Yeh, he was pretty good, all right, but if I were putting together an all-time team, I'd take Magic and Oscar before Jordan every time. Magic is one of 3 Lakers I don't despise, along with Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain. The rest:👎 especially Kobe. (can you tell I hate the Lakers?😊) |

Not a Laker fan either, despite living in L.A. for a few years. Used to watch Magic quite a lot in those days...early to mid-80's, so he was in his prime. Just a phenomenal player. I love the game of basketball and I really came to appreciate just how good he was. The only other players I've seen that compared to him are Bird and LeBron.
Except for the fact that he was totally useless on defense, I'd take Pete Maravich in a NY minute. The guy was, for my $, the most amazing offensive player ever. Lots of fun to watch...no doubt about that at all. |

Those are bold statements considering Michael Jordan won six straight championships and was Championship MVP six straight times and never let a playoff series go to 7 games. In my opinion Michael Jordan is the goat I don't have anything against someone arguing for Magic and while I didn't see as much of Oscar, I have no problem with that argument either but in addition to the points you made, he did everything you could want on a basketball court. He scored, rebounded, played stellar defense and he made his teammates better. Some will argue that he had Pippen as his sidekick but when given the chance to be "the man" himself in POR, his stats across the board were never what they were while playing with MJ. Then the centers Jordan had to work with... yikes. Most importantly, Jordan knew how to win when it mattered most. MJ may not have been the most talented, the best shooter or even the best dunker, but as an all-around player, he was the best that ever lived, IMO. |

Jordan is one of the best ever... not taking anything away from him. Was lucky enough to see him play many times as well...had Bulls season tickets for about 10 years, so I saw him plenty of times. I know how great he was. But, I prefer Magic for the simple reason that I believe he was a better all-around player and could play any position seamlessly. Hell, he played center in one NBA finals game when Jabbar got hurt. He could control a game with or without the ball. Admittedly, at these levels, it's personal preference. That's why I said for my money, Magic is the best ever.
