Whenever it happens with whatever it takes. I've only lost one fight in my life and that was when I was a 160 lb. 17 year old going up against a 250 lb. sociopath in a bar. He got me that day but I ended up returning the favor a few months later. I don't get even, I get over. nuff said. You can't get even if he kills or cripples you first, Champ. I have never lost a fight, but then I don't go looking for them, nor do I give anyone a reason to want to fight me. I have never been attacked just because someone felt like attacking me. I have only had serious fights as part of my job, and those were about as serious as it gets. Even then, I was restricted by rules as to what I could do to end the fight. I don't have those restrictions any more.
What was a 17 year old doing in a bar?
I had a very good reason, I felt at the time, to jump this sob. If I had it to do over again, I would.

So do you plan to strangle your opponent with a rope, outskip him or outrun him? I doubt if he will be a shadow. Not to mention, punching someone in the face with bare knuckles is NOT a good idea. How are you going to stop him when he grabs you from behind? How about when one pins your arms from behind, and a second one is punching the daylights out of you? What if he has a knife, and you are somewhere you can't have your gun?
You need to stop messing around and start learning some decent self defense skills. Running IS the best option, if at all possible.
IF he has a knife and I'm without g19, I'll simply take the knife away from him and gut him like a fish. If he gets close enough to me ( think ninja ) to grab me from behind, we go to the ground and it's fighting like the sky is falling. If there's two and one pins my arms, I'll use the heel of my boots to kick the chin of the one punching me up through his ears. He'll have a hard time punching me with his chin now where his eyes used to be. Well, yeah. The bad guy is going to stand there and let you take his knife away. What technique have you learned to do that?
And when he blocks your kick because you don't know HOW to kick and starts pulling you like a wishbone, you are really in a world of hurt. Forget the Walker Texas Ranger moves. You NEVER kick above the waist in a real fight. I guarantee you aren't fast enough to pull it off. Not to mention, if you try kicking straight at my head, I can move my head back long before your foot gets there, and you can't win kicking air. Then like I said, you have left your foot hanging out for an extremely convenient handle to grab. There is much more to kicking than simply throwing your foot out there.
Before YOU think ninja, I suggest you learn to fight like one. Do yourself a favor and learn some REAL fighting skills. I'll bet when someone threatens you, you immediately go into a fighting stance, ready to take him on. Another untrained mistake!

Let me ask you, ever been put into a jail at 17 with 3 broke ribs and a broken wrist..?..of course not, you're a career cop, I did. BUT, that didn't stop me from whipping the ass of a wannabe dude that outweighed me by 50 lbs. After that 'fight' I was spitting blood for two days but the rest of the time I was there, no one even looked me in the eye. I take that back. there was this one dude. Shot caller. I didn't know it at the time but he was there for suspicion of 2 murders. didn't matter though. If he had tried me, he would have gotten the same thing. A world ending fight. I remember once he got up and turned the station I was watching. I got up and turned it back. He had this 300 lb gorilla get up and turn it back, said if I turn it again, the 300 lb gorilla will break my neck along with whatever he wants to break. So I picked up the chair I was sitting in and proceeded to smash the tv. "now, no one can watch." I did this knowing that before gorilla could get to me, the guards would be in there and sure enough, here they come. Cost me an additional 2 months but oh well. F with me, I f with you.

I spent a weekend in jail once. Misdemeanor and the charge was later dropped. Disturbing the peace, I think. I was a kid myself, but there was no violence involved. Anyway, that weekend convinced me to be a good boy from then on. I like my freedom too much. I'm not angel, but I'm not John Dillinger, either.
