Colts just finished off an 8:00 drive in the 4th qtr w a fg to go up 24-13. Denver fans have been booing the offense and manning since the 2nd qtr. this would be a shocker. Shaping up to be a Seattle-new England super bowl. That's what most fans not connected w teams still in it want. Don't see a gimpy Rodgers being able to beat the Seahawks defense, and there's no way the colts knock off the pats.

Peyton didn't seem to be able to go downfield with any regularity or accuracy or zip. None of us can beat Father Time, the only variable is when we finally lose. Manning career has been spectacular, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was it.

Agree, if you consider the high level he played at for so many years. Maybe the highest ever. The problem is, even at a lower performance level, he's still better than many. He may be tempted at X million per year to carry on. His mind sees the opening but his fast ball and timing have dissipated. The issue after this year will be losses to FA in Denver and the effects of any coaching changes. The question then becomes whether Manning will consider continuing to play at Denver knowing that playing in the playoffs is as good as it going to get. But in the final, he did have a very good yr, as did Denver. It was a competitive game, where a break or two could have changed the outcome, roll of the oblong ball what.
In today's NFL you have to be able to move around some and he's pretty much stationary. Plus the openings on some of the throws needed is so small today, you gotta have an accurate fast ball in the playoffs. But he's still a top 5 QB during the reg season. So we'll see. But Elway better make plans. It could fall off even more, quickly. I remember watching John U at SD and Namath at LA. It wasn't pretty.

I agree that his future is uncertain...even though he has played 17 yrs in the NFL and is certain HOF bound, there ARE teams out there that will sign him in a NY minute....the thing is (like Favre) he already has enuff money and championship rings....He doesn't need to prove anything....He could sign with FOX Sports temari and be broadcasting this fall....It'll be interesting to see if he will go quietly into that good night......

I am reminded of a story about Mickey Mantle. Once he was standing in a hotel with large front window, leaning on it during a sever rain storm. Rain beating on the windows. A reporter standing near by asked another what he was doing? Applause said the other. They all miss the applause. We all miss the applause.

I would love to have him as my OC if I was HC, GM, or owner. Can you imagine with his game savy & knowledge?

Yes, their natural ability sometimes makes it hard for them to deal with mere mortals at their position. I don't know that I'd want Peyton trying to coach my QBs, but sitting up there in the box, watching what's going on ON the field & calling plays & setting up the defense....oh, BABY... : )

Agreed....His ability to read defenses, presence in the pocket, etc. are invaluable BUT I think that MOST of that comes with experience (although QB coaches are certainly required for success) and is not a given that itza natural talent....Tebow is proof of that.....

WORST COACH EVER.

Good thread, fellas.
My observation is that something happened to Manning during the past few weeks. I know that he took some hard shots in the Denver- St. Louis game. The Broncos ended up losing that game to the Rams, and scored only 7 points. And this was a Denver offense that had been breaking records-- especially prior to last year's disastrous Super Bowl.
The Broncos' offense had some injuries-- Monte Ball, Julius Thomas, and their center-- but Peyton Manning was not playing like Peyton Manning lately. He is not a complainer, but did mention that he really needed the BYE in the playoffs last week.
He has two years left on his contract in Denver. Don't know if he'll come back or not-- but there's only so much pounding by 350 lb. defensive linemen a guy can take in one lifetime.

The story is he has had a torn quad for the last month.
