From what I've read, Las Vegas made a bundle on the AFC Championship game-- which was also the highest rated AFC Championship game (viewership-wise) in many years.
70% of the money, nationally, was placed on New England at -3.5 points in Denver.
The line on the Super Bowl is Carolina at -3.5 to -4.5.
Honestly, I don't have a good feel for this game, mainly because the two teams have played surprisingly few common opponents in 2015-16.
Denver completely dominated Green Bay this year in Denver-- in comparative yardage and points-- and Carolina won a close game against the Packers.
Carolina narrowly defeated Indy, and the Broncos lost at Indy-- in a game where the Broncos were CLOBBERED by the officials for four quarters. I think the Colts got 6 or 7 1st downs on Denver penalties on 3rd downs in that game.
Any predictions for the American football game of the year, sports fans?

Uh, Harry, leaving aside your latest Oklahoma disaster, and returning to the subject of the thread...
Here's something that I have been studying. There's something anomalous about it. Injuries? Bad bounces? Altitude?
On November 1, 2015, the Denver Broncos beat the undefeated Green Bay Packers 29-10.
Green Bay's offense gained only 140 yards against Denver's "D" that day. Denver had 500 yards of total offense.
Green Bay had only 14 first downs-- 4 on penalties against Denver's defense.
Denver's offense had 24 first downs-- 0 on penalties.
Carolina beat Green Bay 37-29 the next week. November 8, 2016.
Green Bay had 402 yards of offense to Carolina's 427 yards.
The Packers had 21 first downs against Carolina with 2 on penalties.
Carolina had 20 first downs against the Packer's "D."
Put differently-- the Packer's offense gained 402 yards against Carolina's defense, but only 140 yards against Denver's #1 ranked defense.
Conversely, Denver's offense gained 500 yards against the Packer's defense, and Carolina gained 427 yards.

C-Biscuit,
I, honestly, don't know if any defense can stop Cam Newton and the Panthers, but-- if anyone can, it will be Denver.
What concerns me is that both Seattle and Arizona had highly-ranked defenses in 2015, and the Panthers scored a lot of points against both teams this month. How did Atlanta's defense hold the Panthers to 268 yards recently? (I know that Wade Phillips will be studying THAT tape.)
I thought that Tom Brady and the Patriots would hang 31 points on the Broncos in the AFC Championship game last week. Instead, the Patriots got a 6 point gift early in the game-- on a dropped backwards pass to Hillman at the Denver 22 that was later ruled a fumble, and got beaten to a pulp trying to score their other 12 points.
Green Bay scored 10 points against Denver's "D"-- and had 140 total yards of offense. (That included 4 first downs awarded to Green Bay by the refs.)
Pittsburgh had the #3 offense in the NFL, and New England the #6. (Carolina was #11 in regular season yardage.) They scored 16 points and 18 points, respectively, against Denver in the playoffs-- and the Patriots got 6 on a fluke play.
#1 ranked defenses in NFL history are 9-2 in Super Bowls.

#1 ranked defenses in NFL history are 9-2 in Super Bowls. The best defense in the Nfl vs the best offense in the Nfl. Must see TV! The only explanation I can offer for Atlanta's win is the rivalry between the two teams and the fact that, as you know, it's very difficult to win Nfl games for any team and you rarely have the same types of blowouts as you do in Cfb. Honestly I have mixed emotions. I'm a Panthers fan for the past 15 years, but Manning is a class act and it would be a "feel good story" for Peyton to go out on top. I just don't know if Denver can score enough points, the Panthers have a very strong defense as well

Denver had the #1 offense in the NFL when they played Seattle's #1 defense in Super Bowl 48 two years ago, and they got blown out. (Of course, it didn't help that the Broncos were playing without several of their stars in that game.)
In fact, Peyton Manning broke the all-time NFL record for TD passes thrown in a season that year.
One of our local sports writers published a comment today about that Carolina-Atlanta game. He said that Atlanta pressured Cam Newton in that game, and that Newton got a rattled.
If that is true, it's good news for Denver's sack machine-- which led the NFL this year in pressuring and sacking QBs.
As for Peyton Manning, when he took a pay cut this season, he negotiated a deal where he gets a $2 million dollar bonus if the Broncos win the Super Bowl. I'll have to check this story out, but Peyton may be playing next Sunday with $2 million on the line. (He should offer his receivers $25K for every pass they catch.)

Peyton Manning makes $2 million with win profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/01/24/peyton-manning-makes-2-million-with-win/January 24, 2016 The year began with the Broncos asking quarterback Peyton Manning to cut his salary from $19 million to $9 million. Eventually, the two sides agreed to a $4 million reduction, with an important asterisk. Manning would make $2 million back if the Broncos win the AFC championship, and the other $2 million if they win the Super Bowl. On Sunday, Manning made $2 million when the Broncos beat the Patriots for a berth in Super Bowl 50. He’ll make the other $2 million with a win. The real question is whether the Broncos will want to pay him $19 million for 2016. If the team wins the Super Bowl, it will be difficult to cut him loose.

I just don't know if Denver can score enough points, the Panthers have a very strong defense as wellCarolina's d has been very very opportunistic. Great on turnover ratio. That's the key to me. Denver was great vs New England in protecting the ball. Do that vs the Panthers and they have a shot at winning, because that will force newton to go longer distances more often vs a real good Broncos defense. One other little tidbit. Nfl playoff teams who scored 40+ in the post season the previous game are just 4-23-1 ats the next game. Carolina played the perfect game vs Arizona. Tough to do that twice in a row. I'm already on Denver +4.5 and thinking hard about taking the money line on them too. Reminds me of the ny giants taking on Jim Kelly and the bills high flying offense back in the early 90s. Similar scenario imho
