Don't tell the bad guys, but he might have had to sell his ammunition to buy food or medicine, and now all his guns are empty.
ALWAYS keep at least 2 magazines' worth of ammunition PER GUN on hand,  Since most revolvers hold 6, I'd keep 18 rounds for each revolver.
And if you have HP Bullets, DO NOT SHOOT them in practice   ---  use the ball rounds for that purpose

I loaded up a box of 50 138 gr. .38 spcl full wadcutters sitting on 3.2 gr of W-231 as a possible load for my State Police quals next month, using my S&W fixed sight  SS .38 with 4 inch barrel.   For grouping purposes I only load 5 in the cylinder.  At 50 feet (the longest distance on the hand gun range), I put 10 of those wadcutters in the bad guy's head.   The group was about the size of your palm, beginning with the upper palate and ending slightly over the eyebrows.  The group width was tighter than the width of  average eye sockets.   IOW I would be shooting a brain puree'.

The were accurate, with light recoil, NO malfunctions, and easy to recharge the cylinder with speedloaders.

Except for higher capacity and faster reloading (don't drop that mag!), the semiauto has no advantage  over the DA wheelgun, assuming shooters of equal skill.

I'll have 100 more loaded with that same recipe when I take my old timey outdated gun to qualify, and I anticipate shooting MY highest score ever.   Perfect 120 would be nice, but I'll settle with an old geezer score of118-119.

Fooling around with empty mags will get you killed. During practice drills my mags always hit the ground when empty. They are dead to me. They don't exist. I could care less. The only mag that matters is full one I'm about to slam home and overhand release the slide.

I mean "don't drop the loaded mag from your scared nervous fumble fingers as you try to reload."   I don't touch an empty or depleted mag at all when I am doing a reload.  If a mag won't drop clear of the gun when I hit the mag release, that mag is relegated to target practice only.

No.  You insert the magazine into the well with your off hand, and use the SLIDE RELEASE to drop the slide with your shooting hand.  You must keep your off hand as free as possible.  My off hand comes back up into a support position while my shooting hand thumb drops the slide.  OR I use my off hand thumb to drop the slide as it comes back to support position.

Learn to do it the right way.   That's why they HAVE the slide release lever on the gun.

Slingshotting requires TWO hands, and two are not always available.

I'm gonna learn you, son.  Just pay attention.

Sorry but yes. My weak hand is already free and slingshotting doesn't require fine motor skill, which goes out the window under duress, or changing my grip hand anchoring on the firearm. This advice (which affirms what I've been doing all along) coming directly from a veteran LE officer who ran the training courses for cops. In fact, you're the only cop or military I've trained under who says to use the slide release instead. Not sure why you think you're correct when everyone else says to overhand the slide. It's a definite action not a fine motor skill which is how it's been explained numerous times over the years. But do what you want.
I'm gonna learn you, pops. Just pay attention. Oh, and you might want a fresh Depends™. You're smelling a bit ripe...

Had a old Colt revolver that i had my young boys shoot in the basement, using wax bullets and shot shell primers. Damn I wonder what ever became of those cases? Had 18, as I recall.  They'd have to seat the wax bullet, press the primer in, load the revolver and slowly shoot. Accurate enough and they learned the basics of safe handling, at a young age. And cleanup was a breeze.

I am going to do what I have been doing for over 50 years of shooting semiauto handguns.  For me, it IS a fine motor skill since I have NEVER done it any other way.   I have never failed to drop the slide using my method, so I am not going to change because strangers and people who aren't real cops don't understand that your off hand might be busy holding a flashlight, pushing a civilian out of the way, or even shot to hell already.

I am "grandpa" because I am WISE, and experienced.

 I did that a long time ago too, until I learned that if you don't enlarge the flash hole, the primer would sometimes back out and lock up the cylinder.
And once you do that, you can't use the modified cases for full power rounds.

NEVER think those wax rounds are "safe!"   I learned the hard (painful) way.
