With that info, I tracked down a Pew Study.
Turns out about 1 in 4 AAs own a gun. So, at roughly 12% of the population, black gun ownership represents about 3% of Americans.
Meanwhile, 36% of whites own guns, representing roughly 60% of the population, which calculates to a little shy of 22% of the population.
Hispanic own the fewest guns, at just 16%, while they represent about 19% of the population, so gun-owners represent about 3% of the total population, about the same as blacks.
IOW, there are approximately 7 white gun owners for every one black gun owner or hispanic gun owner.

So the difference at the time of your Pew Study was only 11%.

It would not be far fetched to say that the percentage of blacks who legally own guns will soon surpass the % of whites who do.
