Stoops has recruited well, but one recruiting class doesn't make a team. UF will be 3-0 going into game four.

With 3 BCS national championships and 2 SEC championships over the last 5 years, I vote for the latter.
For the Gators to have a chance to win, there must be something amiss with the tide offense as the tide defense is loaded. The best chance is at QB where Jacob Coker and Blake Sims are splitting practices as starter and backup. It could be a sign that the tide's run of good luck with new starting QBs has come to an end. It could be the bama O hasn't meshed by 9.20.14. With two weeks to go to the start of the season, it'll be interesting to see how far this plays out before Saban names a QB starter. The tide has great RBs and WRs, but can the QB successfully use all of the skilled talent bama has available?

This is what drives me nuts about Will Muschamp when he talks about injuries. He says OL David Sharpe has a high ankle sprain from the scrimmage this morning. He then says Sharpe is needed back and he could be out a week. Give me a break! I've never seen anybody come back from a high ankle sprain in less than 4 to 6 weeks depending on the severity of the sprain. My hope is it's just a normal ankle sprain with a week of recovery time.
The reason the team will have a limited Saturday practice is that there will be fan days for the football and volleyball teams:

In their final major scrimmage of the preseason Friday, the Florida Gators had a “solid” day, according to coach Will Muschamp.
That’s the good news.
Here’s the even better news: the Gators have made it through their preseason scrimmages without sustaining any major injuries that could impact the season.
“We’re pretty healthy. Knock on wood,” Muschamp said.
If the Gators can get through camp healthy (they have one more week to go before game week), it would be huge for a team that was decimated by injuries last season, including some major injuries in the preseason.
Muschamp said the only injury to come out of Friday’s scrimmage was a high ankle sprain sustained by true freshman offensive tackle David Sharpe.
“David Sharpe has a high ankle. It happened this morning. But he’s fine,” Muschamp said. “We’ll see him tomorrow morning. Those high ankles can be two days, they can be a week. We need to get him back. He’s a really good football player. He’s very athletic, 6-6, 330 pounds, moves his feet extremely well. A guy that’s going to help us this year.”
The other injury news is positive. Muschamp said tailback Matt Jones (knee) and offensive lineman Trip Thurman (shoulder) will return to practice today after missing most of the past week. Defensive end Bryan Cox Jr. (AC shoulder sprain) is scheduled to return Monday.
The Gators will hold their final open practice Saturday in The Swamp. The start time has been moved back from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
“Tomorrow we will be on the field at 11 o’clock. We will not be on the field very long,” Muschamp said Friday. “We’ll go through some corrections from today and we’ll have some skel periods. But we’ll only be in helmets tomorrow. We’ve had 15 straight very physical practices. Very pleased with our effort. Our tune in, our focus, of what we’re trying to do. I’ve been extremely pleased with that.”

If this doesn't turnout smoothly, I wonder if Lane Kiffen will get the blame? There is also a reported undercurrent that the team prefers Sims which could add a racial concern to the situation. However, I'm not buying that angle as it could just be players showing support for their long-term teammate. Some of this information was reported yesterday on SI. Saban has been talking to somebody about the QB competition.

Doesn't really sound like something that would happen on a Saban coached team. That would be a first to the best of my knowledge

Gatorzone video of 8.15.14 practice scrimmage:
The passing game looks to be hugely improved. I did notice two sacks of Driskel. Kurt Roper can't be happy with those. He wants the ball out quickly to avoid sacks.
The backup QB battle will likely be decided by which QB does a better job of quick decision making, getting the ball out faster, and productivity. Whichever QB wins the backup QB role, the other will redshirt. Right now, most are leaning towards Treon Harris closely edging out Will Grier. Unlike Driskel and Brisett, I think we'll keep both QBs if Grier redshirts. He mentioned during recruiting that he'd like to redshirt his first season. Maybe that has since changed, but I've seen no comments to indicate a change of heart. Presuming Driskel comes back in 15, not a given if he has a great year, that'll give Harris 2 years to start and Grier 1 year to start. However, as we've seen at UF both pre and post Tim Tebow, the backup QB is an important player who gets plenty of playing time.

It was an Auburn fan making a comment on the article that inserted the racial concern. I didn't buy it anyway.

