Encouraging news on Jake McGee: www.palmbeachpost.com/news/s...tanding-out-in-early-drills-for-gators/nnFxX/GAINESVILLE — Early in fall drills, Florida tight end Jake McGee is earning high praise from Gator coaches. McGee transferred to UF from Virginia prior to last season, but suffered a season-ending broken tibia and fibula in his left leg in the season opener against Eastern Michigan. He was granted a sixth year of eligibility and he’s made an early impression on first-year head coach Jim McElwain. “He’s a guy that’s been really accepted by his teammates,” McElwain said after practice Thursday. “You could tell just the year he was here and what he went through and having him back is huge at that position.”

I wouldn't list Antonio Morrison or Thomas Holley on the depth chart. Neither are cleared to practice. There is a chance than neither player will play this season. I also think Anthony Harrell will show up at SLB and MLB before camp is over:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- GatorBait.net provides a projected depth chart based on how Florida has lined up in its first three practices of fall camp.
Note that this is not intended to be a perfect representation of the current depth chart in Florida's coaches' offices, but a projection based on our observations of where players are lining up, how the snaps are distributed and who has impressed most in practice.
Offense
QB -- Will Grier, Treon Harris, Joshua Grady RB -- Kelvin Taylor, Jordan Scarlett, Adam Lane, Mark Herndon, Jordan Cronkrite WR(X) -- Demarcus Robinson, C.J. Worton, Antonio Callaway WR(Y) -- Brandon Powell, Latroy Pittman, Valdez Showers, Alvin Bailey WR(Z) -- Ahmad Fulwood, Chris Thompson, Raph Andrades, Ryan Sousa, Kalif Jackson TE -- Jake McGee, DeAndre Goolsby, C'yontai Lewis, Camrin Knight, Moral Stephens LT -- Mason Halter, Martez Ivey, Kavaris Harkless LG -- Trip Thurman, Travaris Dorsey, Brandon Sandifer C -- Cameron Dillard, Tyler Jordan, T.J. McCoy RG -- Antonio Riles, Andrew Mike, Nick Buchanan, Richerd Desir-Jones RT -- David Sharpe, Fredrick Johnson
Defense
RUSH -- Alex McCalister, CeCe Jefferson, Jordan Sherit, Justus Reed DT -- Taven Bryan, Caleb Brantley, Thomas Holley, Luke Ancrum NT -- Joey Ivie, Khairi Clark, Andrew Ivie SDE -- Jonathan Bullard, Bryan Cox Jr., Jabari Zuniga WLB -- Alex Anzalone, Jarrad Davis, Daniel McMillian, Jeremi Powell MLB -- Antonio Morrison, Alex Anzalone SLB -- Alex Anzalone, Matt Rolin, Anthony Harrell, Rayshad Jackson CB -- Vernon Hargreaves III, Deiondre Porter, Chris Williamson NB -- Brian Poole, Quincy Wilson FS -- Keanu Neal, Duke Dawson, Nick Washington SS -- Marcus Maye, Marcell Harris, Kylan Johnson CB -- Jalen Tabor, Quincy Wilson
Special Teams
K -- Austin Hardin, Jorge Powell P -- Johnny Townsend, Austin Hardin KR -- Demarcus Robinson, Brandon Powell PR -- Vernon Hargreaves III, Brandon Powell
Note: Florida has practiced almost exclusively in nickel on defense, like it did in the spring. That leaves a third linebacker (strong side) off the field. Anzalone is a projected third starter there, with Davis likely to be on the field with Anzalone and Morrison in the event all three are healthy.

