It kinda resembles an AK a lot.
There's only so much you can do with a gun that has a useless handle sticking down from the bottom of it. useless handle..?.. You adore the mini-14 but if I recall correctly, it has a most intrusive magazine hanging down from it... different strokes for different folks.. :::shrug::: The extended box magazines serve a purpose on ALL rifles that use them. The pistol grip does NOT. No American military rifle had a pistol grip until the M-16 came along. The '03 Springfields, M-1 Garands and M-14's served quite well up until then. I can see a pistol grip to help with heavy recoil, but on a 5.56? There's no advantage at all, IM little ol' HO.

No. We should NOT. And it's only a little hole. At 4 feet from the muzzle, you don't get ANY pellet spread. Tell it! Tell it! OK.
There I was, with my trusty Winchester 1300 Defender 12 gauge 3" shotgun. All of a sudden, I see a vicious mouse sitting on top of my Hammond XK-2, with an evil look in his eyes, like he wanted to play "96 Tears" or something! It was a horrible feeling to think that my organ would be desecrated in such a way, but what was I to do? The damn mouse had already powered up the organ, and was flexing his little rodent fingers, like a miniature evil Jon Lord. Complete with moustache.
But he was SITTING on the instrument, and a stray shot would have destroyed it. Finally I figured it out! I threw the sheet music to Bach's Sonata No. 2 in C Minor over his head, and as he jumped to catch it, I blasted him in mid air. What a wondrous, magnificent shot! When my ears stopped ringing and the smoke cleared, there was a mouse-sized hole in the wall with a few blood spatters and mouse hairs around it. I never found any more of the devilish little beast, and my precious Hammond was saved!!
And THAT is how it happened. True story. Yes it is.
Really.
I swear!!!!!!!

A pistol grip is likely to be more ergonomic and provide better leverage on the weapon. Also, it allows for a folding or collapsing stock. So a pistol grip does have a use. Anyway, the U.S. military, along almost every other military in the world seems to think so... but hey, whatever floats your boat..

Remember --- the U.S. military is run by the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

The military is NOT always right. But Mutt is NEVER wrong. FACT. Well, I thought I was wrong once, but I was wrong.
BTW, we just had another Osprey crash with the apparent loss of Marnie lives. I guess the military knows what it is doing to not ground those flying deathtraps.

BTW, the most popular rifle used by the military in that same world is none other than the ak-47. Yep, they have that damn pesky, useless pistol grip. Check out what elite military units around the world carry... guess they're not right either, eh, Bryan...

Since the AK-47 is the most reliable, simple and durable "assault rifle" currently in existence, as you said, and is GIVEN by the Russians to their allies, and sold to anyone else who wants them, I won't argue with Mr. Kalishnikov, if he were still alive. The pistol grip on submachineguns far predates it on "assault rifles."
However, until the U.S. adopted the M-16, we always LED the world in military weapons development. Now we are simply blind lemmings, following the rest of the world, as you correctly say. So we should follow the rest of the world and go deeper down the socialist path as well? How about we follow the rest of the world and make private gun ownership very difficult or impossible? The rest of the world is no more correct than the U.S. military is.
If you think you need a pistol grip to handle the recoil of the "MIGHTY" .223, have at it. I'll take the much better looking, sleeker, more reliable Mini-14 any time. Freedom to choose is nice isn't it? But you think the rest of the world has better ideas.

You're all about the 'better looking' , aren't you... LOL.. I reckon that's where we'll have to differ. When it comes to firearms, I'll take functional over looks all day. No big deal, different strokes fer different folks... :::shrug:::

No big deal, different strokes fer different folks... :::shrug::: Well, I DID say that the Mini-14's action is more reliable than the M-16's since it is based on a better design ............... but I guess you missed that part. The Mini-14 does not blow gas and unburned powder particles directly back into the chamber like the M-16 does. Guess which rifle will run longer before it has to be cleaned. Those high temp gases blowing directly on the operating mechanism will cause premature parts failure, but that's not important either, is it?
If you like your jam-o-matic better, that's fine by me. It's a free country, and the spare parts manufacturers and gunsmiths LOVE you.
