We'd have to consult with Trn to know for sure, but I thought a coaching change in mid season was the kiss of death for a team to be in the contest. In one of the years these rules nuggets were written down, but I have no idea which year it was. In any case, you've decided and I've picked so the matter is settled. UF has no quality depth and it is getting smaller by the game. Those fewer less talented/experienced bigger faster players aren't good enough to cover a 10 1/2 point spread against the Division 2 West Florida Argonauts let alone the UAB Trailblazers. Thank goodness the Gators don't have to play a Georgia Southern this week. At least UAB is an FCS football team. It's Great To Be A 3&8er! I watched USC play with that number of players a few years ago AND without a coach as well at the end. Depth is a massive issue, but in USC's case, the team hung together and rallied around the interim HC. That doesn't seem to be happening for UF. In addition, intangible things happen. USC didn't allow contact drills for fear of injuries, and that showed up on the field in really bad tackling. And FTR, UAB is an FBS team, in second place in the CUSA-West. Yep, I meant FBS. Georgia Southern was in their last year of FCS when they beat UF. Many of the UF players have quit. The example I notice the most in the games is DT Khairi Clark who is much better than he cares to play. I'd sit his ass on the bench. Too bad nobody will be back to threaten his ship as he has played so poorly and carelessly that he needs to be booted as an example for the other players. If I were Randy Shannon, I kick his butt off the team for the remainder of the season. Did USC get down to the low 50s in ship players? I know the NCAA bitch slapped USC, but I don't remember the roster getting that low in ship players.

Yeah, they did, and I recall you telling me that such was the end result of multiple years of such draconian measures by the NCAA. I learned a lot about such things from you. I denied and denied, but in the end, you were right and I was wrong. UF has different but similar issues. Uf hasnt the same cause but it is the same result. The difference is that USC, the team, held together. UF doesn't seem to have that cohesiveness. That requires new leadership. They are in many respects just like USC in that regard, and they remain a fine program that will dig out of it. I expect they will regain prominence sooner than later.

Why should UF win on paper? The Gators have a coaching staff in disarray and only 53 ship players having lost the starting QB again and the starting center plus another player. One of the 53 is a walkon who was awarded a ship at the conclusion of summer camp. Realistically, that's a roster 1 smaller than the 53 man roster allowed in the NFL. UF may not score 10 1/2 points let alone should they be spotting UAB 10 1/2 points. I will dutifully take UF, but this game shouldn't be on the list. The game next week against FSU shouldn't be on the list either. One of the rules during the previous contests was that a coaching change was a big enough event to take the affected team out of the contest. Tennessee games should be off limits too. Wasnt the rule a coaching change AFTER the game was posted? The Gater situation is known. And on paper, the Gator team is bigger and faster. That usually wins games. Didn't someone mention crybaby a few threads back?

To answer, it was only for the game that week, because it would have materially affected the line, and by extension, the pick....often after the line was set for the contest.
For this game, the line is 10.5 with the knowledge that Shannon is the interim guy. If it was 10.5 posted here and then Shannon took over for the game and the Vegas crew yanked it, that would have triggered the rule.