I emailed Scott Carter at Gatorzone inquiring about Anthony Harrell. I'll post what he says if he responds. This is his LBer article on 8/8 with mention of everyone except Harrell: www.gatorzone.com/story.php?id=31049Any discussion about Florida’s linebackers usually begins and ends with Morrison, a second-team All-SEC selection last season by the league’s coaches. At UF’s media day this week, McElwain singled out Morrison for his work over the spring and summer as he rehabilitated a knee injury suffered in the Birmingham Bowl that required two surgeries. “I can’t tell you what a great job he’s done to put himself in position to have an opportunity to play this season,’’ McElwain said. “He has had a huge impact as guys have seen how hard he has worked, what he has invested and what he was willing to do to define who he is and what he’s all about.” Morrison is participating in non-contact drills during preseason camp and appears to be moving comfortably. While there is no timetable for his return, the Gators are hopeful Morrison will return sooner than later. In Morrison’s absence, and with the loss of senior starters Michael Taylor and Neiron Ball from a season ago, the Gators are turning to a group of young players to make an impact and earn their place in the rotation before the season opener Sept. 5 against New Mexico State. “All those guys can play,’’ Morrison said. “They have made great strides.” Behind Morrison’s 19 career starts, the most experience linebacker on the team is junior Jarrad Davis, who has appeared in 19 games and started twice. Davis had 23 tackles in nine games last year before missing the final three games with a knee injury. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound Davis sat out spring practice recovering from knee surgery but looked good during Saturday’s practice, the third of preseason camp. “If I had done spring, I don’t know if I would have done so well because I was still feeling the effects,’’ Davis said. “But after spring, jumping into the weight program and getting back into it the whole way, I felt great.” Junior Alex Anzalone, after playing primarily on special teams as a freshman, played 12 games last season and finished with 14 tackles. He has the potential to start in 2015 as first-year linebackers coach Randy Shannon evaluates the group’s prospects with Morrison still slowed. Shannon said the Gators will explore multiple options. “We may have two middle linebackers that may be the best two guys on the field,” Shannon said. “We have to play them. It may be two outside linebackers who are the best guys. We may have three linebackers in the game who are all weak-side linebackers. Whoever the best guys are at that point in time, that’s who we’re going to have to play.” Davis understands Morrison’s value to the unit. He is not only the most seasoned player in the group, but also its vocal and emotional leader. Still, with Daniel McMillian, Matt Rolin, Jeremi Powell and freshman Rayshad Jackson getting quality reps, Davis is confident Florida’s linebackers won’t be a weak link in what is expected to be one of the country’s top defenses. “We all can play,’’ Davis said. “We saw that in the spring. They all stepped up. We know everybody can go out there on Saturday and put something in to help us.” A junior, McMillian played in six games a season ago and had his best game in Florida’s victory over East Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl with a career-high five tackles. Powell has primarily been a special-teams player but said he started camp at 224 pounds, the heaviest he has been in his four years at UF. Powell played in seven games as a redshirt sophomore while dealing with a lingering knee injury. He said he is healthy and ready to earn significant playing time. “Speed is my weapon,” he said. Powell credited Shannon with helping him develop a broader knowledge of the position. “I’ve tried to find out his coaching method and for him to find out the way I really play,’’ Powell said. “It made an easier transition for me to learn the defense faster.” And then there’s Rolin, one of the unluckiest Gators in recent memory. Rolin missed his freshman season due to an injury and finally healthy, suffered a season-ending knee injury in fall camp last year. Rolin, listed at 6-3, 216, returned to the field in the spring and made it through camp without the need of crutches. “It was not a good two years,’’ he said. “The spring was huge, one for my confidence, and to just to learn the playbook. It was huge for me to be able to trust my knee and just to get back out there for the first time in two and a half years. “Right now I’m feeling the best I’ve felt since high school.” The Gators’ only linebacker in the 2015 signing class is freshman Rayshad Jackson (6-0, 221) out of Norland High in Miami. Jackson has impressed his teammates thus far. “He’s got an SEC linebacker’s build,’’ defensive lineman Bryan Cox Jr. said. “I just think from the way he looks right now, and with coaching from Randy Shannon, the sky’s the limit.” Davis agrees that Jackson should not be overlooked because he is the newcomer in the group. “He’s got some real good natural ability and great instincts,’’ Davis said. “He has a knack to get to the ball. I really like watching him play out there.” As they wait on Morrison to return to full-speed, the door is wide open for the rest of Florida’s linebackers to say hello to more playing time.

