The piggies run much better than they pass which isn't a good thing with this UF defense:
2013 OVERALL FBS RANKINGS
PASSING YARDS

RUSHING YARDS
237.0 21st Overall
FAYETTEVILLE - The University of Arkansas football team continued game week preparation on Tuesday for its upcoming SEC road game against Florida.
Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jim Chaney met with the media after practice and discussed the importance of this weeks practices.
"Our whole team better lock it in, and lock it in now," Coach Chaney said. "This battle won't be fought on Saturday. This battle should be fought today, tomorrow and Thursday. It's going to be a hard fought one for 60 minutes on Saturday and that is how both of the organizations want to play the game of football. So we are hoping we can go represent our side of that philosophy."
Coach Chaney talked about the progress of the offense thus far in the season.
"I think we played better offensively last Saturday," Coach Chaney said. "I believe we need to continue to learn to strain for 60 minutes. I feel like we have played the last couple games through three quarters well, but haven't been able to finish those games as we would like to. So to say that we have improved, I would say yes, from the Rutgers game to Texas A&M. I felt that our energy level was higher and that we made fewer mental mistakes. Now with that said, with that same incremental jump we made last week, we are going to have to two-fold that to be able to have success this upcoming Saturday."

SHADES OF WILBER MARSHALL
We have yet to see that Wilber Marshall breakout game against Southern Cal in 1982 or that Alex Brown meet Mr. Martin game in 1999, but Dante Fowler is starting to show that same kind of disruptive presence. He had two big plays to dominate the first quarter of the Tennessee game and two sacks plus plenty of pressure against Kentucky. You can make a case that Fowler overmatched Kentucky, but against Tennessee he was going against Ja’Wuan James, a 6-6, 325-pound specimen who is expected to be one of the early offensive line selections when the NFL drafts next May. After forcing two fumbles in the first quarter against UT, Fowler was doubled up the rest of the game and you could make a case that he was also held on every play although the SEC zebra crew conveniently overlooked holding. He needs to get used to the double teams because he will see them the rest of the year. They used to double up on Wilber and Alex Brown, too. They adjusted and dominated. If Fowler can make the adjustment, he’ll dominate, too.

