A good punter can win a game. The last time FSU beat Wisconsin...2008 Champs Sports Bowl. MVP? Punter Graham Gano. 3 punts killed inside the 3. A fourth punt (58 yards), returned 3 yards to the 7. He also performed a marvelous acting job on a roughing penalty. Only bowl game MVP given to a punter that I know of... I punted for a bit, I agree. They are important. But when I looked at the list of all punters the highest rating was only a three star. And I admit I have no idea how many arrive at those star ratings for any player. But given the importance of punters.................... While I loved Madison and am glad the kid is coming, he's from GA. They must grow punters on trees in the South or there isn't much difference between the 2nd ranked punter in the country and #25. And kicking at 80 deg is a hell of a lot easier than kicking in 30 deg. Unless you deflate it a bit.
In HS FB coach gives me a half dozen FBs to use over the summer and tells me to become a world class punter, Told me I had the leg and body for it and to figure it out. Loving the beach and living close to Lake Michigan, I played golf early AM (.25/round) as the GC was next to the beach, then headed to the beach to practice punting. Ball doesn't roll a long way on sand. Then ran the cliffs that rose from the beach. Unfortunately I practiced kicking all summer barefoot and come fall couldn't kick it 50 yrds w FB shoes. But bf they would launch. Unfortunately they wouldn't let you kick in HS w/o shoes. Coach was understandably pissed at me. He tried to sneak me in the first game wearing a black sock. I launched it, turned the field around, the other coach complained and my punting career was over in HS. Don't get hooked on stars when looking at kickers. The best punters and place kickers are usually given 3 stars by the recruiting services.

Well I did wear a sock when it got cold.

One guys opinion on Bovada's odds. I'd bet the under, if I had to, for entertainment purposes only. I think they go 11-1, unless they stink up another, then Bovada's right. Can't see them losing more than two in the reg season. Plus the rest of CFB odds at the bottomwww.buckys5thquarter.com/2015/7/2/8886863/wisconsin-football-odds-over-under-2015Bovada has come out with early over/under win totals for the 2015 college football season and they expect the Wisconsin Badgers to win 10 regular-season games on the season. On the surface, that seems like a real good line if you're one of those who is so inclined to engage in entertainment purposes. But let's break it down game by game. See if there's entertainment to be made here. Sept. 5: Wisconsin vs. AlabamaThe Badgers are double-digit underdogs going into this game, and let's be honest: the Badgers are probably going to lose this one. I hope you sat down for that. I don't want the probability that the Badgers lose to have hurt you, but they are likely going to lose. Sept. 12: Miami (Ohio) vs. WisconsinIf you've come through the fainting of Wisconsin probably losing to Alabama, stay on the ground. The Badgers are going to win this game. It may seem shocking, but they will. Sept. 19: Troy vs. WisconsinPlease. The Badgers are going to beat one guy or a Sun Belt team on the rebuild. I'm bad at research. Sept. 26: Hawaii vs. WisconsinThe Badgers will win three games in September, even if they don't win four. Oct. 3: Iowa vs. WisconsinIowa does tend to play Wisconsin with its best effort, but the Badgers have won the last three against the Hawkeyes -- all in Iowa city. Oct. 10: Wisconsin vs. NebraskaNow even when the Badgers have had to travel to Lincoln, they have played well. I don't see there being any sort of hashtagging, record-breaking onslaught; heck, the Badgers might not even win. This is a definite sort of toss-up. Winnable, but not beyond any sort of margin of error. Oct. 17: Purdue vs. WisconsinThe Boilermakers are not nearly far enough away from Purdon't to win at Camp Randall yet. Oct. 24: Wisconsin vs. IllinoisIn a heart-stopping upset, the Badgers don't have a weird quarter that makes the game closer than what it really was. Badgers win, because Tim Beckman's still coaching Illinois. Oct. 31: Rutgers vs. WisconsinThis isn't basketball. The Badgers will have a raucous victory and the students will celebrate Halloween the only way they know how: going door to door and taking donations for UNICEF. Nov. 7: Wisconsin at MarylandThis isn't basketball. Randy Edsall is 4-12 in November as Maryland's coach. Point of face: a more interesting over/under is probably going to be how many Maryland commenters are going to get banned in the run up to the college basketball game this year vs. how many wins Randy Edsall will have in November because this one is a Badgers "W." Nov. 21: Northwestern vs. WisconsinNorthwestern has been pretty trappy when Wisconsin has had to travel to Evanston. At Camp Randall, the Badgers have tended to punch Northwestern in the mouth with football excellence. This game is in Camp Randall. The Badgers are likely to win. Nov. 28: Wisconsin vs. MinnesotaAs it stands, this is likely Minnesota's best chance to take Wisconsin down for a while. That said, the Gophers have a few big questions that make this a game that the Badgers can win. They still struggle passing and their top threat, tight end Maxx Williams, has gone to the pros. They'll play it tough, but this is definitely winnable. ★★★ So, where does that leave you? A likely loss at Alabama, a toss-up road game with Nebraska and two tough games against Iowa and at Minnesota. If everything breaks well, and the Badgers do what's expected on paper, Bovada set the line perfectly as this would be a 10-2 team. But the money line on this preseason win total does favor the under. I do tend to agree that if we're betting now, being conservative is the fair way to go. Upsets happen, injuries happen and the Badgers have had a tendency to have a tendency to leave a game a loss that easily should have been a win. So, long story short: the house does always win, but if you dare to have entertainment purposes, I'd slightly lean under. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Team Bovada Win Over/Under

