abc3340.com/sports/auburn-university/cam-newton-im-an-african-american-qb-that-scares-peopleCHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has suggested for the first time that race may play a factor in why he's become such a lightning rod for public criticism. The league MVP candidate said Wednesday, "I'm an African-American quarterback that scares people because they haven't seen nothing that they can compare me to." Newton, the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL draft out of Auburn, has more than his fair share of detractors. who either don't like how he plays, his celebrations or his self-confidence. Newton is putting up record-breaking numbers, but says he learned he can't please everyone, and needs to be true to himself. The quarterback says "people are going to judge, and have opinions on things I don't have control over." No, being black has nothing to do with it. I don't like him because he acts like a classless arrogant punk. Yes, he is athletically gifted but he is at the opposite end of the spectrum from someone like Jerry Rice. f-word you cam & your f-in race card. Now I hope you get f-ing curb stomped along with your worthless f-ing race card. f-word you!

Unfortunately, todays African Americans have been conditioned (by the likes of Malcome X, Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton) to use the race card as a standard go to as an excuse to make a point that would be considered racist if made by a white person. Double standard imo. Cam is a contributor in the community in many ways. He helps raise money for worthy causes (especially childrens charities and he doesn't get into trouble like guys such as Adam Jones, Vontezs Burfect, Josh Gordon, The guy from the ravens that KOed his girl friend ect. And Cam's really not well versed in communicating his point to the media. Poor analogy for him to use Imo

I hope he's learned his lessons from life, and is never again in a position of need...Good luck... Fred is obsessed with guns in order to keep his wife and daughter safe from black men. Fred's insecurity is showing in his hostility toward blacks--especially black men. Afraid your wife and daughter might take up with a Cam Newton, Fred?

Cam Newton may tick people off not because he's a Negro, but because he showboats and taunts opponents after every TD. Maybe the Packers player wouldn't have reacted so strongly if Cam hadn't tapped the Packer player on the head with the ball after that TD. Cam has no class on the field.

Let's face it, folks. Traditionally, a lot of white men in America have been uncomfortable about successful NFL QBs (or Presidents) being black.
It's a variation on the Jackie Robinson story.
Conversely, Cam Newton's show-boating has been a bit over the top this year.
What annoys me about it is that the real story of Super Bowl 50 probably won't be Peyton Manning vs. Cam Newton.
It will be Von Miller and Denver's #1 NFL defense vs. Cam Newton. Can Denver's defense stop Cam Newton?
I mentioned on this board during Von Miller's rookie pre-season in Denver that I had never seen any LB get to a QB as fast as Von Miller. That is still true, IMO.
Miller didn't play in the Super Bowl two years ago. (Nor did Chris Harris, Jr. and Derek Wolfe--two of Denver's best defensive players.) Denver was missing half of their starting defense in that game.
Also, Von Miller played his greatest game last week against New England. He was unstoppable.

Up until I saw all this I didn't care if he was black, white or green but now I do dislike him with a passion, not because he's black but because he's playing the black card... God help us if they win, we will get a "I did this for all the blacks everywhere" speech and of course Barry will have to pipe up. And once again OGL proves what a racist POS she/he/it is with her pathetic post. Wholly not unexpected from a racist who has no comment about one of her people, just about everyone but.

He's an incredible athlete, is redefining the qb position with his size arm and dual ability, but he also has to dab on every first down? I don't think it's because he's black, because I'm no fan of Rodgers' discount double check nor gronk's antics either. There's also a difference between exuberant joy and choreographed look at me culture of this generation. It's become the thing in pro sports today.

IF I was a betting man, I'd bet he doesn't last five years in the League. We've discussed this here before. Just like with RGIII, the human body is not designed to take the hits at the speed, and with the force that NFL D-players use... whether it's a ankle, knee, elbow or shoulder (or worse), it is just a matter of time.

The difference between RG111 and Cam is about 4 inches and 35 lbs. There have been several scrambling qbs over the years that come to mind that had succesful Nfl careers. Rodger (the dodger) Staubach, Fran Tarkenton, Randall Cunningham, Steve Young, Mike Vick. Now days guys like Russel Wilson. Collin Kapernick and Newton are redefining the position.

So you don't think people change, especially as the grow older? Let me just say that I was one of Newtons biggest critics when he was drafted. But he has come a long way in his maturation and time will indeed tell