History has this strange habit of repeating itself at Florida. Take the Heisman Trophy for instance. Florida’s three Heisman winners – Steve Spurrier, Danny Wuerffel and Tim Tebow – were all the sons of preachers. Maybe it’s a stretch, but Cam Newton, who was part of Florida’s recruiting class of 2007 and the 2010 Heisman Trophy at Auburn (transferred from UF in 2008) is another son of a preacher turned Heisman winner.
When it comes to recruiting, history also has this way of repeating itself at Florida. The backbones of three national championship teams were part of the third recruiting classes by three different coaches – the recruiting class of 1992 by Steve Spurrier that was the core of the 1996 national title team; the recruiting class of 2004 by Ron Zook although he wasn’t around to experience the 2006 national title; and the recruiting class of 2007 by Urban Meyer.
If history is the true indicator of things to come, then big things are in store for Will Muschamp and the Florida Gators in the next couple of years. Muschamp’s class of 2013 was his third, his second consecutive consensus top five group that included USAToday first team All-America cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III and second team USAToday All-America running back Kelvin Taylor, son of Fred Taylor, who was a star running back on Florida’s 1996 national championship team. Although Hargreaves is the only freshman from 2013 currently drawing rave reviews through the first four games of the season, wide receivers Demarcus Robinson and Ahmad Fullwood are on the field regularly and Taylor, Alex Anzalone (LB), Keanu Neal (S), Chris Thompson (WR) and Daniel McMillan (LB) are starting to earn time.
It is too early to predict, but if history holds true, the recruiting class of 2013 has championships in its future.
Here is a look back at the recruiting classes of 1992, 2004 and 2007 and how they contributed to three national championship teams:
RECRUITING CLASS OF 1992
ALL-AMERICANS (first, second or third team): * Jack Jackson (WR); ** Danny Wuerffel (QB); *** Lawrence Wright (S); Donnie Young; Jeff Mitchell; Anthone Lott
* All-America in 1994, left for the NFL 1994
** First team All-America, 1995-96, Heisman Trophy 1996
*** 1996 Jim Thorpe Award
ALL-SEC: Jack Jackson, Wuerffel, Wright, Young, Mitchell, Lott, James Bates
OTHER QUALITY STARTERS: Tremayne Allen (TE); Cameron Davis (DE); Bart Edmiston (PK); Jerome Evans (FB); Demetric Jackson (S); Shea Showers (CB)
FINAL ANALYSIS: This is a group that produced one Heisman Trophy winner (Wuerffel), six All-Americans, seven All-SEC selections and another six quality starters. With the exception of Jack Jackson, a first team All-America selection in 1994 who left for the NFL (first round pick, Chicago Bears), the bulk of the class took a redshirt in 1992 then became part of four straight SEC championships and was the 1995 national runner-up before taking the tile over Florida State, 52-20, in the Sugar Bowl in 1996.
Any recruiting class with 13 quality contributors is special, but this one won more championships than any class in Florida history.
RECRUITING CLASS OF 2004
ALL-AMERICANS: Brandon Siler (LB)
ALL-SEC: * Siler (LB); Drew Miller (C/G); ** Derrick Harvey (DE); Phil Trautwein (OT); Cornelius Ingram (TE)
* Left for NFL, 2006.
** Left for NFL, 2007
OTHER QUALITY STARTERS: Tate Casey (TE); Kyle Jackson (S); Tony Joiner (S); Eric Rutledge (FB); Jim Tartt (OG); Jason Watkins (OT)
FINAL ANALYSIS: Ron Zook (fired after the seventh game in 2004) wasn’t around when this group had a big hand in Florida’s 2006 national championship team, but the Zooker’s fingerprints were all over that title. Zook followed up a 2003 recruiting class that included Chris Leak and Earl Everett with a 2004 class that produced 10 starters in the 2006 national championship game. The only All-American in the group was Brandon Siler, the heart and soul of that nasty defense that held Ohio State to 82 total yards in the 41-14 title game blowout. The class produced five All-SEC performers, the defensive MVP of the championship game (Harvey) and six other quality starters including three of the starters on the offensive line. Trautwein started at left tackle in both the 2006 and 2008 national title games.
RECRUITING CLASS OF 2007
ALL-AMERICANS: * Maurkice Pouncey (G/C); Mike Pouncey (DT/G/C); Ahmad Black (S); Joe Haden (CB); ** Aaron Hernandez (TE); *** Carlos Dunlap (DE); *** Chas Henry (P); **** Cam Newton (QB)
* Left for NFL, 2009; Rimington Award winner 2009
** Left for NFL, 2009; Mackey Award 2009
*** Left for NFL, 2009
**** Ray Guy Award, 2010
***** Transferred to juco after 2008; All-America/Heisman Trophy at Auburn 2010
ALL-SEC: Maurkice Pouncey (G/C); Mike Pouncey (DT/G/C); Black, Dunlap (DE); Haden (CB); Hernandez (TE); Chas Henry (P); Chris Rainey (RB); Major Wright (S); * Newton (QB).
* Transferred to juco after 2008; All-America/Heisman Trophy at Auburn 2010
OTHER QUALITY STARTERS: John Brantley (QB); Brandon Hicks (LB); Jaye Howard (DT); Deonte Thompson (WR); Justin Trattou (DE); James Wilson (OG)
FINAL ANALYSIS: Any class that produces eight All-Americans – even if one of them transferred to juco and became a Heisman winner at another school – and nine All-SEC selections is something special. The class produced four major award winners – Newton (Heisman); Maurkice Pouncey (Rimington); Hernandez (Mackey); and Henry (Guy) – and six others who became quality starters during their UF careers. Nine of the 2007 class started in the national championship win over Oklahoma and the only consecutive 13-win seasons in UF history. Maurkice Pouncey started at guard as a true freshman then started at center in 2008-09. Twin brother Mike Pouncey started at defensive tackle as a freshman, right guard as a sophomore and junior, and center as a senior in 2010. Pouncey, Hernandez, Haden, Dunlap and Major Wright all left early for the NFL following the 2009 season.

