Doc Holliday - was on Urban Meyer's UF staff - recruits Florida very well - great job at Marshall Best name of the bunch. Haven't been paying close attention but why not Jim McElwain? Because Pat Dooley said so. Someone said McElwain has a large buyout, but I really don't know. It seems anyone worth having is going to have a large buyout. The two exceptions are probably Doc Holliday and Mark Hudspeth.

Thanks but it seems like he's been successful wherever and McElwain has worked the SEC area under Satan. Doc Holliday has a nice ring to it though.

Last series? Will didn't want to mess up Jimbo's playoff bid. It was some pretty stupid play calling with that much time left and 3 timeouts. Win or lose in the Iron Bowl, I'm watching the coach I'd like for UF. It's a shame it isn't likely to happen. Those long passes were bizarre, to say the least.

With a couple of minutes to go I was expecting them to roll him out and have a short to medium length option with the option to run as well. Treon is not a great pocket passer to begin with, much less throwing deep.

It was especially bizarre as UF hasn't thrown that many deep passes in any drive all year long. You're welcome Jimbo.

It was especially bizarre as UF hasn't thrown that many deep passes in any drive all year long. You're welcome Jimbo. Not sure you guys would have scored rolling out and throwing short to get down the field...but I agree there was no way you were going to beat us thrown down field with us having two deep safeties. It was a microcosm of UF for the past 5 years...defense plays good enough to win and offense can't do enough to get it done. I had a feeling that after only getting 9 points off of three picks on our own side of the field that we were going to win. The pick six made me feel better. Admittedly though...I got a bit nervous after the touchdown right before halftime. I'm happy we won. 5 turnovers and still besting a team like the Gators isn't the way I'd prefer we win. But...we won. We still haven't played our best football for 60 minutes. That's the good news. We STILL haven't played our best football for 60 minutes. That's also the bad news. Hold it together for one more game then we'll take our chances in the playoffs. Bama certainly looked beatable for 2 1/2 quarters and then unbeatable for the last 1 1/2... Sounds a lot like another team I know...

And based on the above and previous comments from the Committee members, that is enough to drop BAMA from #1 and put Baylor in that spot....I mean if it was good enough, and was their excuse for dropping FSU, dispite them winning their games, drop BAMA it show they are not biased.

Texas A&M and Auburn fired their DCs this weekend - Glad the openings are in the SEC West. Can you imagine facing Sumchamp or Malchamp every season. (shaking head)

Junior RB Matt Jones has joined juniors DE/Buck Dante Fowler and OG Tyler Moore in announcing they will be in the NFL draft. I think both Jones and Fowler will make it into the NFL.
From what I've seen of Tyler Moore at both OT and OG, he would be making a better decision to return and get his degree. Everybody that faces Moore turns into sack monsters on passing plays. He's a road grader for running teams. That is not what the NFL is looking for being a pass happy league.

Pat Dooley retracts his assessment that Jim McElwain isn't part of UF's coaching search:
Scratch that, put McElwain back on Florida's list of job candidates

So, back when I was eliminating potential candidates for the next Florida coaching job, I included one that seemed obvious. The buyout for the contract of Colorado State head coach Jim McElwain is $7.5 million and I know for a fact that Florida had no interest in paying that kind of money for a buyout. But contracts are meant to be read in their entirety and there is a clause about the buyout that leaves some wiggle room. Without delivering all the legal mumbo jumbo, it's negotiable. So if Florida really wants McElwain — and I'm certainly not saying he's the guy — it could play, say, a neutral site game against the Rams in Jerry World to cover the cost of the buyout. I guess what I'm trying to say is that McElwain is in the mix. The reports Florida has been seeking information on him are true because Florida has been seeking information on dozens of coaches. McElwain offers a lot. He's got the Nick Saban pedigree and was his offensive coordinator when the Tide returned to glory from 2008-10. He took Colorado State from 4-8 his first year to 10-2 this season. The Rams played against two Power Five teams this year and beat them both, even if it was Boston College and Colorado. And McElwain's offense averaged 35.9 points a game and finished seventh in the country in passing. That makes your ears perk up. Sorry if I misled you, but I wasn't the only one who thought he was crossed off because of the buyout.