UF football and volleyball teams to hold Fan Day
Special to Gatorsports.com
Published: Friday, August 15, 2014 at 4:52 p.m.
Last Modified: Friday, August 15, 2014 at 4:52 p.m.
The Florida football and volleyball teams will hold Fan Day from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday at the O’Connell Center. Admission is free and gates will open at 2:30 p.m.
Gator fans will have the chance to get autographs from members of the football and volleyball teams, coach Will Muschamp, the volleyball coaching staff, cheerleaders and Gatorettes. The University Athletic Association will supply 2014 Gator football and volleyball team posters for coach and athlete autographs. The UAA cannot allow outside items to be brought in to the event because of NCAA compliance issues.
Due to the high demand for many of the autographs, the lines will be monitored and closed to ensure fans are not waiting with no chance of reaching the signing table by the event's conclusion.
In addition to the autograph session, the volleyball team will hold its annual Orange & Blue scrimmage from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The volleyball team will then sign autographs for fans from 5 to 6 p.m.

It appears that Brooks Abbott, the Virginia Tech transfer, has dropped out of the running for PK. This from Robbie Andreu of the G'ville Sun:
Velez, Hardin battling
Muschamp said Frankie Velez and Austin Hardin have moved ahead in the competition for the starting field goal kicker job.
“Austin Hardin and Frankie Velez have kind of distanced themselves at this point,” he said. “Those are two guys who have been pretty consistent. Frankie’s been really good. Austin has a little stronger leg, but Frankie hit one from over 50 I think yesterday or the day before. Both guys have been very consistent in camp.”
Velez was used last year for only short field goal attempts, but has improved his range, Muschamp said.
"Well, Frankie hit a 50-yarder the other day, so he's shown his range,” he said. “I think he's six of seven from 40-plus yards in team situations when it's 11-on-11, so that's good."

I LMAO when I read this - again from Robbie Andreu of the G'ville Sun:
‘Do I look big?’
Fowler was a witness to Joey Ivie trying to put on weight in the offseason when he was bulking up to make the move from end to defensive tackle.
“Joey is one of those types of guys who likes to look at himself,” said Fowler, who was Ivie’s roommate. “When he was gaining weight, he was like, ‘Do I look big or not?’ I was like, ‘I mean, you look pretty big.’ He was like, ‘So what are you saying? Am I small, am I big, am I skinny?’
“So I was like, ‘Joey, your butt is fat. You’ve got a fat butt.’ He was like, ‘Are you serious?’ I was like, ‘No, you are all right.’ Just being able for him to put on the weight, he’s carrying it really well. He’s still quick. He’s got that cat-like reflex. That helps him out a lot. Just to see how determined he is and just to see that he wants to get better, that’s great.”
Ivie, who figures to see extensive playing time this season, has gained about 15 pounds and is up to 288.

The Urban Eight - all are starters or contributors in this group:

This was a Gator birth that began with chaos, a time so volatile and strange it's still difficult to believe anyone in the Gator Nation went through it.
It's understandable that they feel as if they have been through a lot.
Because they have.
They all have a story or stories. Find them in 10 years sitting around a table of wings and beer and listen in. Should be fascinating.
Neiron Ball isn't supposed to be here.
It's a miracle he's anywhere. He missed a full season after a blood vessel ruptured in his brain.
“I would have never guessed I'd still be here,” Ball said.
Certainly, Andre Debose wasn't supposed to be here. The only students who spend six years at college are the ones who know the drop/add people by name and have their name on a mug at the Salty Dog.
Chaz Green almost wasn't here. When the news of Urban Meyer's first resignation broke, he decommitted. But here he is, getting ready for his fifth year.
They are part of the Urban Eight, the last eight players who were signed by the former head coach. You think the last four seasons have been tough on you? Try doing it in pads.
“It wasn't how we planned it coming in,” Green said.
Who could have?
The Urban Eight — Green, Debose, Ball, Mack Brown, Gideon Ajagbe, Quinton Dunbar, Michael Taylor and Leon Orr — are the only players still on the roster who were signed by Meyer and his staff. All but Debose were part of the No. 1 recruiting class of 2010, a class that stunned the so-called experts because of the drama surrounding the program.

The AP poll is out and, like the Coaches, the Gators are unranked. IMHO, both polls are crazy to have left UF out of the top 25. I'm feeling good about my 9-3 prediction. I'm considering raising that prediction to 10-2 prior to the start of the season.