Despite being hit hard and often by injuries this season, including losing their starting quarterback and best defensive player for the year, the Gators have managed to win three of four games and continue to play at a high level.
This likely would not have been possible in Will Muschamp’s first season, the Florida coach said Wednesday.
“We’ve got a man down, man up situation here at Florida,” Muschamp said on the SEC coaches’ teleconference. “When you sign to come play here, you expect to compete for and win championships. We don’t make excuses about injuries and things.
“We’ve recruited well. We’re a far cry from where we were two years ago, I can assure you of that. We would not have been able to withstand some of these injuries we have now.
“We’ve recruited well. We have depth on our roster. When guys go down, we expect our competition level to stay the same.”

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — The New York Jets have signed David Nelson, a former University of Florida standout, to add depth to a banged-up receiving corps.
Nelson played with Buffalo from 2010-12 and caught 94 passes for 1,042 yards and eight touchdowns. He signed with Cleveland in the offseason but was among the Browns’ final cuts before the regular season. The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Nelson’s best season came in 2011, when he had 61 receptions for 658 yards and five touchdowns.

He's a Kansas State legacy, his dad played for K St, and Kansas State gets his last official visit. Duh:
Kansas tight end got “red carpet treatment” Written byAndrew Spivey, October 2, 2013, 0 Comments,

Home Recruiting Kansas tight end got “red carpet treatment”
Print Friendly
On his second trip to Gainesville, an official visit the weekend of Florida’s 31-17 Southeastern Conference win over Tennessee, Deandre Goolsby (6-4, 225, Derby, KS) brought his father along for what turned out to be an exceptional visit both for Goolsby and his dad.
“Deandre and his dad went to Florida for his official,” Heather Goolsby (Deandre’s mom) said. “I went this summer so I got the chance to visit Florida and the coaching staff. His father went this time to meet everyone and experience everything. It was a great visit they both really enjoyed themselves. They gave them the red carpet treatment.”
It is an 18-hour drive from Kansas to Gainesville, but according to Mrs. Goolsby, the Florida coaching staff has made them feel comfortable about the distance.
“We really like the coaching staff at Florida,” Mrs. Goolsby said. “Florida calls us and Deandre on a regular basis and keeps in good contact with us. We have a really good relationship with them and we know that they will take care of him if that’s where he chooses to go. Football and school are both demanding so we need them to take care of him since we won’t be there for him.”
Derby, Kansas is in the heart of Big 12 Conference territory so typically it’s hard for Florida to get a lot of interest from prospects in that area but for Deandre it was a pleasure to have an offer from Florida.
“Deandre has always loved the state of Florida itself,” Mrs. Goolsby said. “Every time we went on vacation it was to Florida if we asked Deandre. We’ve been in the state several times. The university is amazing and it was beautiful. When Florida came calling he knew instantly he wanted to take a visit there. His visits there have been great and he loves it there.”
Goolsby’s father played football at Kansas State, which would appear to be an obstacle, but Heather Goolsby says this decision will be strictly what’s best for Deandre.
“His dad played at Kansas State but Deandre is going to make the best decision for himself,” Mrs. Goolsby said. “Deandre has a drive about himself and he studies everyone and wants to find the best place that will teach him and coach him to make him better.”
With three official visits down the Goolsby family will next head to Arkansas for their game against South Carolina and take the final official to Kansas State.
Goolsby will graduate in December and enroll in college in January, which means that the recruiting process has been sped up.
“As soon as we are done with the officials he will make his decision because there is a lot to do to get enrolled in school,” Goolsby said. “He will process his thoughts and make the best decision for himself.”

