Where is Lane going. UF is only a couple of hours away from Lakeland. USF is maybe a little over an hour. Same for UCF.

Hopefully Lane can get his shit together. Hopefully, he'll be wearing Depends wherever he lands. If he goes somewhere other than UCF or USF, the family emergency story is just a fabrication to cover for not working into the top 2 this year and last year. Time will tell.

I almost spewed my hot tea on my lap top when I saw this tweet from Jim McElwain from last night:
Jim McElwain ✔ @coachmcelwain
Had a great #SquadSunday with our football family, topped off by a good Practice #4. Gators got better today on and off the field.
It doesn't look like McElwain is too concerned about Adam Lane leaving the program posting that after granting Lane's release from the program earlier in the day.

I talked to a buddy in Auburndale just two nights ago, big Gator fan, who was excited to see the local kid playing for UF this year. Oh well.

Dang! These offensive players Muschamp brought in are soft. Travaris Dorsey RSFR OL and CJ Worton SO WR both left day 4 of practice with unspecified leg injuries. McElwain is funny when it comes to injuries - bad wheels and no idea when they'll be back.
After 4 practices, there has been no separation between Will Grier and Treon Harris. I don't expect there will be a decision made until game week, if then. New Mexico State won't challenge our offense so I don't think McElwain will make a decision until after the first game. East Carolina in week 2 is when I think McElwain will make the call. I think he would want to settle on his starter before going up to Kentucky.

I think East Carolina will give you a tussle.

I think East Carolina will give you a tussle. The Gators need a solid opponent before the start of SEC play. Injury Update: CJ Worton's MRI on his knee came back negative. There must not have been any swelling for the MRI to have been done on the same day as the injury. There hasn't been an update on Dorsey yet. It's still an unspecified leg injury.

1. It's clear McElwain's close to family excuse was a "shitter" of a story:
By Robbie Andreu Staff writer
Published: Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 3:27 p.m.
Two days after Florida coach Jim McElwain announced that tailback Adam Lane was leaving UF to be closer to home, the redshirt sophomore from Winter Haven is heading to Eastern Kentucky, the Lakeland Ledger reported Tuesday.
Lane received his release from UF over the weekend and will transfer to EKU, an FCS school that is in the Ohio Valley Conference. McElwain said the offensive MVP of the Birmingham Bowl was dealing with some family issues and wanted to be closer to home.
Lane’s departure leaves the Gators with only four scholarship tailbacks, two of them true freshmen -- Jordan Scarlett and Jordan Cronkrite.
2. Somebody on Gator Country said 4 to 6 weeks out for CJ Worton. At this point, I think it best to wait on official word as some folks post things they just don't know.
3. Still no further news on Travaris Dorsey.

QB Will Grier making push at Florida
David Ching, ESPN Staff Writer
Based upon reports out of Florida’s preseason camp, it sounds as if Will Grier is making a strong push to unseat Treon Harris as the Gators’ starting quarterback.
GatorBait.net’s Thomas Goldkamp was among the media members watching on Saturday, when Grier “stood head and shoulders above every quarterback on the field.”
Harris reportedly struggled with his accuracy, which was also a problem last season -- although the dual-threat quarterback still managed to lead the Gators to a 4-2 mark in his six starts. Nonetheless, he’ll have to put more throws on the money to hold off Grier, a former Parade Magazine national player of the year.
New Florida coach Jim McElwain likes to run a pro-style offense, and that system will require accuracy from his quarterback in order to function properly. Grier, who has bulked up to 215 pounds on a formerly wiry frame, possesses the passing skills to handle that requirement.
Maybe that makes Grier the frontrunner for the job, but Harris has a knack for moving the chains, somehow, some way. We can’t write him off completely yet.

I hope Mark Thompson sticks with his commitment:
Written by Andrew Spivey, August 12, 2015
Florida Gators running back commit Mark Thompson (6-2, 230, Dodge City, KS JUCO) is glad that it’s football season because that means he’s that much closer to reaching his goal of becoming a Florida Gators football player in January.
Thompson committed to Florida last spring and he still talks to the Gators a ton; mainly speaking to running backs coach Tim Skipper, who continues to recruit Thompson hard.
“I talk to Florida a good bit, I was actually on the phone with Coach Skip last night [Monday night],” Thompson said. “He just tells me the same stuff that me and Lamical [Perine] are the only backs they are recruiting and that they aren’t after anymore backs this year. Coach Skip also gives me advice about stuff off the field and on the field as well when I ask him for it.”
Skipper has been making sure that Thompson is in touch with the current team as the JUCO running back commit has been getting updates on how the current Gators are doing.
“He’s been telling that the team is looking really good this year and that they have a couple of freshmen starting on the offensive line so they will have a year of experience under their belt for when I get there,” he said of Skipper’s message about the team. “I’ve been hearing that Will Grier is looking good and that the defense is good. Florida always has a stacked defense.”
Since fall camp is going on for the Florida Gators, Thompson hasn’t talked to head coach Jim McElwain as much, but McElwain makes sure to keep the running back in sync on the class of 2016.
“I haven’t really talked to Coach McElwain much besides the small talk about how my family is doing and that stuff,” Thompson said. “We haven’t really talked much about football except when they get a recruit, he always tells me who they got and stuff like that. I know he has a lot on his plate so I try not to bother him a lot.”
Thompson is doing a lot of recruiting for Florida in the class of 2016 but he talks to a current Florida Gators running back the most out of everyone.
“I talk a lot to Jordan Scarlett from the team now,” he said of whom he talks too. “There really isn’t much advice I can give to Jordan, because he already has his head on straight and he’s been playing the position a long time. I know he’s going to be good and he will hold it down. Hopefully when I get there we can be a 1-2 punch for the Gators.”
Last month Thompson made news by saying he was planning on taking all five of his official visits this fall, but now those plans seemed to have changed some.
“With those five visits, I’m really not sure because I feel one way about them one day and then another thing the next day,” Thompson said of his plans. “Ever since I released those visits, I haven’t been felling them because I’m a Florida boy and I really don’t have any interest in any other school. There is really no point in taking the visits because I know where I want to go and where I’m going. So don’t be surprised if I don’t any visits except for November 28th when Florida takes on the Noles at home.”
INSIDERS TAKE: Mark Thompson loves Florida and running backs coach Tim Skipper and I don’t see any way that Thompson doesn’t sign with the Gators in December. Right now I lean towards Thompson not taking any other visits except for his one to Florida on November 28th.