Hugh Freeze Was Not Interviewed Or Offered By UF - That doesn't surprise me. I'd have been shocked had Freeze been our guy:
Dooleys Desk Freeze never met with UF or received offer Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 8:03 by Pat Dooley
Hugh Freeze has reached an agreement with Ole Miss on a contract that will pay him $4 million a year, according to reports.
That would put Freeze out of the running for the Florida job. The question is whether or not he was ever a serious contender.
There was no offer made to Freeze, despite numerous false reports that there was. Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley never met with Freeze and if you know anything about Foley, he has never made a hire in his life without sitting down with a coach and conducting an interview.
Freeze was one of a dozen or so coaches that Florida vetted. But Foley has been working in Gainesville since Sunday.
There was also a report of the UAA plane going to Destin so Foley could meet with super-agent Jimmy Sexton. The plane did make the trip, but Foley wasn’t on it.
Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork announced on his Twitter account: “Proud that we have @coachhughfreeze leading our program for a long time to come. Agreement is in place & future is bright!”
And this from Freeze’s Twitter account: “Very blessed to be at THE University of Miss & work for and with great people and fans! REBELNATION, say it with me, I AM AN OLE MISS REBEL”

Have plane, will travel - Jeremy's first stop is to Colorado State. My guess is the buyout can be worked out or Jeremy wouldn't be flying there. It could be that Jeremy will make other interview stops, but if it's being speculated an announcement could come as early as tonight, I wouldn't be surprised if Foley brings Jim McElwain back on the plane to Gainesville for the announcement:

Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley may be closing in on hiring the Gators’ next head football coach.
Foley flew to Fort Collins, Colo., on Tuesday afternoon to interview Colorado State head coach Jim McElwain, who has emerged as a leading candidate to replace Will Muschamp, a Sun source close to the situation has confirmed.
If the interview goes well, there could be an announcement coming soon, possibly even as early as tonight, the source said.
There have been numerous reports over the past two days that McElwain has emerged as Foley’s No. 1 target. Foley talked with McElwain over the phone Saturday night, according to the Denver Post.
Earlier Tuesday, McElwain was named the coach of the year in the Mountain West Conference.
In only his third year as a head coach, McElwain already is developing a reputation for being a program changer. That’s what he’s done at Colorado State in a short time.
When McElwain, 52, took over the Rams’ program in 2012, he inherited a team that was coming off three consecutive 3-9 season and was immersed in a culture of losing.
After going 4-8 in his first year, the Rams broke through in his second, going 8-6.
This season, McElwain and the Rams have been one of the biggest success stories in college football. Colorado State finished the regular season 10-2, including signature victories over state rival Colorado and Boston College, which beat Southern Cal earlier in the season.
McElwain came to Colorado State from Alabama, where he spent four seasons as the Tide’s highly successful offensive coordinator under Nick Saban.
McElwain helped the Tide win two national championships (2009, 2011) with a potent and balanced pro-style offense. He coached a Heisman Trophy winner (tailback Mark Ingram) in 2009 and a Heisman finalist (tailback Trent Richardson) in 2011.
During his four seasons in Tuscaloosa, in which the Tide went 48-6, McElwain’s offense turned the ball over fewer times than any team in the nation — 57 over that span.
In 2011, McElwain’s offense led the SEC in rushing (219.8 yards a game) and was second in total offense (433.4 yards a game).
Florida certainly knows first-hand about McElwain’s offense. In the Tide’s 32-13 victory over the Gators and Tim Tebow in the 2009 SEC Championship Game, the Tide rolled up 490 yards (251 rushing, 239 passing) against one of the nation’s strongest defenses.

It's not something Jeremy Foley would consider, but I would. I actually think he would be a good long-term hire: 1. He has an excellent offensive mind 2. The third time would be the charm 3. His wife, Layla, is a UF grad along with her father, former Gators QB John Reeves 4. Everybody would hate the success this SOB would bring to UF. That I like best of all Unfortunately, Jeremy Foley won't consider it: 1. When at UT, he called out Urban Meyer as a cheater and had to pay a fine when proven wrong 2. When at USC, he allowed a USC RB who both UF and USC recruited to lie that UF had contacted him when there was speculation of a transfer No, Jeremy Foley wants a higher character person. Will Muschamp wanted to interview him for OC when he hired Kurt Roper, but Foley wouldn't allow it. That tidbit came from insiders and was before bama hired him. I was just messing around, but from what I have seen (could be wrong, of course) Kiffin is in his wheelhouse as an OC. Somebody call my name?? ?