If, like coaches say, third down is the money down, then opposing offenses are living below the poverty level this season thanks to Florida's suffocating defense.
The Gators are stingy when it comes to third down.
Of all the impressive defensive stats the Gators have been piling up this season, the one that jumps off the page is their success on third down. Opponents are converting third downs a mere 17.8 percent of the time (eight-of-45 attempts), which leads the nation.
“Even last year, that was our big thing, get off the field on third down,” senior cornerback/safety Jaylen Watkins said. “Get off the field on third down, punt and get the offense back on the field. Three-and-outs. You wear out their defense because their defense is consistently on the field. Third-down defense plays a lot into our scheme and our success."
Defensive end/outside linebacker Dante Fowler Jr. said getting third-down stops, especially three-and-outs, are “gold time.”
“We emphasize that a lot, because that's basically the down you get off the field,” Fowler said. “Three-and-outs, third downs — that's gold time. The defensive line pins their ears back and the secondary gets ready so we can get off the field and get our offense back on the field. That's like putting up points for us."
Florida's defense has been strong in all areas this season. The Gators lead the SEC in an astounding eight statistical categories, including scoring defense, total defense, rushing defense and pass defense. But it's UF's success on third down that sticks out, and may have the biggest impact on the Gators' overall efficiency.

Commit of the week: DE Justus Reed - Plus Others
by Zach Abolverdi
Reed traveled about a half away from his future stomping grounds Friday.
Ocala Trinity Catholic played host to he and his Clearwater Central Catholic teammates, and they left with a 38-14 victory. It was their third consecutive win and brought their record to 4-1.
Reed registered eight tackles, one sack and two quarterback hurries in the game. On the year, he now has 31 tackles and a team-high five sacks.
Here are some other UF pledges who performed well last week:
QB Will Grier, Davidson (N.C.) Day: His team defeated Waxhaw Marvin Ridge 45-0, and the Army All-American completed 44-of-56 passes for 407 yards and a season-high seven touchdowns. He also ran for 130 yards on 10 carries. Grier will visit UF this weekend for the Arkansas game.
CB J.C. Jackson, Immokalee: Jackson put up 298 all-purpose yards in a 35-14 win over Naples Golf Coast. Most of his production came in the passing game, as he hauled in five receptions for 219 yards and three touchdowns.
QB Quincy Wilson, Fort Lauderdale University School: Wilson made his third interception of the season to help the Suns shutout Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson, 50-0.

There's the reason besides home field why UF is favored by 10 1/2 by Vegas. UF has a more talented roster and good depth.

JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without safety Dwight Lowery against Indianapolis on Sunday, leaving them with two rookies in the back end.
The Jaguars (0-3) will go with Johnathan Cyprien, a second-round draft pick, and sixth-rounder Josh Evans against the Colts (2-1). Evans replaced Lowery (concussion) on the second play at Seattle, and the duo was torched.

I hate to "rain" on anyone's parade, but there might be some rain on UF come Saturday. I'm referencing the possibility that later tonight or sometime tomorrow, that blob of lousy weather in the northwestern Caribbean (and in the vicinity of the Yucatan and the west end of Cuba) may turn into a tropical storm. And from where it's located now, the tracking software takes it generally up the middle of the Gulf and then has it veering to the northeast over the Florida panhandle (or even in the general area of Gainesville). The local weather on tv tonight indicated a timeline of around 8am Saturday for it to be situated in the general vicinity of the panhandle (or possibly a bit further west) and heading northeasterly due to a cold front that will force it more to the east. Here is where it's at right now: www.nhc.noaa.gov/ I am hopeful that the pile of lousy weather will somehow find a way to fall apart and not go anywhere, but there's the very real possibility that it will be a wet game in Gainesville. For that matter, the game between HalfAssU and the Turtles will be played in Joke Shambles, so that could likely be a very wet affair too. Anyway, here's hoping that dadblamed storm stays away and drops a bunch of rain over the Gulf. - David ( rain, rain, go away ) PwrMc
