The AP poll is out and, like the Coaches, the Gators are unranked. IMHO, both polls are crazy to have left UF out of the top 25. I'm feeling good about my 9-3 prediction. I'm considering raising that prediction to 10-2 prior to the start of the season. To be honest, unranked is fine with me. No where to g but UP. I can't blame you for wanting to see it on the field. It's prudent. However, I've tracked all of the information for the team. The more that comes out, the more this team looks like a team that will compete for the SEC championship: 1. Jeff Driskel is not the negative many make him out to be. He's a natural for the new offense. 2. Our defense is going to be among the best in the nation. We are deep and talented at every defensive position. 3. The offense is coming on. OL depth is the only concern. Even at that, Muschamp says we have much better players on the O than in his previous three years. My gut feeling is the team is having fun with the new offense and we are going to have a scoring average in the low to mid 30s while we averaged 18.5 last season. 4. Special teams have a chance to be special. Both punters possess the ability to kick on Sundays in the future. KO return will be among the best in the nation with Andre Debose back for his 6th season. The two PK finalists have much improved their accuracy. Bottom line, the special teams will be special. 5. We came through the hardest part of fall practice with no serious injuries. Having a healthy team is a huge plus from last season. 6. The chemistry of this team is very good. The players genuinely like each other and hang out together. When the chemistry is this good, the door is open to a special season. 7. Finally, the team has a chip on its shoulder. They are chomping at the opportunity to get on the field and have a good season. The intensity and performance level is going to be extremely high.

lz, we play 3 scrimmage games including Kentucky before we get our first real test. I don't think there is any way to know what we have until at bama on 9/20. In the 90s, we never seemed to know what we had until we played Tennessee. The certainty is we'll be going to Tuscaloosa with a 3-0 record.
How we play at bama will set the bar for the rest of the season. If we play competitively win or lose, that will bode well for our season prospects. If we get taken out behind the woodshed again, that would be a bad indication of things to come.
My guess is the game will be close and competitive. Bama is in the middle of a budding QB controversy with Coker and Sims alternating practices with one as the starter and the other the backup. Whichever QB wins out, it will result in an inexperienced new starting QB. In addition, they are replacing 2 OL who moved on to the NFL. I'm in the minority, but I think UF has a chance to win the game even though I've predicted a loss.

The past few years, the offense has looked bad against really bad defenses, even in '12 when we won 11 games. We play 3 really bad defenses in the first 3 games, so that will be my first indication of improvement. If we score 40+ against them, it won't mean the offense is good, but it will be an improvement. At this point, I'll be happy with that.

Good article about Ahmad Fulwood and our WR corp. While true freshman CJ Worton wasn't mentioned, the news on him coming out of fall camp has been all good. He'll likely play this season. If he can make plays, let him play: www.gatorsports.com/article/20140818/ARTICLES/140819591/1136?Title=Confident-Fulwood-eyes-breakout-seasonOf late, Fulwood has opened the eyes of Florida coaches with his strong play. Florida offensive coordinator Kurt Roper said he would like to develop a rotation of six receivers this season. Fulwood is in the mix, with Quinton Dunbar, Demarcus Robinson, Andre Debose, Chris Thompson and Latroy Pittman. “We definitely have enough wideouts to produce a six-person rotation, an eight-person rotation could even be possible, I think,” Fulwood said. “We definitely have enough receivers for six. I feel like I'm definitely in the mix or if I'm not, I should be.”

It doesn't automatically mean you're going to suck....you are installing a brand new offense, but at the same time...if you struggle again, it will no doubt make the natives restless. I appreciate your optimism though. LOL Like I said...my heart is pulling for 0-12, but my head wants the Gators to be better so the end of the season whipping we lay on you will look better. At the same time though....would you really expect anything other than positive reports coming out of fall camp? I mean, do you expect Muschamp to come out and say, "Well, I don't think we're going to be very good this year...."

All UF had at this point last season was publically announced bad news in terms of injuries and illnesses. The news this season is night and day different. Even if UF wanted to go under the radar, it would be impossible to hide what we now know due to having conducted 8 open practices. While the Coaches and the AP pulled brain farts by not researching enough about the Gators to rank them, I don't think UF will be lucky enough to sneak up on anybody the way Auburn did last season. I guarantee Nick Saban won't be taking the Gators for granted going into the game on 9/20. Mentioning injuries, my next post will be on UF's true freshman DT Thomas Holley. He's having surgery and will miss the season. However, we've known this was likely since before fall practice started.

Monday August 18, 2014 Injury forces Gators freshman DT Thomas Holley to redshirt .
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Other than a bone bruise to the left knee of sophomore cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III, the Gators have had a relatively quiet camp in regard to injuries.
Considering the way 2013 went on the injury front, they deserved a reprieve from the injury bug.
Thomas Holley
However, Gators head coach Will Muschamp announced Monday that freshman defensive lineman Thomas Holley will miss the season and redshirt. Holley is scheduled to undergo surgery today to repair a hip labral tear that he suffered in high school.
“He had a sports hernia in high school. Had it repaired before he came here,’’ Muschamp said. “That’s where we thought his discomfort was. On the initial physical, we found a labral tear on his hip and impingement on his hip.
“He just had some discomfort in running and changing direction. Our medical people did an outstanding job of finding it. I’m disappointed for Thomas, a guy who certainly athletically we’re very excited about.”
Muschamp said the recovery process is expected to be about four months. Holley, like former Gators standout Dominique Easley, is a product of the New York City area. Holley led Lincoln High of Brooklyn to the PSAL championships a season ago in only his second season of football.
The 6-foot-3, 312-pound Holley first gained notoriety as a basketball recruit but opted to play football in college.
Meanwhile, Muschamp said offensive line Trenton Brown (foot contusion) sat Monday’s practice but should be back Tuesday, and that safety Marcus Maye (hamstring) and offensive lineman David Sharpe (ankle) are projected to return early next week.

At this point in fall camp last season, UF already had several season ending injuries to starters plus Jeff Driskel missed 2 1/2 weeks and Matt Jones missed all of fall camp. Jeff had an appendectomy the day before fall camp started. Matt had a viral infection that caused him to lose 20 lbs and he didn't return until the second game of the season. Matt played against Miami after practicing for one week while he was a shell of himself. To say the news was all bad in fall camp compared to this season is much closer to the truth than your position of being uninformed and calling bs. I guess at tOSU it's no big deal when your starting QB and starting RB misses part of or all of fall camp and several starters are lost for the season due to injury?

I don't like this much:
Nick de la Torre @nickdelatorregc Freshman RB Brandon Powell will wear No. 15 this season. Powell wore No. 20 in the spring and fall.
I think Tim Tebow should be in the ring of honor and his number retired.

It didn't mention what I disclosed to you about the illnesses of Jeff Driskel and Matt Jones. It also says 10 season ending injuries when there were 17. I'll see if I can find something that can clear that up. Yes, it continued throughout the season. I'm a big believer in man down and man up, but what happened made man down and man up useless to say. Keep in mind that UF was 4-1 before losing Jeff Driskel against UT, Dominique Easley during the week before LSU, and Matt Jones early against LSU. I hope the information is wrong on Braxton Miller. It doesn't look like tOSU has a reliable replacement.