Just curious as to the BIG scheduling so that Wisconsin doesn't play any of Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, or Penn State? It looks like a lite BIG schedule to me. The badgers should win all of those BIG games with Nebraska as a toss up. Miami of Ohio, Troy, and Hawaii aren't going to scare anybody either. It looks like 11-1 at best and 10-2 at worst. That is an over/under at 10.5.
Florida at 7.5 over/under is higher than the 7 over/under that I've been predicting. I think the bottom line is there are so many unknowns in Gator Country that nobody can accurately predict UF this season.

Cross over scheduling and ya Wisky caught it lite for a cpl of yrs while they absorbed the new teams. They picked up Rootgers and Marieland and missed MSU, Meat, tOSU & Puss-U. Though they should get tOSU in the benefit game.
In '16 they get @meat, @msu, tOSU@the Camp, to go along w LSU@Lambeau and the normal W div fare. '17 is back to an easier plate when they only have Meat to go along w the W Div teams and a crappy preseason. Though they will travel to Fla to play the Bulls. <shrug> Good recruiting trip game.

Trio of Badgers named to Maxwell, Bednarik watch lists Clement, Biegel and Caputo up for top college football honors July 7, 2015 On the Web: go.wisc.edu/wg5dkdMADISON, Wis. — Three Badgers who hope to take the college football world by storm this season are among the preseason leaders for a pair of major national awards. Junior RB Corey Clement was named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award, while junior OLB Vince Biegel and senior S Michael Caputo are among the candidates for the Bednarik Award, the Maxwell Football Club announced Tuesday. Clement was one of 80 players named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award, which is presented annually to the outstanding player in college football. He returns for his junior season seeking to join former Badger Ron Dayne, who claimed the Maxwell Award in 1999. One of 12 Big Ten players named to the Maxwell Award list, Clement is also among 35 running backs who enter the season vying for the award. The Glassboro, New Jersey, native returns as one of the top running backs after combining with Melvin Gordon to set a single-season FBS record for rushing yards by teammates with 3,536 yards. Clement rushed for 949 yards and scored 11 total touchdowns last season. He has covered 1,496 yards in his first two seasons at UW, averaging 7.0 yards per carry. Clement is the third Wisconsin running back named to the Maxwell Award preseason watch list in the last four years, joining Gordon (2014) and Montee Ball (2012). Ball was a Maxwell Award semifinalist in 2012 while Gordon was a finalist last season, UW's first since Ron Dayne won the award in 1999. UW has had a Maxwell semifinalist in each of the last four seasons: Russell Wilson (2011), Ball (2012) and Gordon (2013, 2014) Biegel and Caputo make their debut on the watch list for the Bednarik Award, presented annually to college football's outstanding defensive player. The pair of defensive standouts helped UW to rank No. 4 nationally in total defense at 294.1 yards per game and No. 17 in scoring defense at 20.8 points per contest. Caputo led all Badgers with 106 total tackles in 2014 and recorded 6.0 tackles for loss. Biegel saw action in all 14 games last season and led the Badgers with 16.5 tackles for loss, while ranking second on the team with 7.5 sacks. Biegel is one of 28 linebackers on the watch list, while Caputo is among 10 safeties who enter the season as challengers for the award. The Badgers are two of 12 Big Ten players named to the list.

