Walt, thanks for the new boards. I will jump right in (pun intended) and ask if anyone has any recommendations on relieving joint pain, specifically in the knees. I have had issues in the past with various pulls or strains causing pain but this feels different. I am very active lifting weights, jogging and playing volleyball but now I notice a difference in the pain based on the weather so I am assuming it is joint-related. Any home remedies or supplements anyone recommends?

Any home remedies or supplements anyone recommends? I had knee surgery, (anterior cruciate) years ago from a sports injury. I am now and have been for some time, bone on bone in my knee. Everyday, I take glucosamine, and it works for me. It is OTC and provides lubrication for the joints. There are no side effects and it works very well for me. I golf 4-5 times a week and I no longer experience knee joint pain. As always, you might want to check with your MD, but it does work for me. Good luck.

I take glucoasmine with tumeric and chondroiton daily and while it has provided some relief, the recent fluctuations in temps here in FL has caused the pain to return more frequently. Just wondered if someone might have alternatives to... you know, actually going to the doctor.

I live with knee pain, but seldom does it really get to me. When it does, a good book and a hot hot tub of water work great for me. Helps with my chronic lower back pain too. My body laughs at OTC painkillers. We all have different pain thresholds, so what might work for one guy might not work for you.
Age is also a factor, and there's not much you can do about that. Every body has an expiration date.

For most cases of osteoarthritis, ibuprofen offers the best, inexpensive pain relief, but it can cause gastritis and upper GI bleeding. I take it, if needed, for knee and back pain-- always after eating something, and usually with an H2 blocker like omeprazole, to prevent gastritis. (And no alcohol.)
I tore my MCL in a skiing accident many years ago and I had to give up jogging and basketball to avoid aggravating my knee pain. (I used to run five miles a day for many years.)
I have substituted rollerblading (laps in the park) and using my Nordic Track (in the winter) for running for about 25 years now. It's good cardio and doesn't aggravate my knee and back pain, because of the low impact, gliding motion. Some people prefer riding a bike, but I never enjoyed bicycling as a sport.
The concept is to stay in shape without aggravating the wear-and-tear on the damaged joints.

My wife is very much into natural supplements after her cancer struggles So she has done tons of research on various Products That are natural with little if any side effects. I've tried several different things including apple cider vinegar and turmeric powder for my arthritis in my knees but what I have found that works the best is a product called diatomaceous earth or DE for short. This stuff cost very little and works great for my arthritis pain. It also has other health benefits such as help in lowering blood pressure and cholesterol. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diatomaceous_earth

Read my post to Mike. De is a miracle worker and cost very little. Thanks, I'll check that out. I don't have arthritis that I'm aware of --- mine is more like what doctors call "nonspecific pain." My Taiwanese buddy (like most orientals) is big on natural remedies too, so I'll discuss it with him as well.
