We were listening to the game on the road heading home from Miami. I was just amazed that game was in doubt in the 4th quarter, but I think what really shocked me, other than the loss itself obviously, was the 4th and 1 play on Southerns last possession. UF needed a stop, get the ball back and kick a field goal and they win. Instead Southern feeds the fullback on the dive and he not only busts the LOS for the first down but he hits the second level and runs for about 50 yards. With the team speed UF has in the secondary and linebackers how in the hell does a big, rambling fullback run for 50 yards? I had no clue how that game was progressing, so when they announced the final score at the shoe, there was a combo gasp/cheer. I immediately looked down at Meyer... He didn't change his expression but he looked up at the scoreboard after the announcement, so even during a game he noticed. Shocker. Mark Scott Tosu 81 Sure, it's bad that they got beat (Any given Saturday), but it's ATROCIOUS that in the HISTORY of the Gators they have never got beat by an FSC team is VERY VERY bad.....MusChump better look over his shoulder...The winds of change be a blowin.....

I have seen postings where some people are suggesting Kerwin Bell as the new Offensive Coordinator. Kerwin (of "Throwin' Mayoan" fame) is currently the head coach at a small college called Jacksonville University. He has only walk-ons (no scholarship) so far as I'm aware and has his offense putting up huge numbers with very little to work with. True...it's small college level, but I would think that his offense could translate to the bigger leagues. Here's a short synopsis: www.judolphins.com/football/coaches/Kerwin played at UF and he knows what bigtime college football is about. In the situation that UF is currently in, he might be worth a chance.....that is, if Muschamp can get out of the way and stop insisting on his brand of football which is plodding, boring, low point scoring and no room for error football. The play I always associate with Kerwin was his last-minute win over a Pat Dye-coached Auburn team: I was at that game....one of the most exciting I've ever seen. - David ( we need to put some excitement back into the game ) PwrMc

Great memories. I wasn't there but was listening to it. I mentioned Kerwin to replace Pease a few weeks ago, he's always been one of my favorite Gators. But I would be very surprised if it happened.

Was it Kerwin who later played for Spurrier with the Tampa Bay Bandits or Wayne Peace. I can't remember.

John Reaves played for the Bandits for sure but I don't remember Peace at all. Bell definitely didn't.

Bandit Ball was a lot of fun, mainly because of Spurrier. Heck, the whole league was a lot of fun but as a kid growing up in the Tampa area when the USFL was around, it was a lot better option than the hapless Schmucs and boring NFL.

I had a buddy, who is a Bull Gator, who had season tickets to the Bandits and I went to a couple of game with him. The games were fun as Steve ran his all out passing offense and Reeves was perfect for it. The worst was getting into and out of the old stadium. One of my greatest nights ever, we went, I drove, and parked in the old shopping center parking lot across the street. Buddy had one of those italian sausage sandwiches and when we were in traffic trying to get out about one o'clock in the morning that sandwich kicked in and he went into epigastric distress. We couldn't get out of traffic to find a gas station or Micky Dees for him to use a rest room so he was rolling and suffering and farting, which, being the sadistic bastard I am, made me start laughing. The more I laughed the more he farted and cussed. Thank God for the T tops on that old 280Z. Finally made it out of traffic and up onto I4 and got close to a station and his pain passed and he said he was fine. As soon as we passed the old 75 cutoff it started up again and back in those days there was nothing from Tampa to Plant City. So I have that 280Z pegged. I think the speedometer at that time topped at 88 or so and I had it buried, laughing and him cussing all the way to Plant City. He scared some kid in the bathroom there too. It was hilarious.