Voltz on Rimington Trophy watch list Junior eyed for top honor for second-consecutive year July 8, 2015 • On the Web: go.wisc.edu/850q36MADISON, Wis. - Quick as a snap, Dan Voltz is back in consideration for the honor of the nation's top center. The Wisconsin junior was named to the fall watch list for the Rimington Trophy on Wednesday, giving him preseason consideration for the award for the second-consecutive year. Voltz was previously named to the Rimington's spring watch list in May. He is one of 18 returning centers that were featured on last season's watch list, including 2014 finalist Jack Allen of Michigan State. Voltz is one of 63 players included on the list of candidates for the award presented annually to the best center in college football, which includes six from Big Ten Conference schools. The Barrington, Illinois, native started all 14 games at center for Wisconsin last season and helped the Badgers post a school-record rushing performance that saw UW average 320.1 yards per game to rank No. 3 nationally. Wisconsin averaged 6.91 yards per carry, the fourth-best mark in FBS history, and posted the nation's two most prolific rushing performances of the season by tallying a school-record 644 yards vs. Bowling Green on Sept. 20 and 581 yards vs. Nebraska on Nov. 15. Voltz was part of the offensive line that led the way for Heisman Trophy runner-up Melvin Gordon to pile up 2,587 rushing yards -- second-most in FBS history -- and a total of 32 touchdowns. Gordon and fellow running back Corey Clement combined to cover 3,536 yards, smashing the FBS single-season record for rushing yards by a pair of teammates -- which Gordon and then-teammate James White set at 3,053 just a year earlier. Overall, Wisconsin's offense averaged 468.9 total yards per game last season, the third-highest total in program history. UW's line also allowed just 13 quarterback sacks in 14 games. Voltz gives the Badgers a preseason candidate for the Rimington Trophy for the sixth time in the last seven seasons. He joins John Moffitt (2009), Peter Konz (2010, 2011) and Travis Frederick (2012) -- each went on to become NFL draft picks -- as preseason honorees in that timeframe. Al Johnson, who achieved the distinction in 2002, is the Badgers' only Rimington Trophy finalist. Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the Outland Trophy's only double winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman. The Rimington Trophy uses the All-America teams named by the Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News and Football Writers Association of America to determine the recipient of the award. As the season progresses, the committee will continue to watch all players in contingence and will announce its finalists on Dec. 7. The winner will be recognized at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Jan. 16, 2016.

Why anyone would rush the passer last yr was beyond me. You'd think The bard would have followed tOSU's plan and put 12 in the box. But thankfully they let Flash go free.

