I'm seriously considering getting one of these to add to my stable of .308's. I've long wanted an FN SCAR but those are pricey and that's always held me back. The new Ruger's MSRP of $1,229 is very attractive. Of course I'd spend close to that or more on glass and upgrades I'm sure. Could be my first new gun purchase in several years.

You can get them cheaper than that and they seem to be fast sellers.
They are FUGLY, and if they need upgrades straight from the factory, why buy one to begin with? The people who wrote the review of it in "American Rifleman" say it is superior to the AR-15. It is, but so is the AR-10, and any other semiauto rifle in .308.
Buying Ruger IS a good move, though. Most of the guns I own were made IN the USA, BY Americans.

If looking like an AR is FUGLY then sign me up! I would put a Geissele trigger, ambi charging handle, and buffer/spring in it straight away. I do that with all my AR's. And I'd probably put a Steiner optic on it. Depending on how sloppy the buttstock is I'd undoubtedly swap that out with a Magpul.

All rifles with that truck exhaust pipe on the front of the receiver are FUGLY.
However, at least you want an American made gun, and you certainly have the right to buy it and accessorize it any way you want to. Buying ANY semiautomatic sporting rifle is a good move to slap Demonrats in the face. I 100% support you.

I prefer the typical A2 birdcage flash hider but this is a .308 and I'm happy with it as is. Or are you talking about the full length barrel shroud? I have one like it on one of my AR's. It's nice to hold the barrel closer to the end than on the typical M4 style AR handguard (not M16). Or are you talking about the optic? BTW, I only own American, German and Austrian. I guess that makes me a Nazi according to leftists. I know you add British to your mix. I would too if I wanted another caliber or a super expensive gentleman's shotgun. I don't do African game so those beauties are right out.

I would too if I wanted another caliber or a super expensive gentleman's shotgun. I don't do African game so those beauties are right out. You know I know the difference between a muzzle brake/flash hider and a full length ventilated barrel shroud. I am saying I do not like the look of the diesel truck exhaust barrel shroud. As far as holding farther down the barrel goes, I have never reached farther down the barrel than even the carbine length hand guard of an AR goes.
I have noticed a trend for "shooters" to grab the rifle by placing their support hand awkwardly on the gun so that they are placing their thumb over the barrel. Again the standard hand guard of an AR, Mini-14, or M1A will prevent the shooter's hand from being burned.
Like I said, they are ugly as sin and I will never own one like that, but if you like it, have at it. No way am I interested in trying to talk you out of exercising your 2A rights. Buy as many guns as you can afford, just to piss off the Demonrats and all other gun haters.
Offer to take your neighbor and HIS kids to the range, so that we can bring the kids into the pro-gun camp as early as possible. Teaching them about gun rights and freedom is more vital than teaching them that being queer is normal.

Agree 100% with you of course. I have modified my view slightly. Buy ANY gun you want, no matter where it is made. As long as you are exercising your rights, and basically telling loony lieberals and Demonrats to kiss your ass, GOOD. We HAVE to stop the lunacy like the shit that is happening in Washington.

Wouldn't mind having a CZ 75, and of course an FN SCAR or Browning Hi-Power...but I probably have enough handguns. Oh, and a Benelli M4.

Matter of fact, Sportsman's Warehouse here in town has M4s in stock. May just scoot down this weekend and lighten the wallet... My Mossy A500 is ok but that Benelli is the cat's meow and I've got plenty of Buck to feed it.

I'm happy with my Winchester pump. To be honest, a shotgun is kinda useless as a defensive weapon if you have other choices. Inside the house, you have to aim it just as carefully as a rifle, and outside the house, it doesn't have the range of a rifle. But if all you have is a shotgun, by all means use it, and at close range, there is no doubt that a shotgun wound is devastating, and it doesn't have to be a 12 gauge. Maybe I'll get myself a low-recoiling .410.

That Girsan looks very interesting and at an attractive price.

Yeah, it would be nice to have and so would the CZ75B, but I already have more guns than I can shoot, and honestly, I'm starting to shoot more .22LR than anything simply because it's cheaper and recoil is no factor at all. Guess as I age, I'm becoming a wimp. LOL

This is true, and when you think about it, how many guns does one actually need? It's not like either one of us has 40 years of shooting ahead of us. Well, maybe I do but at 105 a bb gun's recoil would probably hurt.

Well, maybe I do but at 105 a bb gun's recoil would probably hurt. I only NEED one (OK 2, in case #1 goes down for some reason), but that's not the point.
It's fun to own a lot of guns, especially if they are different. It would be boring for me to own, say 10 1911's or Glocks. I like diversity, and a black powder revolver sure is different from a modern plastic fantastic.
Other people like to stick to one type, and that's OK too.
As for myself, every gun that I buy/own now will become part of my kids' inheritance one day, so it's not like I'm really wasting any money. Some of my guns are pretty valuable, some of them not, but they are all worth something. One of my daughters has already claimed by S&W 645, and my oldest granddaughter has dibs on a COT in my man cave. LOL Right now the cot is the property of my dog, though. He loves it, too.
