The big change in the law was allowing any person to bring the mail-in ballot to be counted, instead of it having to be someone living at the address or a relative. Now, you've got campaign workers knocking on doors seeking mail-in ballots and taking as many as they can collect to the polls. It's legal in California, but it's a big switch imo. Have to say on the surface, don't really care for it, either. That said, Republicans got beat on the ground by the Democrats, the Dems took full advantage of the change in the law while the Republicans got caught with their pants down.
If I'm a political org seeking to win, and (I assume) they have a list of registered Dems who requested a mail-in ballot, what is the issue with knocking on a door to find out if the ballot was sent and offering aid in delivery if it wasn't? I guess I'm not seeing the issue Repubs are having with this. Their folks have the same lists and they can do the same thing. Their problem is simply that there are fewer Republican doors and that isn't a problem with the law; that is a problem with Republicanism. LOL. You know very well the potential for abuse. Yes, some of the Republican blow back is sour grapes, but there is substance there as well.

Substance? Perhaps conceptually. But as with most claims by conservatives about voter fraud, here's yet another fear whose reality is not backed up by any facts. It's possible that folks impersonate other people in person at the polls. There is 'substance' to the idea. Does it happen? No. I suppose we could close that loophole by requiring some bonding of the "harvester" or some such thing to make it more official, but as I said, it sounds a lot more like blaming the ref. than taking responsibility for failing to block and tackle.

This is the first time it's been done, so will have to wait to see about the facts. Bonding the people is a good idea, as is limiting how many can be out there. One thing I don't like about schemes like this is it encourages laziness. If you can't get to the polls and need a mail-in ballot, fine. But, if you don't fill it out and mail it, tough luck in my book. Voting shouldn't intentionally be made difficult, but it also shouldn't be something Uber takes care of for you, either. It should take a conscious effort on your part as well. Just my take.

I'd be curious to look into what begat the change in the law. Were there issues of a hassle in being able to physically return ballots? I dunno.

And just FTR, it's not that physically hard to mail a ballot. I'm guessing they only way an ounce or so.

But I doubt that's many people. Honestly, my first thought was: Why not just put it with outgoing mail and have your mailman take it? My mailman will take outgoing, I think. I don't do it anymore because I have a drop at the office, but I think he will. He used to anyway..

My first thought as well, if you can make it to the mailbox to retrieve your mail, should be able to put an outgoing letter there as well.

Wally keeps deleting my posts from this thread, guess freedom of the press doesn't exist when liberals don't like what conservatives have to say.

I live in Jefferson and more counties are asking to join our effort at secession from the people’s republic of Californication, the worst state in the Union by far.

LOL...Every election lately Jefferson gets smaller, not bigger. Only 7 or 8 of 54 districts left. And one of them needed the worst state by far to drop $3-400 million on firefighting on them to combat fires wrought by that climate change thing they don't believe in. You're welcome. www.politifact.com/california/article/2018/aug/03/burning-money-facts-californias-soaring-cost-fight/

LMAO!!!! Caused by that climate change thing he says! I guess his own rules don't apply to himself here... LMAO!!!! I posted a link. You did not. Your job here is not to troll, but to post a fact based rebuttal. Post a link declaring that the increase in fires is not climate-related.