Recruiting, unless you're a playoff contender or seven levels of horrible, always goes in cycles. You get your run, and then disaster strikes. Then you shake it off, and a new set of pieces come into play. And sometimes, a possible big week comes out of nowhere. I'm not going to tell you that there's a table that's going to be run by Wisconsin, but there are four targets who are worthy of deepening consideration. While there likely isn't going to be four commits next week, I'm willing to wager that the number is higher than zero. And it's always a good day when you get a commitment. DB K.J. Sails: Tuesday was a big day for the three-star cornerback from Gibsonton (East Bay), Fla. He visited Madison and got his photo taken with Barry Alvarez. By all accounts? It was a good visit in Madison. With that said, Sails decided to take a journey down to Iowa City and visited the Hawkeyes on Wednesday. As it stands, that was another good visit ($). As I can hear the sports yelling about to charge up that hill, I'm going to give you one piece of very interesting news. I'm not telling you this is something meaningful and throw up the commitment airhorns here. The thing I'm going to beat into you like talk of flat circles is that Paul Chryst is a pretty patient coach when a player doesn't seem ready to commit. Sails is in Madison -- good things can happen. ATH Lil'Jordan Humphrey: If you're wondering if Lil'Jordan Humphrey is not at the very least interested in what Wisconsin has to offer, he wanted to visit Madison on Wednesday, but since he was in state for a basketball tournament -- the 6'4 running back convert from Southlake (Southlake Carroll), Texas, holds a Division I hoops offer from South Dakota -- it was not to be. It's an NCAA rule I don't understand too clearly, but since it was during a basketball evaluation period -- even though he is a football prospect -- he couldn't visit campus ($). Yeah. Seems unnecessary to me, too. The good news: Humphrey is going to be able to make a visit to Madison this weekend. If we're going off the calendar. it will very likely be Monday, as the basketball evaluation period ends Sunday at 5 p.m. There's also this from 247Sports' Evan Flood that says he will be able to visit Thursday, so I don't know if this is some kind of secondary violation or what. I can guarantee that the NCAA rulebook doesn't make a lick of sense, though. Whatever. Humphrey is a top prospect, someone who could well become a very dangerous split end on the unofficial visit. It's not a commit alert call, but it shows that the Badgers have more than a puncher's chance. DE Keldric Preston: The three-star defensive end from Tampa (Robinson), Fla., was all set to announce his decision Thursday, but then the Bright House Sports Network intervened, and his decision is now set to occur on Monday. The interesting thing: it looks like the Badgers are about to get themselves a pretty strong commitment on Monday. Reports indicate that the Badgers are running in the top two with Penn State ($), which offered on June 10. The Badgers, however, received a visit and the Nittany Lions did not. Crystal balls are starting to pop up for the Badgers, too. Before we get into a struggle about what happens with Garrett Rand or Thomas Schaffer, remember this important thing. The Badgers have a lot of scholarships to work with for this class. Rand and Schaffer are definitely good enough to use in one of those "break glass in case of emergency" scholarships. But it looks like Wisconsin is the favorite to get another defensive end. WR Demari Simpkins: Another three-star prospect who's getting that crystal ball momentum coming toward Wisconsin is Simpkins, the speedster from Hollywood (Hallendale), Fla. The Badgers have always had that best-offer advantage, but the Simpkins visit plan has been solidified. It's from next Tuesday through Saturday ($), and there will be another commit on campus making a visit. That's right, the Fort Lauderdale linebacker and one of the most enthusiastic commits for the Badgers, Dallas Jeanty is going to be taking a four-day trip to Madison at the same time. I'm not going to attempt to pre-hype you here, but it seems as if a run is coming. To get a couple of strong commits in the next week or so? Always gonna be good. If disaster strikes, we'll get to the next stretch of good soon enough. Let's keep riding.

Badgers football: Top recruit Jordan Stevenson denied admission to UWIncoming freshman running back Jordan Stevenson was denied admission to the University of Wisconsin, according to a report by 247sports.com. Stevenson, a four-star prospect who was considered one of the Badgers’ top recruits for the 2015 class, confirmed on Twitter that his recruitment is open to any Division I program. “#Badgernation Thanks for all the love also all the support through all I have been through much love,” Stevenson tweeted. “With all do respect My recruitment is Official open to any Division One program for the 2015 season….” The report stated Stevenson will receive his release from UW on Friday morning after speaking with head coach Paul Chryst and running backs coach John Settle about the matter Thursday. Stevenson rushed for 2,530 yards and 28 touchdowns as a senior at South Oak Cliff High. He was expected to compete for playing time this season behind starting running back Corey Clement. The Badgers now have just one running back, Hoover (Ala.) High running back Bradrick Shaw, enrolled with the 2015 recruiting class.
