As of 1-1-18 no more direct internet or mail order purchases. All ammo will have to be bought from licensed dealers and include a background check same as when buying a firearm. I believe you can still purchase out of state but it has to be shipped to an FFL in CA. Typical CA FFL's charge $75-$100 to do a transfer, plus you get to pay CA sales tax on the purchase, plus you get to pay the $25 for a background check. Don't worry, when Gavin Newsome is elected gov after Moonbeam's term is up they'll really ratchet it up. ALL semi's will be redesignated as assault weapons. Walt and brainedbush could not be more pleased I'm sure. So much winning. California will be so much greater next week. "Greater?" Commiefornia hasn't even been CLOSE to great in the last 30 years. It's a shitty state politically, although the landscape itself is quite nice, they tell me. Just what do you expect to happen next week?

Mostly because it pissed you off, but also because it begins to tighten the availability of who can easily and legally obtain bullets, and like taxing cigarettes, is aimed at economic dissuasion. No, taxing is not aimed at dissuasion. Taxing is aimed at getting your money. Don't act stupidly. In addition, there's a pretty simple concept about it that you are too blind to admit. If a person isn't legally entitled to possess a gun, for what reason would they need bullets? Can't be a good reason, can it? What about if they have a bunch of brass, primers, and smokeless powder? That would be one reason for needing bullets so they could assemble cartridges. So, if you are against felons possessing guns, why are you okay with them possessing bullets? For the same reason which is nothing prevents them from possessing guns. Felons don't obey laws, remember? Based on your response above I have to conclude that you are fully against poor people protecting themselves with a gun and ammunition. The poor just need to quit buying big sceen TVs and expensive rimmed wheels. Isn't that what you conservatives always tell us?

Sorry, Walt. I'm not whining at all. I bought enough ammo to fulfill my family's needs for quite some time to come. Certainly until the day we leave this once great state. Of course, every bullet to you is just one more chance that that bullet will end up in somebody's face so why don't we throw them all in a lake.

Nothing. Fred is just whining. It wasn't FRed who said "So much winning. California will be so much greater next week." So what will make CA greater next week? Or was that your attempt at sarcasm?

He thinks he'll be safer because you'll have to have a background check to buy a stinking box of overpriced/overtaxed crap ammo if anybody wants to even go though the hassle/paperwork anymore. I wonder if we'll have to wait 10 days before we can pick up our $7 box of .223 Rem at Walmart after paying $25 to the state for our background check... Totalitarianism at its finest. Wal ter makes good com rade, dah.

Wal ter makes good com rade, dah. I want to know how the STATE can charge you $25 for a FEDERAL background check. The feds don't charge a fee. Something smells like a rotten illegal fish in Sacramento, brother.
I know YOU know how it works, but here's the lowdown for those who don't:
"All federally licensed gun dealers must run checks on every buyer -- whether a purchase is made in a store or at a gun show. The checks work like this: A buyer presents his or her ID to the seller and fills out ATF Form 4473 with personal information such as age, address, race and criminal history, if any. The seller then submits the information to the FBI via a toll-free phone line or over the Internet, and the agency checks the applicant's info against databases. The process can take a few minutes. Required information includes: name, address, place of birth, race and citizenship. A Social Security number is "optional," though it's recommended. The form also asks questions such as: -- Have you ever been convicted of a felony? -- Have you ever been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence? -- Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any other depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance? -- Are you a fugitive from justice? -- Have you ever been committed to a mental institution?" money.cnn.com/2016/01/05/news/gun-background-checks/index.html
You will notice that there is NO mention of paying for a 4473 check. Paying is NOT part of the legal process. Notice also that the information I chose to use comes from the Communist News Network itself.

The state collects the $25 for the 4473, don't ask me why. Not only that, but they also mandate that you have a valid firearms safety certificate to buy a gun. That's another $25 every five years. Then there's the state sales tax. Where I am it's 8.625%

Then there's the state sales tax. Where I am it's 8.625% As a citizen of that state, YOU need to question the state's illegal action in that regard. No state has any part of the 4473 process, therefore they can't place a fee on something that is outside of their jurisdiction. I kinda like the idea of proving you know how to handle a firearm before you can buy one. HOWEVER, the certification process should be free, and first timers should be provided a gun and ammo by the state to go through the training. In addition, the certification fee should be on a sliding scale ---$25 being the maximum all the way down to $0 for the poor people. The state could look at the applicant's most recent 3 months of paycheck stubs, and the fee adjusted accordingly for each person. I can't figure out yet how to handle able bodied persons of working age who have no check stubs to show. Maybe they's just have to suck it up and pay $25 the first. Then they can try to save a whopping $5 a year to pay for their next cert. round.
Our state sales tax is 5%, BUT additional taxes by local yokels raise it to 10%. At least that makes it easy to run your tax bill in your head whilst still shopping. Food, medications, and even basic clothing are taxed at lower rates. Get confused here: www.tax-rates.org/louisiana/sales-tax

I really have no idea why the state gets $25 for the BC but it's been that way as long as I can remember. I'm talking about early to mid 80's. Back in '72 when my dad and I bought the Glenfield (Marlin) Model 60 at K-Mart we simply paid for the "18 round high capacity semi-automatic assault rifle" and walked out the door. Strangely enough it has never once jumped up and shot anybody through thousands of rounds and a large number of critters shot dead with. .. The horror!! There are conservatives who have murdered innocent/cute little critters!!!

I can't find a definitive answer, but I DID find that businesses in other states also charge for the 4473 fee.
Maybe that's why The Sportsman's Paradise is such a great state. Our state doesn't burden law abiding people with an extra unnecessary fee in order to enjoy their Second Amendment RIGHTS.
Some states (one of which is Commiefornia, can opt to do their own background checks above and beyond the NICS check authorized by a 4473 form. Maybe that is what your $25 pays for, FRed. lawcenter.giffords.org/gun-laws/state-law/50-state-summaries/background-check-procedures-state-by-state/

That's how we've been spied on and all of our legal firearms purchases registered with The State. (the "state" in terms of liberal communism...) Oddly, illegal firearms are seemingly of no concern...

I don't know what YOUR 4473 says on it, but there's nothing on mine that I would consider harmful to me. Name, address, dob, D/L and SS numbers? Big deal. The form itself goes nowhere except the store's 4473 paperwork filing area.