Scott Carter's response to my email:
Hey Terry, thanks for your email and interest in the story.
Yes, failed to mention him in story. Need to update that. He is out there; haven't seen much of him in action and he slipped my mind. But an older guy who figures into rotation. ________________________________________ From: webadmin=gatorzone.com@gatornetwork.com [webadmin=gatorzone.com@gatornetwork.com] on behalf of webadmin@gatorzone.com [webadmin@gatorzone.com] Sent: Saturday, August 08, 2015 6:43 PM To: Scott Carter Subject: GatorZone Message (Scott Carter)
What about Anthony Harrell? Is he getting reps at any of the LB positions? With his size, I'd expect him to get reps at MLB in Morrison's absence and at SLB. Thanks for your response.
If Scott updates his story, I'll post the portion on Anthony Harrell.

Scott just updated this paragraph to include mention of Anthony Harrell:
Still, with Daniel McMillian, Matt Rolin, Jeremi Powell and freshman Rayshad Jackson getting quality reps, Davis is confident Florida’s linebackers won’t be a weak link in what is expected to be one of the country’s top defenses. In addition, former Georgia Tech linebacker Anthony Harrell, a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility remaining, is also in the mix for playing time.

I had forgotten about this kid having a problem with qualifying. He's qualified now and has been officially added to the team:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- As GatorBait.net reported was likely Saturday afternoon, Florida has added another piece to its 2015 roster, with defensive end signee Keivonnis Davis officially joining the team after failing to enroll earlier due to an academic snag.
The team announced the news on its Twitter account, late Saturday evening.
Davis has been cleared to play and will be with the team tonight and on the practice field on Sunday, the Gators announced.
A 6-foot-4, 227-pound defensive end from Miami Central, he'll add an extra body along the defensive line for Florida. Davis was rated as a three-star prospect by the 247Composite, an industry-generated recruiting ranking.
The only player from the 15 class not on campus is D'Anfernee McGriff who is in prep school and is hoping to enroll in January.

No, Grady is a graduate transfer QB from Vanderbilt. The only switch to WR is Brandon Powell who moved over from RB. I'd say he is a cross between Brandon James and Percy Harvin. He's a projected starter and he'll do really good outside with space.

Makes sense that he would just be a QB at Florida given the depth issues.

Just read Adam Lane is leaving the program. Any truth? Dang! I haven't heard that one. I'll check around. He got in trouble with Caleb Brantley when he walked away from a less than $20.00 bill at a bowling alley, but he was supposed to get deferred prosecution like Brantley. That's the last I've heard about him other than he has been at practice and is thought of as running behind Kelvin Taylor and Jordan Scarlett. That really wouldn't matter as he is slated for much increased PT this year.

There is no sugar coating this, UF is thin at RB: Kelvin Taylor/Jordan Scarlet/Jordan Cronkite/Mark Herndon. I think Valdez Showers will have to train at WR and RB:

Florida's once-promising running back rotation for 2015 is now a little thinner.
Redshirt sophomore Adam Lane is transferring from the football program, the school announced Sunday. Lane, from Winter Haven, won MVP honors in the Birmingham Bowl.
“Adam Lane has some family issues that he is dealing with and wants to be closer to home,” UF coach Jim McElwain said in a statement. “As you've heard me say many times family comes first in this program and we will grant him his release and we will do everything we can to help him.”
Lane, who has two young children, missed time in the spring due to family reasons.
At Florida football Media Day, Lane told The Sun he considered leaving UF last December but decided to stay after his breakout, 109-yard rushing performance in the bowl game in January. He rushed for just 72 yards during the regular season.
With his departure, UF will be counting even more on true freshmen tailbacks and U.S. Army All-Americans Jordan Cronkrite and Jordan Scarlett, who was already in line to receive playing time this year. The Gators also have veterans Kelvin Taylor and Mark Herndon returning at the position.
