia. He resisted all efforts from coaches and teammates to step up, so he was dropped down by the coaches.

He resisted all efforts from coaches and teammates to step up, so he was dropped down by the coaches.Mullen made poor decisions leading into the LSU game in giving players rest instead of taking the game seriously. I'd only disagree to say that Mullen quit coaching and recruiting after the 52-46 SECCG loss to bama. He has never been close to the same since that loss. JMO, I think Mullen had hopes/plans to join Meyer in Jacksonville. If so, that is out the window now. Urban Meyer was fired today after his 2-12 season to date. His coaches, players, and management did not take to Meyer's style. It's why I had Meyer at the top of my list for UF to approach before Billy Napier was focused on and hired. Insofar as Billy Napier is concerned, I'm taking a show me attitude. Just do it! My concern is his 43:57 pass to run ratio over his 4 seasons with ULL. His 2021 team had a 31.9 scoring average. To compete at the highest levels of the SEC and nationally, his teams will have to produce another TD more per game. Florida fans like high scoring offenses, good top 10-20 defenses, and the opportunity to compete regularly for championships. 31.9 will win a lot of games but will only play it close with losses in the biggest games. That's unacceptable and I hope he knows it from the get-go. Napier will have to open it up more at UF than he did at ULL. If he doesn't, he'll be another 3-to-4-year failed UF coach. I am sick and tired of that after 10 years of failed coaches just muddling through their jobs with UF. Again, just do it!
